    I just bought mine awaiting clay to get started. I found this video when looking how to add batt pins

    I also got this wheel. The back shelf proportions are disappointing, so I will build an extension shelf for it. The speed is great, but does bog down like you showed, it recovers quickly when the friction reduces.. we threw about 6lbs, centered with 2 3lb chunks. I will use this primarily for smaller work and it’s great for trimming. Bat pins are an easy addition. For the price it can do a lot of work and lowers the barrier of entry into the craft.

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I like the idea of adding an extension shelf. I bet this would be perfect for trimming! I'm glad these cheaper wheels are an option for people.

    I like that you tested the wheel with 5# -- seems to be a good indicator of function. Certainly these inexpensive wheels don't quite measure up to pro wheels, but considering they're about a tenth the cost, it's a viable option for many people. Thanks for the review!

      You are very welcome and thank you for your comment. It has been fun testing these. They certainly aren't on the same level as the expensive wheels but seem to be good for beginners or some light use cases if you can deal with some minor flaws.

    I have the 11" version of this wheel. I did drill bat pin holes in mine and I'm totally glad I did. Just make sure you get really short bat pins or else they will hit against the splash pan.

    • @expertclay
      @expertclay  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good advice. The wheel head is pretty thin so they don't need to be very long at all.

    I put a cement mixing bucket under mine. Fits perfect and catches the dips

    With the new version you could maybe make longer legs out of pvc just drill holes to lock in

    • @expertclay
      @expertclay  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a great idea. I like having mine on wheels but PVC should hold as long as they aren't too long and you aren't using a lot of weight.

    Bought this same wheel last month because it had a lot of good reviews. Unfortunately, the wheel head is off-centered and wobbling. VEVOR's customer service is the worst I have ever encountered. Their website says 30-day no-hassle returns, but getting a new wheel has been the biggest hassle ever! Their first reply was for me to wait 3 weeks for a repair kit so that I could fix it myself. We've gone back and forth several times and each time they refuse to let me return the wheel - they keep upping the incentive to keep it. So far they're giving me $125 to keep it. Does anyone know how to fix it? I have no idea and now I'm stuck with an off-centered pottery wheel.

      I’m at $56.40 right now w them. They sent me a 220V plug machine so I can’t plug it in and m the US. What ended up happening w your situation?

      Mine is the same. I’m on my third vevor wheel and they all wobbled. I’d like tips on correcting as well

  • @nicksims2827
    @nicksims2827 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I bet the smaller size is to cut down on shipping costs.
    I’m thinking about buying one and setting the motor into a larger table with more room on top and longer legs. I reckon as long as I keep to smaller pieces it’ll do me perfectly

    • @expertclay
      @expertclay  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That sounds like a great idea. I would love to see a finished photo of that setup.

  • @jdchmiel

    I have the old version. It would be interesting to see if the pulley is much smaller on the new version, making it faster but with less torque, or if the speed difference is from an improvement in electronics

    I found the surface of the wheel to be so rough my hand is bleeding. Do you have any recommendations for that issue? Haven't heard back from Vevor yet...

    • @expertclay
      @expertclay  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, I wasn't a fan of the rough surface. I tried a throwing cloth which I found on amazon but it didn't quite keep the clay in one place. I have another video that shows how to add bat pins so you can use a bat. You may be able to throw a slab of clay and stick a bat to that. Those are the only ideas I've come up with so far.

    I bet you could make longer legs out of chain link fence posts. The tubing looks about the right size.

      I may be able to try that. I will be taking some fence out of my yard in the near future.

    if it's short - why not prop it up on a platform or risers? Seems like a relatively simply solution.

    3 pin power connector going into the board is a dumb idea. Water could easily get into the unit and short it out. Much better with the older model where the cord is sealed into the board.

    • @expertclay
      @expertclay  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, they probably should have at least made it connect underneath. I'm sure it was a cost saving idea. I wonder if there is a way to seal it or put some kind of shield around it to keep the water out.

    Anyone have a problem with them sending a wheel that doesn’t plug into 110V in United States? They sent me a 180V wheel w a 220V plug. They are not replacing it but telling me to get a transformer. WtHeck. :(

    • @expertclay
      @expertclay  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Didn't have anything like that happen with the three that I bought. Did you get it through Amazon? It definitely seems shady!

    • @katiakatiakat
      @katiakatiakat 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I got it through Vevor. Corresponding from china. Slow response. They’re telling me I need to buy a voltage converter and offering me $56.40 to keep the machine. I saw another person post w a different issue and they offered her $125 to keep the machine. So strange!

    • @expertclay
      @expertclay  ปีที่แล้ว

      My splash pans are a little loose. They can spin around the wheel head if you grab them and turn them. But they seem to stay in one spot when throwing.

      Yes. I ended up using some molding material to hold it and keep it from flooding through the inside.

    A friend has one. Pedal is shit. Something electric got busted after 1 week. She fixed it but it just moves very slow now. My whell; Wobbeling wheel, broke buttons and missing screws, very hard to send back. Dont pay untill you know its good. I stopped my payment and sendt it back. Took me about 25mails in two weeks untill I got the returnadress...I refused to pay returncosts to france. Found it on Amazon, looked like a swedish store.
    Never again.

    Your clay is a litle to hard i think .Also it should be better for the wheel that is a litle weak.
