Modern readings are so Toxic. The myths tell of the _Perfect, the Sublime, the Most Beautiful_ elements of Life. Every thing that sounds "tragic", "violent", "dishonorable" or "lamentable" is supposed to _Catch your Attention_ and BEG to be Reconciled with the idea of Perfection in the story.
ie: Goddess of Love "punishes" Psyche: When a Greek Goddess gives _ANYONE_ troubles, they are _Doing the Work of giving these characters their ONLY chance to Become IMMORTALS -- Heroes or Gods._
This includes Hera. Who is _NOT_ "jealous" of Zeus. She CAN'T be. They are the Divine Lovers. So...reconcile the dissonance.
    THAT'S how you read Mythology.

We are ALL, man and woman, begged to wed Psyche by this myth.
The Gods aren't _People,_ they are Transcendent "beings" we can only imagine as "concepts" and only understand through philosophy and only "see" in our lives through Mythology.
