I worked in the City Arms in the mid 80's, met my husband there and we ended up emigrating to Canada. Seeing all these pubs bring back great memories. Also my parents met in the Rose & Crown just after my dad got demobbed circa 1948.

My friend and I worked in Collingdon Road not far from the city centre in 1980. On a Friday when we got paid, we would have a few beers in town. We may have crossed paths at some point. Thanks for your comment. 👍

The Goat Major was what The Bluebell became, circa 1986.

A few of these are still there, refurbished and renamed but still there. My old local, The Vulcan, has been moved to an architectural museum!

The Vulcan was taken down brick by brick and rebuilt at St Fagans National Museum of Welsh History, it reopened this year on the 11th May 2024, and yes you can still buy a pint 🍺

Would have been useful to include where the pubs stood and year of photo, otherwise good vid.

Some great old pubs - used to love the Glendower, Glastonbury Arms and Salutation.

I remember many, but not all of these! Perhaps now I could go on a visit to all of them, if so many had not been closed by....(you know, and I don't mean economic forces!!!)

I think I only went in that pub once and that would have been around 1980.

After watching this I also clicked on your link card to "Old Cardiff Pubs" and that appeared to be the same pubs. Couldn't quite get that.
However, this video was interesting. I very rarely used the pubs in Cardiff itself, preferring the rural pubs in St. Mellons or Castleton where there was less sawdust on the floor and served good food too. I do remember many of the pubs shown, although many are now closed or demolished. I used to pass the Heath every day on my way to school.
My nearest pub in Cardiff was the Claude Hotel (not shown) but I only went in there a couple of times- can't think why as it wasn't very good.
Probably sacrilege to say so, but I wasn't keen on Brains Beers- I preferred Hancocks.
