    Great explanation. What is the difference between the Black C or L vs the beautyrest winward luxury firm sold by Mattress Firm? Thanks!

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Lyle. Our written review has a good breakdown of the differences between the C and the L-class mattresses: www.goodbed.com/reviews/beautyrest-black-mattress-preview/
      As for the model from Mattress Firm, that would be a Mattress Firm exclusive. The stores offer 'exclusives' like this so that it's harder for you to compare models and check pricing from apples to apples. Since the Windward model has a layer of micro-coils, we'd guess that it might be somewhat similar to the Beautyrest K-Class mattresses, which also have some micro-coils.
      Hope that helps!

    Thanks for this helpful video! I have a ~2005 Beautyrest Black Kate Luxury Firm Pillowtop - what’s the closest equivalent in the latest naming scheme?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jack. Thanks for the comment.
      It's really not worth it to try to guess at a comparable -- I can guarantee you that your mattress today feels much different than when it was brand new 15 years ago. All mattresses soften up over time, and because it happens gradually, your body simply adapts. So if you had brand new Kate Luxury Firm and compared it to your current one, it would feel quite different.
      So instead, we would recommend heading to our quiz and starting fresh -- you can limit your search to Beautyrest if you want to stick to that brand. Answer a few questions and we can match you against each bed's attributes. Start the quiz here: www.goodbed.com/mattress-finder/quiz/
      I wish we could say "the XXX is the current version of the Kate Luxury Firm" but unfortunately it isn't that simple - Beautyrest is now using entirely different materials and construction.

    Great great explanation of these mattresses!! Thank you for what you do. My question is, when it comes to the K class, can the plush version be suitable for a bigger sleeper, say 300 pounds, or are the coils not suitable for that? Is a bigger person forced to get the firm version? And is either version made to withstand the 300 pound plus person? Thank you!

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi there -- Thanks for your question (and your kind words). I would encourage you to get one of the models with the firmer coil configuration. I do think that the twisted cable T3 coils in the Black collection are capable of providing good support for someone of your weight, but I don't think you'd want anything less than the firm version of those coils. Note that if you want a little bit of softness, there are "Luxury Firm" models and perhaps even pillow-top models that still use the firmer coils. Just be sure to check with the store to make sure that the model you choose uses the firmer coils.
      I hope that's helpful.

    Can you tell me if the Beautyrest imperial Gavin V from sleep country is the same as a beautyrest black? I wasn't able to find much information online

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there -- I'm afraid it's nearly impossible for us to say. That's because the Gavin is a model made exclusively by Beautyrest for Sleep Country, so it may not exactly correspond to any of the Beautyrest models available elsewhere. The difference could be as small as the design of the cover, or could be more extensive, like different foams or coil units than used in other models. We call this the "name game."
      My best guess is that it's closer to the Beautyrest Silver line. Though as you note, there's sparse information on the Sleep Country site about that model. The Gavin you are looking at is 12.5" tall, which is shorter than any of the Black and most of the Silver mattresses. This could indicate that it might have less comfort foams on top of the coil unit. But there's no way to be absolutely sure based on the info available to us.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Emanuel.
      I think what you're looking at is an older Beautyrest Black model, so our video from 2017 is more appropriate for you: th-cam.com/video/nogMc2d6W3E/w-d-xo.html
      You may have also found some kind of 'exclusive' version at a store -- maybe Mattress Firm? These big stores often contract with manufacturers to change the cover and names of mattresses so they can call them "exclusive" to the store. But based on what you've said, it looks like that model may be most similar to one of the 2017 Beautyrest Black models, possibly the "Mariella Luxury Firm" model we discuss in the video at 6:05 th-cam.com/video/nogMc2d6W3E/w-d-xo.html

    @GoodBed Thank you for this video. I've been trying to match a Simmons Back Guard mattress that we love at a B&B. Who knows how old it is, but it's still in good shape and we sleep well there. Can you recommend the best match for two thin people, both under 130 lbs, with shoulder, hip and back pain from our "much too firm mattress now that we're over 60" bodies? I took the survey, but we live in a rural area and not many stores to choose from to try anything out. Thank you!

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there. I'm not sure what would be comparable to that Simmons model (I don't recognize the model), but in Beautyrest, you have several collections. Anything with "hybrid" in the name will have the most memory foam (not sure if what you tried included memory foam) -- so that means the Beautyrest Hybrid and Beautyrest Black Hybrid collections. The other collections also have spring support unit, but not much memory foam. As you go up in price, you typically get more types of comfort foams, more cooling features, and taller mattress heights.
      Since you are both lighter in weight, you'll probably want to look at a soft/plush model (at your weight, a Medium may feel too firm). So if you want to head to a store, you'll at least be armed with some knowledge about which collections have which features. If you want that memory feel, ask to look at the Hybrid or Hybrid Black models.
      Hope that helps!

    Hello. Could you please let me know what replaced the Simmons Beautyrest Supreme 16?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jaime. Thanks for the question. In the past there have been thousands of different names used for Beautyrest mattresses each year and that one was not one that was particularly popular so we don't have enough information about it to map it to any of today's models.
      Like virtually all of the traditional brands, Beautyrest overhauls their mattress lineups every 2 years or so, which means that it's unlikely that the construction of anything in today's Beautyrest line will bear more than a passing resemblance to that model.
      Sorry I don't have more info for you!

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Alexander. Thanks for the question. The biggest difference between those are the additional cooling features on the Black L-series. The BRS-900c models have a moisture wicking cover, but the Black L-series have actual phase-change material. Beautyrest says this keeps the L-class mattress 2 degrees cooler for up to 30 minutes. And there are additional cooling features as well.
      If you are not a person that's overly concerned about sleeping hot, then spending the extra money for the cooling features in the L-series might not be worth it.
      Hope that's helpful!

      Hi Paul. Thanks for the question. It's normal for a store mattress to feel softer -- who knows how long they've been on the sales floor and how many people have tried them. So first, I'd contact your retailer. We have heard that some will give you a topper or an exchange, but it really varies by the retailer. Also you might give the mattress some time -- most say 30 days is what it takes for your body to get used to your mattress and vice versa.

      Hi Robert. That model is an exclusive to Mattress Firm, so it doesn't correspond directly to the rest of the Beautyrest Black line. Well, I wish we had the answer for that. One tip is to wait for the holiday sales. While the big brands used to never offer discounts, Beautyrest has been. We have several pages that gather all of the holiday deals. The next big mattress-shopping holiday is Memorial Day -- here's a look at last year's deals: www.goodbed.com/guides/best-memorial-day-mattress-sales/
      You'll see that Beautyrest was offering $100 off several mattress collections. That's something! Check back closer to Memorial Day for our updated page.
      Another idea is to negotiate with your retailer. While you might not get a huge discount, you might get a foundation, sheets, or other extras thrown in. Good luck!

One likely reason they're taking things a bit slow is to give their retail partners, who have generated all the sales for this brand since its inception nearly 100 years ago, a chance to get comfortable with Beautyrest's efforts in this regard. My expectation though is that over time their online offerings will certainly broaden and that they will eventually include most or all of their products.
      I hope that's helpful.

      Hi there -- Thanks for your question. The best approach is to look at the page on their website that describes the mattress you bought and compare its features to the ones we describe in this video. The feature set of your mattress should line up against one of the levels, as we describe them here. Bear in mind though that prices have gone up across the entire industry since the prices we quoted in this video. I hope that's helpful.

      Hi there -- Thanks for your question. This line would actually be a pretty good choice for heavier people, due to the strength of the T3 coil system. That said, my one concern would be with some of the lower density foams used on top of these coils, so if a heavier person were to buy a mattress from this line I'd encourage them to a) make sure to get one with the firmer coils (in the video, we explain that Beautyrest offers two variations of their coil system -- Firm and Plush), and get one with less foam on top (eg, L-Class).
      If sticking within those constraints leaves you with a feel that you don't find optimal then I'd recommend looking at some of the other mattresses we specifically highlight as being the best options for heavier people, which includes a wider range of feels.

    What's the difference between the black K class and the Black hybrid plus mattress from mattress firm?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Asher. The mattresses in the Beautyrest Hybrid line are the company's memory foam mattresses, so they are going to have a lot more of that slow, sinking into the bed feeling compared to the mattresses in the Beautyrest Black, Platinum or Silver lines. All of the current Beautyrest beds use a pocketed coil support unit, and many have at least a little memory foam, but only the Beautyrest Hybrid collection has that slow memory feel.

    Need help finding a mattress. I like it soft while the wife likes it firm. I used to like sleeping sideways, but our current mattress wouldn't have it. I added a topper, but the wife claimed that it gave her neck/back pain. Definitely want the bed to be on the cooler side as I tend to heat up. Also, from the descriptions the classes are just for more added comfort, so would K be our best bet? Additionally, the prices I saw for the Beautyrest Black K-Class seem to be more than what was quoted, but I guess the mark up is to be expected.

    I'm a little confused, the cheapest (L class) line has diamond, silver and silk infused cooling features but the more expensive models have graphite infused cooling features. Seems backwards. I find it hard to believe that Beautyrest is really infusing these materials into their mattresses. Please produce a video from Beautyrest or the foam supplier demonstrating this part of the manufacturing process. Sounds more like marketing jargon.
    Looks like your video takes place at a mattress store, does it, or does goodbed have a studio and purchased all of those Beautyrest matresses for review?
    Any negative features to any of the mattresses you reviewed in the video?
    Your video seems more like a commercial than an actual review. I watched another video reviewing the Beautyrest BLACK line and it looks like they filmed it in the exact studio you filmed yours.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Patrick -- Thanks for your question. One important thing to clarify is that as we state in the description of this video, this is an *not* a review. Rather, it's a product line overview, the purpose being to explain the key features that all of these models have in common and what features get added as you step up to the more expensive models in the line, and to translate that information into plain English without embellishment or hyperbole. I am aware that most of what passes for a mattress review on TH-cam doesn't even meet this standard, however I am very confident that if you watch one of our actual reviews, you will very clearly see the difference in terms of how in-depth we go in a review. 😊
      In terms of the components you mentioned, I do understand that diamonds and silver sound much higher end than graphite. The broader context there is that graphite, while certainly less fancy, is an excellent conductor. And like most consumer products companies, Beautyrest tends to introduce its newest features and advancements at the top of its line-up, and then add them to lower-priced products over time as even newer technologies become available. Since silver and diamonds are not as recent to Beautyrest as graphite, they are now found in some of the lower-priced models in the line. In terms of the plausibility of this premise, make no mistake that these are not little princess cut diamonds being removed from engagement rings and infused into the mattress -- if anything, it's tiny diamond particles that are the byproduct of industrial diamond manufacturing and have few other practical applications. As for the effectiveness of these features, that was not something we endeavored to assess in this particular video, which is another distinction between an overview and a review. Rather, we simply explain in clear terms what the manufacturer is claiming these features will do. In most cases, we do believe there is at least some veracity to these claims, however the extent of their effectiveness can vary widely, and is something we assess more in-depth in our reviews.
      With regards to the location, this was filmed in a place where we could have access to the entire product line in one location. Very few retailers, if any, carry every model in a given product line, and given the aforementioned purpose, it was important to have them all in one place to show and compare them.
      Thanks again for your comment, and I hope that's helpful.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there -- Thanks for your comment. Not weird at all actually! Plenty of people like to think of their mattress as a warm, cozy place. And there are many more people for whom sleeping hot is not really an issue, so they are just looking for a nice neutral sleeping environment.
      Also keep in mind that in some cases, the need for cooling features in today's mattresses comes from the use of materials that can trap heat but have other important features and benefits. For example, high-density memory foam is an excellent material for pressure-relief and has a feel that many people find extremely comfortable. However, the byproduct of these benefits is that this type of foam tends to have less airflow than other materials. Adding cooling features is a way to offset that drawback. So in some cases, the cooling features aren't necessarily making the mattress feel cold, but rather may just be bringing the mattress back to a more neutral sleeping surface from a temperature standpoint -- while also delivering other benefits (such as added pressure relief and comfort, in the case of my example above) that a more traditional mattress design might not be able to offer.
      I hope that's helpful.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Connie -- Thanks for your question. If you're asking whether any animal parts or products are used in this mattress, the answer is that I think there are some natural fibers used in these mattresses -- eg, silk, wool, etc. But those would be a very small percentage of the overall mattress, especially by weight. And of course, those fibers don't require killing any animals either if that's part of the root of your question.

      Hi Dan -- Thanks for your comment. Beautyrest Black is at the very high end of the Beautyrest line-up, so you are certainly right that they are more expensive than most mattresses.
      In terms of whether a mattress over $1,000 is worth it, this will of course come down to how much you can afford, how specific your requirements are, and how much you value having a mattress that meets all of these requirements. To use another example, as someone who prefers beer to wine, I feel like anything over $20 for a bottle of wine is a rip-off -- but at the same time, I can also appreciate that for people with more money and/or a greater appreciation of wine, this would not be the case.
