I feared the worst when Team Coco was bought up by SiriusXM but glad to see SiriusXM actually investing in Conan. Hope SiriusXM will give them even more funds to do more things. As long as they can retain their comedic independence, I'm all for it.
The deal was pretty much everything he should’ve gotten for the tonight show. Gobs of money, a huge payout for the licensing of the brand, and the multi billion dollar backing of Sirius XM who know how much conan himself can generate. Tours, merch, exclusives, etc. This will become at least a billion dollar deal, I’m sure.
We really just need a Chill Chums podcast to be honest, no celebrities or fluff, just fun conversations between friends. I literally have every episode of "Summer S'mores" saved to my phone at all times, it's just that comforting and funny.
I skip about half of the celebrity interviews now. Some of them just ramble on way too much or have a hard time being in a podcast setting so i just watch the beginnings and ends of those episodes.
I think the idea is that Conan Needs and Friend maybe a few others will remain free and that will be the entry point to advertise his paid shows. Which he already does with the scripted podcasts they do, for sale on Luninary. Which... I guess people are willing to pay for goofy stories and bad character voices with goofy sound effects like old school radio plays? I listened to a few espisodes of Dana Carvey's show and was bored to tears. Hes hilarious in an interview but not a great content creator... Which is why his TV show had a million writers. 🤷 Dave Chappells Midnight Miracle is the only "podcast" Ive considered paying for just because the free episodes are amazing, but being of the generation who had free radio, free broadcast TV, and for a few years free internet service... I cant wrap my head around paying for the radio. 🤷
The CONAF podcast will change in the way that new episodes will premier on the SiriusXM channel with a timed exclusive window and then will be available elsewhere. As well as Conan making exclusive content for the channel
All we need are podcasters sapping up more of the resources from the already over extended record industry pressing boatloads of crap and keeping independent artists away from a format that had genuinely been such a big part of that economy
