I have a juvenile albino nelson milk snake that has been doing great. I’ve been all over the internet for other people’s opinions on how to care for them and this is the best one by far.
Good information. I think most people need more instruction on how best to monitor temperatures. A dimmer is a good idea but an inexpensive programmable thermostat is even better.
Good to know. My inkbird thermostats have done well for me but I do have them on a dimmer too so if they failed then there is still a max temp that they could not exceed.
I have a thermostat but when i have it set to let’s say 79 it seems a little cooler above the bedding. i want to turn it up but he loves to burrow so i don’t want to burn him against the glass.
They're so pretty! Definitely need to add a Honduran to my collection. Great video as always! The only thing I might disagree with to some degree is moving to feed. It's just not all that necessary. And sometimes people mistake advice of moving to feed as an okay time to handle, but you really shouldn't be handling after your snake has eaten.
As usual, THANK YOU!!! I have a serious fear of snakes, because of this, I am seriously considering a milk. NOT familiar enough so. Not going to do it. However our beardie is being a temperamental butt!! Still not wanting to eat (however I do know it is really cold here in the South)
What about heat loss through the glass or plastic, if it is a tub? I have my heat mat at 35 degrees celcius underneath my tub and the temperature on top of the substrate is only about 27 degrees. How do I get it to around 30 degrees inside, without the heat mat becoming really hot?
Good information. Personally I think every reptile benefits off having UV, including milk snakes as they would naturally get UV while roaming out in the wild!. Your statement regarding them getting more colourful is one of many reasons that prove that they benefit from it.
I have a 36x18x18" exoterra for my honduran. Do you think she would benefit more from a 48x24x12" or 48x24x16"? I know they can get up to 6ft long, so I want her to live out her life comfortably and also be able to explore. She's only a year and a half old now, so she's still young, but growing fast.
i have a 4 months old sinaloan milksnake, and i handle him quite a lot, because he never seems stressed or scared. the problem is that when i handle him he is always very adventurous and tries to check everything out. it's allmost like he is too eager to slither away, so my question is if this is a sign that he doesn't wanna be handled? or just a sign of being curious
hey! i found a milk snake in the middle of the road, hes very small probably the girth of a small pencil and probably about 10" long. i put him in a 30 gallon tank with some dirt and crab grass but now i dont think i should use dirt. hes been in it now for about 4 hours before that he was in a small container for like 10 hours before i could get him this. i put 3 ok sized crickets in his tank with him as im not sure when he has eaten last. Ive never owned a snake before, any tips would be helpful. also his tongue seems to hang out of the side of his mouth quite often. he can still do the sssssss thing but im not sure hes okay/healthy. anyway please get back to me!! thanks!!! im hoping he eats a cricket. my local petsmart didnt have any pinkies tonight aso i bought 4 crickets
I got a question about the calcium, do I put calcium on the food everytime I feed my bearded dragon or do I put calcium on it like 2 to 3 times a week, or 5 times a week
I’m looking to buy a captive bred Sinaloan milk snake with a normal pattern, is it difficult to find this and do you have any breeders you would reccomend?
I’m having troubles with my new baby milk snake from pet supplies. Really wish I would have got from a breeder! He was new at the store day I got him so no records of last time ate… it’s been two weeks hasn’t ate iv tried twice. Braining and leaving in enclosure and iv tried taking it out and put I. Separate enclosure as well with just a hide and snake and pinkie.. frozen thawed from freezer to fridge to hot water with pinkie in bang
Recently "rescued" a young Albino Nelson's milksnake that came into my work covered in mites, so badly we thought he had lost an eye. The main concern now that ive taken him home after 6 days at my workplace, is he isnt that finnicky. He doesnt strike out when picked up to be handled(I've made sure he has no more mites on him before taking him home, although he's my only reptile so far), nor seems in that big of a hurry to yeet himself out of my hands like most milks, kings, and corns have at his size/age. Should I assume he's either still in pain to move much, or is he just an oddly calm milk snake?
hey man....In all my 30 something years keeping and breeding reptiles, i never kept milk snakes, other than size, would you say the honduran makes a better pet than a pueblan.............as far as biting itself, musking, biting ppl and all that?
In my opinion there all about the same. Whether Pueblan, or sinaloan, Nelsoni, or Hondurenisis, they are all spastic a-holes when babies, but grow into very calm and impressive as adults. Other than Florida kings, these are the hardiest species that we work with.
Because milksnakes are so tiny when there young. You can use the exo terra Large faunarium that's perfect for baby's. Put a heat pad with thermostat under it on one side. And put in some reptibark(you can spray this substrate to), a hide or 2, and a climbing stick and some fake leaves. And bam you're done. Then when they become bigger you buy a beautiful big terra, and make it very beautiful for your milksnake. Edit; finally someone agrees that taken out the animal 5days a week (so not for 48hours afther eating) is a good thing. My grandson does it and his cal king is very tame. He even enjoys it to explore outside his cage. And he has already enrichment in his terra. Like climbing things and so on.
Warning regarding freedom: Do not let your snake on the floor free. My baby milk snake is in a very small crevice between the wall and a countertop that is otherwise fused to the wall. This happened because I was watching my snake explore between the carpeting and the bottom of the counter (there was no space between the counter and the floor) the snake suddenly went *up* into a small hole between the wall and that counter. I tried enticing it with a mouse, leaving the used bag on the floor hoping they'd come down for it, I tried spraying water into the crack, I even sprayed herbal insect repellent. I hope they aren't stuck. If there is a TINY dark hole of no return, your milk snake will go in! Herp responsibly. I recommend treadmilling the snake on your hands instead of letting it slither.
I just got a baby milk snake rhe other day, as i was going to put it in the enclosure, i tried to show him off to my roommate. He got away so freaking fast. I KNOW better, not my first snake. But i got complacent. It took me almost an hour to find the little guy, even knowing the area he was in. It was a learning experience and hes good to go happy and healthy. But yes definitely be careful always

@hoodiewithoodie me too! Lol
I have a juvenile albino nelson’s milk snake too! Found him hiding on a construction site I was working on, and now he’s my buddy.
Oh my goodness... this video... is so well edited...
Always had red tails ball pythons, etc. Bought my granddaughter her first California King Snake last Saturday. What a beautiful critter!!
Very nice
Thanks for kindly explain with detail. This video is helpful!
Magnificent Milk Snakes you shown in this video
We appreciate it!!
recommend me your youtube over the phone and did not disappoint, super informative video !

Great point! But I have seen them fail far more often that the dimmers, which is why we recommended them.

awesome video!! i’m debating getting a nelson and this video is so helpful!!!
Very very informative video!
Glad you think so!
I've been thinking about getting one and this was helpful to know what to do. thank you
Well done video. I feel confident to start with a Honduran.
Thank you.

I love all milk snake species
You guys rock
If u just use the baskinglamp from top does it heat all night? or do u use heatmat all day and baskinglamp at daytime?
I bought my kingsnake from you at the reptile show in Salt Lake City today!
Wasn’t us.
We weren’t in Salt Lake City

@@ColdBloodCreations we got her from a pet store here in town. And it was not the ole "PS" place. Didn't want to mention it by name.
trust me there’s nun you fear. i own one never even been struck at or anything

I’m just wondering how do you setup/care for a pueblan milk snake?
im curious can you use pine shavings for substrate for milks?
Yes. If it is Kiln dried you can.

Great video, what or where do you get your cypress mulch? Any brand from Lowes that you recommend?
Usually get it at Home Depot. I don't use the "blend" but try to find the regular Cypress.
I’m looking into getting a ghost morph milk, should I use UVB or stay away since the white pigmentation?
SNakes don't need UVB. We have a ghost that we will be posting soon on our site.
I meant to say but what about the pueblan milk snake
Thank you 🌻❤️
Of course! :) Thanks for watching.
Is that a milk snake on the cover? If so what type? It’s very pretty. 🥰

So I am about to buy a Ghost Honduran Milk snake. Will I get that hide box with it automatically? or do I have to request it?
The hides can be bought separately, but we can ship them for free with your snake.

I went to Walmart and got shelving linner and just put it on the outside of my cage on 3 sides. So it looks like wood.

How long do you recommend keeping the snake out of the enclosure for?
This is great but im gona buy a beardi :3
Respect. Lol you like what you like!
what size tank should i get for a Honduran Milk Snake?
We recommend at least 20, but a nicely decorated 40 would be pretty cool. I love naturalistic vivariums...
@@ColdBloodCreations wouldn't a 4 by 2 by 2 be better?
@@ColdBloodCreations i didn't realize how big a 40 g was
If your snake regurgitates it can also be due to engagement/playtime right after eating
Omg the snake in the back 😂
How much melon is too much in a snake?
