Interesting to know she was the inspiration for Betty Boop, and that's why she got the part originally. Her reprising the role for "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" was a wonderful last performance from her, she sounded like she hadn't aged a day. She was also great as Olive Oyl, Popeye's dame, and did a surprisingly decent job standing in for the man himself in a few cartoons. Not to mention her great performance as Sweet Pea.

Amazing, i never thought the VA of betty boop could have such an incredible range that she could voice popeye, such an iconic voice that generations can recognize it.

It's great that they had her do the voices in the video game ad and Roger Rabbit. It's always sad when legends can't get work because they hire an impersonator. Also, loved her in National Lampoon Christmas! I love to see older people who still have their sense of humor!

Except for the woman singing the theme song at the beginning, Jack Mercer did ALL of the voices in the made-for-TV Felix the Cat cartoons from the late 1950's-Felix, the Professor, Rock Bottom, Poindexter and the Master Cylinder, plus any incidental voices. And there are Popeye cartoons in which Jack Mercer did all of the voices, like "Ration fer the Duration".
My favorite Steve Blum non-anime roles were always Wolverine, Starscream from Transformers Prime, and of course Heatblast, Ghostfreak and Vilgax from the original Ben 10 series.
I always forget she actually did Popeye for just one short or so while Jack Mercer was off serving in WWII, I have to wonder if they slowed her voice down a little for that because it's insanely spot-on.

Kaplan told about how kids could participate in the adventures of Winky Dink by buying a screen and pasting it on the television, and drawing things on the screen to help Winky Dink whenever it was necessary. But as Kaplan said, "The trouble was nobody bought a screen, everyone just drew right on the television. My father would come home and say 'G**damn "Winky Dink" on again!' One time, I used a crayon that wouldn't come off at all. I knew I was going to get it, so I just drew on every show. I watched 'My Little Margie,' drew big t*ts on Mrs. Odetts."

Jack was serving in WWII at the time. Mae only voiced him in the short, Shape Ahoy. She did do an good job filling in.
