Its stock suspension is considered too soft by Chinese users, especially against side swings (e.g. when exactly one wheel runs over a pothole). But there is a suspension modification offered in China (~400 USD equivalent). I don't know whether the models coming to Australia come with the upgraded suspension.
Excellent review. Yesterday in Cork I took this car for a test drive. The impressions were positive. Convenient comfortable fit. The suspension does not break down on speed bumps. It lacks power. It is very quiet in the car. I noticed that the hood of the car in the front in the area of the headlights protrudes on the sides by 5 millimeters. I have not noticed this on other cars. The smooth and even transition of the lines is lost. This should not be. I think that the manufacturer installed a hood from other models. I have a desire to buy this car.
Great overview , Pressure now back on Toyota and Honda and Kia and say VW to drop prices @ €44k in Ireland for BYD Seal U with every conceivable extra included - competitors are €10k more expensive for less features 💶
Very good review! With rented Hybrid Camry and RAV4 Hybrids here in Australia I reckon on a country drive they do about 6l/100km. But with the Toyotas the ICE engine cuts in at a very low speed. So you only really get the electric experience in low speed, heavy traffic.
Toyota's hybrids are unfortunate predominantly ICE without any plugin capacity. Toyota's hybrids perform best in minimal stop starts when there's enough distance between stops to glide in EV and regen before a red light. But in the real world in traffic, that small 1kWh-2kWh hybrid batteries that use only 40-80% of capacity would barely last us 5 minutes crawling.
Hi, thanks for the review, do you know perhaps what the max towing capacity will be? That is the only reason for me not to go for full electric because I need to be able to tow a 1500kg caravan. Many thanks!
Do you think you would get it up and down to Cork and still maintain that 5.4L/100kms Dave?? If the Irish Gov would let business's claim back the VAT on Petrol (and they could make the distinction that it would only be with PHEV's and not pure ICE petrol vehicles)........that could be a fantastic repmobile.
it's possible for hybrid, BYD's DM-i tends to keep engine running in the most consumption efficient speed, the car mostly uses electric motor, the engine is for generating electricity and it only kicks in when you need extra power or when battery is empty.
Suspect it’ll be getting above 6 litres, maybe even 7 on a journey like that. Depends on speed and driving style too. Will put it to the test when it arrives in Ireland.
If you want the result for 100KM that will be 1.2L/100KM. You will only see more than 5L/100KM if you exceeded over 1100KM in one full charge battery. This is a PHEV meaning you can plug in and charge your car's battery. And enable you to use pure EV mode up to 80-100KM depending on your driving behaviour. Base on this model they claimed one full charge and full tank can drive over 1000KM. So question is.. how often do regular people drive more than 100KM per day? Most regular people dont drive over 100KM per day so than mean you can just drive pure EV mode everyday and your fuel tank still remains full unless you forgot to charge your vehicle overnight.
@@dann5515 I drive on average 3 - 400kms a day. There are a few days in my working month that I do close on 600kms. Diesel is still my optimal choice......but in Ireland.....we will be taxed out of Diesels in the coming years.
Looks like an insurmountable BYD lead. This thing is the same price of a Tesla Model 3 in Portugal. No range anxiety, 3 years of maintenance, and a 6 warranty. Everyone else is done with the exception of Toyota.
What we all wanted.....another generic "SUV" (i.e. Stupid Upright Vehicle)🙄. These Chinese cars are the Ladas of the 21st century. These Chinese cars will follow Lada into the unlamented memory of motorists.

Such a nice car. Love the BYD Blade battery and quality, Wish it can come to Australia to drive down cost of living crisis.
On sale now.. orders being taken
It has. Sealion 6.
Is already released in Australia for order. Australian version is called BYD Sealion 6 PHEV
soft suspension, light steering... that's what most city drivers like to have..... no bone crushing thumps over potholes and speed humps
Very true

Nah...EU will slap a 40% tariffs on all Chinese car.
It will only hurt EU in long run. People want affordable cars not old expensive junk

This makes me laugh at Audi
Nice review Thanks Mate
It is coming to Australia with a different name . SeaLion6 .
Lucky Aussies. Unlucky Americans because of old dinosaur politics.
Same in Thailand. The new BYD factory is making them there.
Yes BYD price it cheaply and this will be a best seller
Strong standard spec levels too.
Todo SUV da BYD tem a mesma traseira. Porque não fazer um SUV cupê híbrido?
here in NZ, the Sealion 6 Premium 4WD is priced NZ$64,990 around 32k GBP or US $ 40k
Aud $52k for the top model AWD
if anything, it could be at least a competitive product that probably make car price lower
Absolutely
the car looks really great😮😮
O carro parece o Song Plus com uma cara nova. Mudem a traseira. Todos os SUV da marca tem a mesma aparência. Tragam um SUV cupê híbrido
How long does it run in EV mode only ?

We'll know this coming Monday when pricing is announced.

What about petrol motor power?

Did you say 100kms in 5.4 litres ?
Their website mentions 100kms in 1.4 litres for this model.
