Most incredible technical breakdown since I repaired an effluent pipe with two broken choir boys whilst in Nanaimo - one of the three shot's at he end was a little right of centre, but that will happen if you use square resources - "Who Dares Win's" Trigger
Awesome review! Thanks for taking the time to share it! Would love a followup review later on to see how you're doing with it. I've been on the fence with getting either the full sized Independence or this new bullpup. There just aren't a lot of reviews on either models. So every review I can come across is a big help! :) I live in Hawaii, so there aren't really any airgun shops (that stocks high end airguns) where I can hold and test one out before buying.
(Google is finally allowing me to reply. lol) Thanks for the feedback. I will post any updates on the gun in the description of the video. I had what turned out to be a relatively minor issue with the trigger and lever (2 separate issues) that were both related to FX either not using threadlock or using it sparingly. The trigger adjusting rod rotated due to a thin application of blue threadlock to the point the trigger wouldn't release the sear. I fixed that quickly and easily. Then the two screws under the cheek piece loosened (NO threadlock) and allowed the cocking piston to move freely back and forth and disabling the ability to feed pellets. That has been threadlocked (BLUE- don't use RED) and working great since then. I wasn't happy that this gun, made from the Royale design in the thousands had an issue like this come up. AOA knew exactly what the problem was and says that FX doesn't threadlock those screws. All I can say is... "Why not?!" I'm glad I wasn't in the field without the right size allen wrench when this happened . I hope other Bobcat users will learn from this but I'm a happy camper again and having a love affair with this gun. Shaka bra! ;)
excellent video my man. we are or was on the same exact quest of finding a proper prepper gun. ive watched every single pcp video on yt over the last 3ish weeks n just today found out about the independent n then very soon the bobcat here. ill be looking into your other videos to see what u got. keep up utalizing the description of the video most people neglect it all together. thanks
Congratulations on that beautiful rifle. I slowly putting aside a few buck away to get one of these. I was also waiting for more reviews, so I thank you for your presentation. As you said in your video its Ideal for those of us who want a top quality PCP rifle but dont want to spend all the additional stuff to fill the rifle. thanks
Thanks for the positive feedback. Ted has done a great job on his videos and showed that he got an Indy Bobcat but hadn't posted a review on it yet. Once I decided to get this gun, I also decided that I was going to do a video to fill that gap. Glad you appreciated it, Ranger!
Great gun, I'm 53 and also into the air guns. Really into it actually. Love your Gem! I can't get one just yet, so I made a couple DIY Bull pups. Just to help out with the anxiety, till I get one ;)Yeah Bobcat is tits up really. It makes you feel like a kid again, it is a wonderful hobby at our age.
It sure is a great sport/hobby. I can still remember shooting my cousin's pump Crosman BB gun with iron sights when I was about 9. Of course, that was the "good ole days" when all that is plastic today on those guns was solid wood. It was such a thrill, although I still feel bad about shooting at a bird about 100 feet away and (un)luckily hitting it. To this day, if it's not a pest, or I don't plan to eat it, I don't shoot it. Thanks for your comment and I hope you get to experience this gun sooner than later.
Good video, the biggest issue for this rifle for me is the amount of pumping. i use a blue printed rebel in both 177 and 22 (2 rifles) both are internally modified, and i can get 750 fps in 22 with 6 pumps, and 5 pumps in 177. with high accuracy. also for each shot i can vary the power if im taking a shot where i really do have to lower the power to avoid through and through damage to a barn or building. The fx indy is very accurate and im sure you havent found the sweet spot yet just using out of the tin ammo !! but the weight and price are just a tad high for the extra accuracy.. but im still very tempted... very... ps i could never live on top of a neighbour like that....
Just curious if you have had any moisture issues with the pump at all? I had the full size indy and had to send it back to AOA 2 times due to moisture build up in the built in pump. Was thinking about getting one of these if the moisture issues have been resolved with this build. Excellent review btw
FX has two bullpups. One is Indi. A short version of the full size Independence. Both have built in pumps on the side of the guns. The Indi has a 33cc air chamber. The Bobcat looks similar but has a 300 cc air chamber and no built in pump.
TheRmeyPilot I heard you say a little something about the US economy. I have no information other than seeing a photo on a forum. It was an FX Indie set up to shoot pellets or arrows like the verminater extreme. Just a thought.
Very good video. I really like the fact that you did not have any music. How do you find the low shot count and what power do you have in foot pounds please. I would like to see some hunting videos if you are able. Thanks from the UK
Being that I can pump this gun up whenever I like, I personally have no issues whatsoever with the shot count. Put it this way... I can accurately and easily take out 5 targets from 50-70 yards away with enough reserve pressure for at least 3 follow-up shots if necessary. If I have time in between shots, 4 strokes of the pump takes care of that full power shot. Energy-wise, the Hawke Chairgun Pro software (again, a free download) tells me that my muzzle energy at 870 FPS w/ the 18.1 grain pellet is 30.42 ft. lbs. On the hunting side, I can't do any better than Ted's squirrel hunting video. Check it out. It shows what a pro can do with the gun... FX Bobcat .22 Squirrel Pest Control
Great review and what a sweet rifle. I just got the INDY full size .22 and I sleep with it every night. Man, the FX platform is amazing. I'm splitting golf tees at 50 yrds all day long. At first it was un real the accuracy. Now it's become almost boring because you are going to cream what ever is in the cross hairs. I did notice that your shoe box back stop is more like a pass through, it appears that your pellet goes clean thru and dusts the wall behind, maybe I'm just seeing things. Good job either way.
Good eye. In retrospect, I should have had more packing in the shoe box. As you noted, the tall vertical stone wall backstop obliterated anything that made it through. As I mentioned in the video, I came very close to getting the full size Indy. I know I would've been happy with that one too, although I do like the small package of the Bobcat. It lays very nicely in the small space of my mini-cooper. Thanks for the comment!
YOUR LAST UPDATE WAS IN NOVEMBER 23 OF 2013!!!, WHAT HAPPEN AFTER THAT??? DO YOU STILL HAVE IT? NEED TO KNOW HOW HAS BEEN WORKING ALL THIS YEARS. HI!!!
very nice review for a very nice riffle. Thanks for sharing. Put a shortcut to your video on FX owner club forum. Please carry on the good job and sharing. I bet you will have a whole world more to tell soon.
Am I wrong to believe that the air chamber is lever filled with unfiltered air? Seems the air chamber; etc.. will suffer from using non dry scuba tank or hill pump status air.. seems to Me this could cause problems down the road especially in high humidity regions..?....
That's a good question. I think of all the other pump-style rifles and pistols from Crosman (some of which I still have) that don't seem to be affected by taking in ambient air. It suppose it isn't any different from filling any other PCP with a hand pump. This one is just built in to the gun. Time will tell. I will let everyone know what I learn in the coming years. ;)
Yes the air is unfiltered. This wouldn't matter if FX used onlu corrosion-resistant materials inside (brass, stainless etc) but unfortunately certain parts were made of ordinary steel and these corroded causing the pump on my independence to fail. I don't know what FX were thinking to use ordinary steel parts inside like this. I have replaced some parts inside with brass/aluminium ones and finally my rifle is performing as it should, though it has tried my patience. Before buying, I would make damn sure in particular that the 10mm OD tube inside the pump is made of aluminium NOT ordinary steel. I hope that didn't sound too negative, as when it is working properly this rifle has no equal
Thanks for the info there, I was weighing the advantages of different 9 mm's Now I'm edging towards the Windy City II or Rainstorm II. I've only used scuba grade air in My Royale or M-Rod -and since I don't have the know-how of appynoon.. maybe the Korean line is the best choice (sounds weird to say)
It needs to be a special type of compressor not just any kind, it has to be dry air and at 3000PSI or more depending on the PCP Airgun, you need something like a Scuba Diving Tank compressor, and those are not cheap. I use Scuba Tanks and refill at a paintball shop or Scuba Diving place.
+Brandon B would be good but doubt it will ever happen in the uk as youd have the idiots shooting the next doors cat i camn get sub inch groups at 65/70 yards on a wind free day
Barry. Yes to both of your questions. The Bobcat Independence is a PCP that has two methods to fill. A fillport and a built-in pump. At max fill of 3000 PSI (220 BAR) you get about 8 shots on full power before you are down to about 1500 PSI (100 BAR). The cylinder capacity on the Independence version of the Bobcat is small, I'm guessing for two reasons- 1. The pump mechanics take up quite a bit of the area that might otherwise be used for a larger cylinder. 2. It would take you forever to get a large cylinder charged to 3000 PSI with the built-in hand pump. I'm new to PCPs and don't even own the line to hook to the fill port but am considering getting one just to keep the wear and tear down on the pump when I am not in the field. There is someone on TH-cam that has a video about increasing the cylinder capacity on an Indy but frankly I'm very good with 8-10 shots per 36 pumps on full power and don't want the complications. Thanks for the great questions!
TheRmeyPilot I just read another review on this rifle on the Yellow forum. Pretty in depth like yours. Interesting about the number of issues he had on his, but was able to resolve them. www.network54.com/Forum/79537/message/1385145829/My+reveiw+of+the+FX+Indy+22 I think if I can dig up enough details about how to rebuild it, it'll be a very worthwhile rifle for me. I like the idea of completely self-contained power that greatly exceeds the power of any of my springers (and I do love my collection springer airguns). Once again, mahalo for your review any any future updates!
Thanks for directing me to his link, Hanabata. I responded on that forum with the issues that I had with mine. The sleeve issue I mention in my description above is identical to the problem he had. FX doesn't put loctite on the grub screws!! Hard to believe they leave the factory like that. In spite of the irritation of having to do something I feel the factory should have done, I am enjoying this gun immensely. Learning how to take it apart and replace parts can't hurt in the long run. Mahalo back you, my friend!
Very nice rifle, very nice review, but in my opinion it is wayyyyy overpriced, like all FX guns. I can get that same type of group at 35 yards with my Hatsan at44 which costs 6 times less lol Airgun prices in general are getting out of hand and FX is not helping!
Most incredible technical breakdown since I repaired an effluent pipe with two broken choir boys whilst in Nanaimo - one of the three shot's at he end was a little right of centre, but that will happen if you use square resources - "Who Dares Win's" Trigger
