    I first read lisa Z’s book last year. after getting my greenhouse i was inspired to garden year round. I used her methods to start yarrow, bachelors buttons, snapdragon, dara, pansies, black eyed susans, hollyhock, & straw flower. It was a huge success. My strongest bloomers of 2023 were from the fall sown seeds- and they went strong well into the Texas June heat dome. I want to try many more this year!

      Love it! I started a bunch of bachelors buttons, Dara, and snaps last year as well!

    For warmer climates I gather they grow roots and when the time is right in late winter early spring were off with a strong rooted plant. Ready to send out blooms. Fantastic ! I'm doing a direct sow of California Poppies in Fall! Love your content.

    Love love love your videos! By the way, I have had nearly 100% germination without soaking sweet peas!

    Thanks for the reminder to get started. I’ve been fighting weeds and mulching. New gardens prefer growing weeds to growing dahlias.

      I feel like it takes a good three years to get the weeds in a new garden under control …. Not my favorite thing to do.

    Great video. I have the book but need to get it out. Last year I tried winter sowing for hardy annuals with mixed results. I had good germination but took a long time to get vigorous plants. Your method makes more sense. I'm in 7a Washington DC and our winters are usually mild.

      I definitely think everyone needs to tweak things for themselves and their gardens … it’s amazing how much our areas differ.

    Up potting some snapdragons for fall transplanting while I i watch from sw Arkansas.
    I watched hours of Gardner's workshop last year and i am ready! Lisa is a good teacher.
    I'm adding more sahara rudbeckia, tons of chamomile, feverfew, dusty miller, stock ... Surely something has to survive our crazy weather!
    I had good luck with overwintering all those last winter for my first try.
    On the other hand, my brassicas are probably going to be too big before it cools enough to put them out, even with shade. What to do? May start over on those.

    I had looked everywhere for Fizzle Sizzle seeds. Thanks for sharing your sources.
    After viewing your video, I ordered my seed, and they are now popping up in my dark closet. Question, when do I bring them out to day light? Do I wait for all seed to germinate or bring them out when I have about 3/4 germination.. The little seed heads are pale and just popped up.. I am also in Zone 8a, Texas area around Cedar Creek Lake.. so hope we get some rain.. Enjoy watching a gardener in my area and zone..

      As soon as 50% have germinated, move them to the light. You don’t want them to get stretched out.

    How do you know When to you take the humidity dome off?

      As soon as 60% of the seeds have germinated, I remove the humidity some.

    Amanda I have struggled with seed starting this year. Some things simply never germinated. I know some of my veggie seeds were a couple of years old but others were new this year. I’m using sun gro seed starting mix which is a year old. I’m simply baffled since I’ve not run into this previously. I have a small greenhouse that we heat when needed. I’m zone 8a NC. Any thoughts?

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hmm … a couple of thoughts …. Are the seeds getting enough sun/light during the day? I grow mine inside and they get minimum 14 hours a day. Are they staying warm enough for long enough in the greenhouse? Is it getting too cold at night for them and slowing down the germination process? Are the seeds staying moist until germination? So many factors could be involved!

    Question. Can you just keep the bottom tray with water in it? (say daily) or does the soil get boggy?

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I usually leave the water but lots of gardeners would warn against that as it can lead to disease … but I do it anyway 😜

    I am confused. Are you keeping these in the house under lights or putting them outside in the dirt. If outside then when?

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I will grow them in the house for now. Once we get to fall in my area, I will plant the seedlings in the ground.
