5:13 I'd also like to remind you that professionals would like you to make a 12 port USB-C KVM. Supply power, network, and KVM over a single cable to laptops or uSFF computers
It would also be REALLY nice if servers could go to USB-C for KVM because your KVM could be your isolated management network, with a single cable

@@amirpourghoureiyan1637 That would be pretty good for home/multimedia production environments
I'm not speaking for all enterprise solutions, but for my use case ideall'y i'd have a 36 port KVM that i can throw in the back of a 36 laptop cart, that replaces the tangle of all the charging bricks, and allows remote access when the cart is in storage, as well as just 10/100 wired instead of wireless would be worth the world to me. Being able to have a read only USB-3 port would also be great if i needed to image all the laptops and didnt want to hit the network with all of that traffic of using PXE
I'd also like to retain the battery saving 'half the cart charges at a time' feature of the carts we have, but thats probably asking too much from what is effectively 36 docks, the laptop would probably disconnect the dock if it didnt recieve power
Edit, i say 10/100 would be better than wireless because having 36 laptops, on a single AP, while those laptops are effectively stacked on top of each other inside of a metal cube is not fun for remote access. I rarely see speeds over 10Mbps, and if there are 2 carts in the room, i'd usually never see over 3Mbps

The sweet thing with replaceable key switches is if there's one that's not quite the right activation dynamic you can swap them around, ie put the one with higher activation pressure onto a modifier, put the lightest ones on your ring fingers, etc.

"Dvorak phase" Lies, I've been trapped in a room with dvorak for 15 years.
I nearly failed my middle school typing class because the sysadmin had disabled keymap switching. They refused to enable it to my face. I have since learned that this is an accessibility feature, and I would have been legally entitled to twist his arm with the ADA.

It's always been kind of looked down upon in my experience, and they have a point it doesn't make sense to switch keymaps if you can type properly.
But I never learned to type properly until I took up Dvorak.
Plus IF you're going to do it, Dvorak is not the way anymore. Colemak has proven to be a much less intrusive alternative without the massive right-handed bias of Dvorak.
But Dvorak was the only one when I was learning to type and try as I might I can't stick with Colemak. Being a teenager with AIM in the 2000s was just the finest typing school you could ask for.

One thing to note about the BOX Royal switches you chose is that they become lightly clicky over time as the factory lubricant dries out. These are Kailh BOX series switches, and I do quite like them even when they’re clicky, I’d say I like them better. It’s not loud enough to bother people but it’s enough to give an audible feedback.

Really nice keyboard. Outside of my price range, but I certainly admire it. I'd probably modify it with some foam and different switches. I want that thock. I'd prefer different caps too. But I'm sure that board is a pleasure to use without modification. And cross-platform complete remap options? That's incredible. The USB hub would be fantastic... but I think that might have been a mistake. If it adds more than about $40 to the cost of the board, I don't think it's worth it. I'd much rather save the money as I've already got USB ports availble, and I don't really like the idea of having more spaghetti or USB drives sticking out of an otherwise very aesthetically pleasing keyboard.

Yeah, caps-lock is worthless. But num-lock actively hinders the use of your number pad. Why? Why does this exist? Why do companies continue to include this key?

because it's a standard. There are many operating systems, bootloaders and bios/uefi which start without enabling NumLock resulting a numpad left in navigation arrows state so that key is crucial.

AFAIK outside of ergonomic layouts, German and most French speakers don't.

I'd take my $300 and buy a used Thinkpad instead of buying a keyboard.

All those earlier ibm m/f keyboards are waaaay overhyped.
Any half-decent modern keyboard is incomparable. I've typed on a model m. Compared to a wasd or even a rapidfire it was like typing on gravel.
    Come on now.

300$ you don't even get shine throught caps, pass, i'm just gonna build a hotswappable keyboard, i don't see how this would be better than getting 2 keyboard for the price of 1 with better switches.

Yea I'm sorry but $300 for this is absolute insanity
There are plenty of quality mech qmk keyboards out you can buy/ build yourself for half the price

    • @Imaltont
      @Imaltont 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Building yourself isn't necessarily that much cheaper though, unless you get some cheap prebuilt and just mod it, which often isn't qmk compatible. You can build for cheaper, but if you want aluminium casing, hotswap, 90 keys for a 75% and pbt keycaps, you often aren't that far off $300, unless you happend to get (some of) the parts on sale. Cheapest build I have calculated was plastic 60% casing, dz60 pcb (or any other QMK compatible pcb, this is just the most accessible for me), polycarbonate plate, gateron/outemu's cherry clones and thin abs keycaps, which still comes to $100-150. Adding in the extra USB sockets it features as well, I don't really think the price is all that bad. Expensive ofc, but not out of this world compared to other luxury choices in the keyboard world.

Well, you have to believe in the open source mantra: if you don’t want to build it yourself, buy it from the market.

this keyboard is so not worth the price. plastic case, no gasket mouting, limited switch options.... sure you can hot-swap them but so can you with a 30 usd reddragon kumara. in this price range you can get much nicer keebs from keychron or gmmk.
