    Looks. like a fantastic pen. And, I'm gonna say that this is THE BEST PEN REVIEW I have ever seen. I am highly impressed by the quality of videography, editing, script writing, sound quality, etc. Thanks for all you do. Since having a variety of inks is such a vital part of the hobby, discussing how to easy it is to disassemble and clean a pen is something that truly appreciate. The Swipe survived the Ink Slayer test. I need this pen!

    I got mine today (Smoke M) & I truly love it! The ease of cleaning & disassembly alone is awesome!!! I hope TWSBI will make an all clear in this model!!!! Hopefully they will expand colors & styles for cartridge pens going forward!!!! 💜 I've got Diamine Earl Grey in mine & I'm very happy!!! By the way, your penslayer ink seems like some brutal stuff. Looked like it had a spoonful of plaster added, lol.

    • @InkyRocks
      @InkyRocks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      hahaha! I know! When I first opened it, I was amazed! How could this be ink?! But they have several inks in that line called "Respect" that use the base colors of famous artworks. When I dripped this ink into water, you could actually see some of the particles shooting down faster than the ink--pretty wild. Very unusual color when it dries though! Thank you so much for listening to the extended version!

    The only TWSBI that looks like a pen and not like a vaping pipe. The clip is useless and can cause stress cracks or worse around the top of the cap. Mine, purchased outside of the USA in August 2023, was not issued with two converters. It has the spring pump/piston installed and a separately packaged large cartridge and a spring. The plastic body scratches easily, especially when posting! Broad nib, writes smoothly, no hard starts or ink starvation as yet. Thanks for your review.

    • @InkyRocks
      @InkyRocks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Looks like you got mixed results with yours. I don’t use clips-they are basically a roll stop for me. And I don’t post. And your reference to a vaping pipe is hilarious. Thank you for your review-it adds to our collective knowledge.

    Lovely review, you really did do a very thorough stress test on it😂😂 more interesting is that the pen was first made for the US market, especially considering it is a Tawanese company, so I would have thought that they would look at their closer markets first.

    • @InkyRocks
      @InkyRocks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much Peter! I don't know if they marketed it to China/Taiwan earlier but it is a bit difficult to get new TWSBIs here before the States get them. They just released a "Japan" exclusive but it was a bit of a dissapointment.

  • @acerlazereye1232
    @acerlazereye1232 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Alexa!
    Great review, as usual. As you noted, the cartridge they include is considerably longer than 'standard'. Which is a good thing as, more ink capacity, right?
    Mine (also the Prussian Blue with 1.1 stub) hasn't arrived yet to verify, but I was under the impression the extra spring was to help hold normal-length cartridges in place, making the Swipe even more versatile. Is this the case?

    • @InkyRocks
      @InkyRocks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much! The cartridge is not that long. It's definitely longer than a standard international short cartridge but I don't know about a long one. It is definitely wider/girthier than most cartridges and that helps with the ink capacity. I think it has about the same capacity as a standard international long cartridge. But using the spring for other cartridges sounds like a brilliant idea. It didn't say so in the small instructions with the pen but I would definitely try that!

    I'm going to be a little critical with this one, although I'm a huge TWSBI fan. Firstly I don't find the design of the cap appealing at all, especially the clip. Then the finial of the barrel looks really cheaply made (we are used to a much higher level of manufactury quality by TWSBI, even with Go).
    On the good side we find the exceptional nibs from ECO & Go.
    The price is really good too.
    I really loved the fact that TWSBI offered some alternative filling systems, but then I have a million unused cartridges that I can use with Swipe 😂
    I didn't understand if TWSBI will be selling those extra thick cartridges separately, beyond the one the include in the packaging.
    Thank you for the nice review Alesa ❤

    • @InkyRocks
      @InkyRocks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much! They sell the cartridges in a pack (I don't use cartridges so I didn't buy them) but the cool part is that you can use other standard international cartridges, even though they are not the chonky TWSBI ones and use the spring. The bottom of the barrel is a bit disapointing but I like the price and ease of cleaning!

  • @davidanderson3425
    @davidanderson3425 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you for a relaxing (Mmm, jazz guitar background) video! I can see myself getting a Swipe if I fail to control my buying urges. Ha! The only thing I didn't like was the slightly unfinished rough plastic at the end of the barrel. It looked like it had just been 'snapped' out of some mould in the factory. Not a big problem and not a deal breaker. Overall I love the package. The pen looks clean and modern, largely due to the shape of the clip. The colour is very attractive and the choice of filling systems is remarkable at the price. Yes, I agree with you, the Swipe is definitely a contender for 'Pen of the Year' 2021.

    • @InkyRocks
      @InkyRocks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks David! I totally agree that plastic on the end was a bit surprising as it looks so bad, but I got over it as the price for what I got was so good! It's a useful and fun pen.

    Though I'm not a cartridge guy, I do like the cartridge converter pens, because they allow me to change inks sooner, so this pen is definitely on my radar.
    I have to think that TWSBI may be trying to up the ink cartridge game. Because of the difference in size of the cartridges, they'd be basically TWSBI only. Like others have done. Platinum, Pilot, Sailor, Parker, Sheaffer, Lamy, to name a few. Though, because they still can use a standard international ink cartridge, TWSBI pens are more versatile than others who have proprietary cartridges. Good decision on their part, IMO.

    Here’s a hint from someone who started with the cheapest, dime store Shaefer pens about 58 years ago at age 12:
    The easiest way to break the seal of a cartridge is to put the pen upside down against your desk and push from the top.
    Also, it should be noted that cartridges are reusable. Just clean them with the syringe, wait a bit for them to dry, then use the syringe to put in any ink you want. Finally, you can use the syringe to put a few drops of ink on the nib to get a jump start. Or simply let it sit in a holder nib down for about half a minute.
    The cartridges will wear out after a while. The hole starts getting too big to use. That’s when I clean it to dump it in my recycling.
    Okay, I admit I often store the free cartridges that come with pens to use or just clean for recycling some day because I prefer converters and the freebies are usually black ink which I don’t like. That, or I give them away to a friend who does like them, especially for travel.

    if only it had a nicer purple. Is the twsbi eco just as easy to clean/take apart?
    how did you fix the wetness btw? I know fixing wet nibs is a pain and very dangerous, and specially on a stub it might be hard. the only way I know of is two misalign the tines by a lot, then push them in towards each other.

    • @InkyRocks
      @InkyRocks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    TWSBI fan here. Have ordered both colors…one Prussian Blue (M) & one Smoke Demonstrator (1.1 Stub). Amazing value with all the included gear. Also splurged on a 6-pack each of black and blue mega cartridges. Wanted to get a bottle of Diamine Jack Frost but my cost was climbing a bit too fast. Maybe next time. Note: the spring might be well used when you stick a standard int’l. cartridge in there. Last note: I wonder id the LONG Int’l. cartridges fit OK? Anyone?

    This review has me reconsidering my decision not to get a Swipe, for the simple reason that I don't need another TWSBI. Also,I dislike the look of the clip. But the ease of cleaning is a definite plus. I have seen two reviewers send the spring-loaded converter flying across the room; apparently you have to use slow, steady pressure or you could have a mess.

    • @InkyRocks
      @InkyRocks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh really? I didn't have that problem at all. The closest to that I had was the barrel kind of pops off quickly when you are using that spring to keep the cartridge in. Someone was saying that spring is useful to use with short cartridges, thus making the Swipe more versatile. I really wanted to mess with TWSBI's first CC pen and am really pleased with it!
