    As an Inter fan from Italy, watching that semi-final vs. Atalanta was so sad. There was barely anyone there and basically zero Italian fans present for the ITALIAN Super Cup. Wild and sad.

    I don't think that American sports leagues playing in Europe is necessarily about "growing the game". There are NHL games in Finland every year now.

      It’s not about growing the game, it’s about growing their league. The NHL isn’t trying to bring awareness in hockey, they’re trying to give people the an opportunity to see some of the best hockey players in the world. Trust me the NHL isn’t worried about the popularity of ice hockey in Finland, they just want people in Finland to watch NHL. They just see an opportunity to create more fans of their product.

Most euro fans follow the local club/league plus the occasional exploits of guys from their club in the NHL.

I'm in the UK, and recently we've had Belfast Giants play last season in the group stage and get some impressive results against Czech and Swedish teams. We don't need the NHL and we have add our own ultras European flavour to the sport that makes it more exciting. Have you seen ultras at an ice hockey game before? Madness.

    Only issue in terms of revenue for the Serie A/italian football as a whole is that the government makes it very difficult for any club to renovate or build a new stadium which can be more pleasant for fans and have bars, restaurants inside and around the stadium and a lot of stadiums in Italy are owned by the councils of where the stadium’s are based. The Meazza is owned by the Milan council, the Artemio Franchi isn’t owned by Fiorentina, Marassi (Stadio Luigi Ferraris) isn’t owned by Sampdoria or Genoa, the Maradona is owned by the Napoli council and not the club, etc etc. So on top of that, most of these clubs have to pay a fee every year to use the stadium. And if there happen to be other events like concerts, the money from those events don’t end up going to the clubs

    • @picnic5147
      @picnic5147 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Agreed. Am I right that the San Siro still has the same multi coloured seats installed for the 1990 world cup? How easy would it be to change the seats to red, black and blue? Obviously not easy when it is owned by a council!

    • @FCIM_1
      @FCIM_1 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ yeah, still those same colours for those stands and tbh, I don’t think the colours need to be changed as someone who is a die hard for inter, with the whole commotion that went on with the ultras the ‘curva nord’ (inter ultras) have renamed themselves as the ‘secondo anello verde’ (second green ring) which is the section of where the ultras are based. So I don’t think that is the issue plus when it isn’t a derby, the fans of what team is playing can sit anywhere on the two tiers of San Siro. So it would be pretty weird for milan fans to sit at inter’s ultras side where it would be black and blue ahahah.
      With the San Siro it’s more so the money earned from it, despite it having a capacity of 75,000, it doesn’t earn as much as some of the other stadiums in Europe where there might be hotels, shops and restaurants. There are some VIP stuff from what I know but doesn’t earn much in comparison to the Bernabeu, for example. There have been discussions for renovations called by the mayor of Milano, but nothing has been decided. Milan already have plans to move out, Inter too but Inter are a bit behind with that. But what’s conflicting is that according to the president of Milan, plan A is to be with Inter at the San Siro or to build a new stadium together, and plan B is to build a separate stadium for Milan. It’s rather confusing because Milan have spent a bit just for the planning of this new stadium they want. And we have just leased some area just outside of Milano, to plan the new stadium, there has been no news about the future for the stadium(s) for about 2/3 months.

    It's easy:
    The Premier League has kinda ruined football by having unlimited money and almost no restrictions and other leagues around the world can't keep up so they make tournaments up and play them in the only countries so dumb and with so little football culture that they are willing to throw money at you for your worst "tournament" to be held there.
    I mean, they paid 15 millions just for this 3 matches so good on serie A to accept them.
    Great analysis especially on the last part of the video, Premier got all of the money because english became the universal language, La Liga has the advantage of Spanish being like top 5 languages in the world and thus having a huge market pool. Meanwhile serie A used to be on top of the world but now money speaks and Premier and Real are the loudest.
    The premier league is not the best league in the world, just the richest (the correlation between the two things is very cyclical) so just get the bag where you can

    • @napolean_ragland
      @napolean_ragland 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +16

      Nobody has unlimited money because of financial fair play restrictions. You could say the other countries ruined football by not keeping up with the premier league. They were too busy funneling their profits to the top teams rather than spreading it out. And when people are watching premier league and la liga in China, India, Africa etc, theyre not watching it in english and spanish. Countries show football games using whatever the main language of that country is.

    • @daviebananas1735
      @daviebananas1735 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

      Why would the language matter? Premier league is biggest in Asia where English is NOT the lingua Franca. EPL is so rich as SkyTV NEEDS it so much to not go bust, so they slowly had to pry more and more as they can’t afford to lose it. The money slowly made the teams better and better and now it’s legitimately BY FAR the most competitive league. Even smaller teams like Brentford and Bournemouth have top international players in every position. This means any team can beat any other team most games so it’s good to watch.

    This is the main reason ive stopped liking football as much as i used to. The money in a sport that is predominately for working class people across the world now has a huge barrier of entry if you want to support a relatively big club. I may be called a casual, but i no longer support my club from when i was a small child due to high ticket prices, high merch costs, and the way that the sport is going. I currently live in a place where pretty competitive football is played without huge amounts of money, and a more community based feeling is around the club and ground. However, even that league is now being flooded with clubs that are either historically big or flush with money compared to other teams in the league. Ive become fairly apathetic to football at any high or highish level now.

    Corporations are in financial competition with each other. Football clubs are too and additionally they are in sporting competition with each other, which directly ties back to the financial situation. It is essentially market economy on steroids.
    The Premier league has broken down any unspoken barriers, so everyone is now scrambling to keep up. Well except for the Bundesliga, kind of, I really hope that they stick to the middle way they are currently going, it would be very interesting to see where they end up.

    I disagree on the point that Italy needs to do anything for money.
    According to Deloitte Football Money League 2024 Juventus (11th), Milan (13th), Inter (14th) and Napoli (19th) were all within the top 20 football clubs with the highest revenue.
    "there have been notable changes between positions 11-20, with Eintracht Frankfurt, SCC Napoli and Olympique de Marseille replacing a trio of Premier League clubs in Leicester City, Leeds United and Everton."
    -> poorly performing PL teams actually were overtaken in terms of revenue.
    "Serie A clubs - AC Milan, FC Internazionale Milano and SSC Napoli - also reported significant revenue growth following strong on-pitch results, both domestically and in the UCL. SSC Napoli reported an 80% increase in broadcast revenues following their first Scudetto since 1989/90 and a strong UCL performance. Similarly, AC Milan and FC Internazionale Milano reported increases of 30% and 22% having reached the semi-finals and finals of the UCL for the first time since 2006/07 and 2009/10, respectively."
    -> You don't get +30% revenue from some cup matchs in Saudi-Arabia for ~8 Million. (according to sources it's 200mil for 6 years divided by 4 clubs each year).
    Italy has a specific law in place to lower taxes on player wages. Their country is already giving them a significant advantage so they should at least play there.
    edit: scratch that last part. The law wasn't extended but it was active from 2019 to 2024.

    The bit about watching the NFL in the UK reminded me of something. So I split my time and sporting attention between the US and Australia. The wild thing for me is in Australia, a country that is fucking wild about its own sports leagues, there is a chain of sports bars called The Sporting Globe. Now admittedly, sports bars aren't really a thing down there, but this chain is trying to change that. But rather than anything relating to Australians ports, the ads they run mostly seem to just feature NFL stuff. It's so weird to see because as far as I can tell, nobody down there really cares much about the NFL, and I don't know why anyone would expect them to. They've got Rugby, which is...fine, if you're into Rugby. They've got the AFL, which is like if Rugby and the NFL did a shitload of coke and had a coke-addicted baby, and that's fucking awesome to watch. They've got the A-League which is a fun as hell league, even if it's nowhere close to the quality of the top leagues in Europe.
    But no, TSG's ads are just....NFL stuff, for some reason.

    Go back 30 years to when Serie A was the best league in the world they still had restrictions on how many foreign players could be in a match day squad. The money came from dubious sources which is why the likes of Parma, Sampdoria, Fiorentina and Lazio imploded, it was just unsustainable. Nobody knew that English people would pay 70 -80 pounds a month just to watch Brighton v Fulham or Crystal Palace v Southampton live and the novelty has never worn off. Fans in other countries who could pay that kind of money to watch their own domestic leagues have decided it isn't worth it. That is the sole reason that the Premier League is so dominant, we English are stupid....

      Lolz just kidding. Capitalist, collective, not for profit, or for profit - all professional clubs do this type of thing. Because professionals by definition work for money. And competitions between professional orgs (such as a league) require everyone to compete over making money if they don’t want to be relegated.
      Most of these clubs are not for profit. They are not motivated by profit. They are motivated by winning. In professional sports however winning requires you to pay better (usually more expensive) players than your opponents.

    7:11 we won't get meaningful change that's gonna lessen the amount of money in football unless people from all around the world agree to boycott everything that makes the richest clubs and leagues money. It would take time and effort just convincing people, but I really want to see that happen.
    The issue with everything is that once clubs agreed to put sponsors on their shirts and their stadium, it was the beginning of the slippery slope that contributed to clubs leagues chasing the bag whenever they can to get ahead of competition, outpricing fans in the process and creating a footballing elite that's never gonna quit their league's table top.

    Money already is destroying football and this is just an acceleration. The gap between the supporters in the stands and the players on the fields continues to grow. I'll just happily watch my local amateur teams instead of this circus.

Koopmeiners to Juventus was the 3rd highest transfer fee last summer as well at 55 million was spent. Also Serie A spent the 2nd most in all of Europe last summer, only behind the Premier League and nearly doubling the amount La Liga clubs spent. We need to bridge the gap still as its been a while a Serie A club won the UCL but its just not true we are behind Bundesliga and La Liga

Then continue the Champions and Europa League with the top 10 UK teams and the best from the Super League teams. A league with Real, Barcelona, Bayern, Dortmud, PSG, Juventus, Inter, AC Milan etc... is the only way to compete financial with the EPL. EPL adds Celtic\Rangers as well becoming the UKPL I guess.

    The reason you can`t watch it on those channels is that they cannot afford to pay as much for it as the likes of Sky. Don`t kid yourself, mate, and please don`t try to kid me. I`m not stupid and I`m not gullible.

      Ajax captured the lightning in a bottle with an insanely good generation of young players and what happened afterwards? They immediately got picked apart. 20 years ago smaller clubs could keep their players for a couple of years, nowadays the top clubs begin making contracts with prospects who are still in the womb of their mothers, so small clubs get at most one season out of their talents, just look how far South America has fallen behind Europe, when the continents where once roughly even. I don’t like games abroad but I don’t think it’s wrong to at least try staying competitive and just because Ajax managed it for one season doesn’t mean their strategy is a viable way for a whole league.
