  • In this video I cover the 7 proven steps to aquascape success based on my own experiences from the last 15 years of aquascaping and keeping planted aquariums. I apply the 7 steps to my own Aquascaper 1200 Nature Aquarium.
    The Steps -
    1. Choosing the aquarium
    2. Lighting
    3. Substrate
    4. Filtration and Circulation
    5. CO2 Injection
    6. Liquid fertilisers
    7. Plants
    I really hope you enjoy this one. It's been a great video to produce for you and I am sure it can help you achieve some success in your own aquariums.
    Keep on scaping!

Thanks again George for all the time you put in to getting this beautiful hobby out there to everyone and helping me through the process! THANK YOU!

    Ah, yes! I’d love a full video from you on liquid fertilizers! I’m about to set up my first “large” planted tank. All my fish tanks have always been fully planted, but they were all under 20 gallons. My new tank is 60 gallons, and I want to make sure my plants flourish! yeah.....over time as I learn things there are more things to purchase to get things right....and I'm not even close to having aquariums the size and involvement than a lot of folks I subscribe to on YT. So far I work more than enjoy. This week though, I made a rule that I would not do water checks, vacuuming, or anything else for one entire day. It was quite worth it. I just put on some music I like and talked with my fish and checked out how some plants are growing great and some not in my different tanks and understanding this.
      I also busted my rear putting together an aquarium stand and actually succeeded after 4 hours of work doing it. Although I won't be doing that again, it's going to be so much fun using it as it's really pretty and I hope safe...that is safe for the amount of water and glass the shelves will have sitting on them.

  • @HotshotH
    @HotshotH 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Another great video and lovely aquarium. Success is always linked to balance. Light, CO2 and nutrients. A great video would be how to spot if you have too much or too little of each of these. Often aquarists don’t know which parameter to change, or in which direction. e.g. if you have algae, is this because of too little light, starving the plant of the ability to photosynthesise or too much light, starving the plant of nutrients. How to achieve the right balance would make for a great in-depth series.

    Hi George.
    Great videos. I'll be purchasing your book. 👍
    How long have you been running with one filter. I'm guessing your not running into trouble because the tank is mature. Also, there's more load on that single heater. Maybe that's why it's on more.
    I'm looking to purchase the 1500 aquarium this year. I called into aquarium Gardens. Great shop. The one oversite I didn't consider was the actual running costs of the tank.
    Did you notice a increase in your electricity bills running the 1200 with two oase.
    Thanks.

    Really in two minds on getting either the AS900 or the AS1200 do you think I can run the 1200 on ONE of the oase 600 thermo ?
    And would def like some more videos on the dosing and fertiliser side of things ?! And I’ve never had or done c02 can I get buy without it until I make the dive ?? Cheers great videos George as normal. 👌🏻👍🏻

  • @yskye
    @yskye 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for your videos which have definitely inspired me to get back into the hobby after a break of several years. Three questions. 1) You always emphasise the importance of circulation. Why do you have the filter inlet and outlet next to one another? I always had them at opposite ends of the aquarium. 2) At 9.20 you say you do 50% water changes - how often do you do them? 3) I previously had a heating element buried in the substrate but I have not seen this included in any of the videos I have watched. Is this heating not used nowadays?

    • @GeorgeFarmerStudios
      @GeorgeFarmerStudios  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, thanks for the feedback.
      The filter inlet and outlet together promotes better all-round circulation. If they are at opposite ends the flow in more linear with dead spots being more likely.
      I change 50% water weekly.
      Substrate heating is rarely used nowadays.

      Great Video again George,just as a follow on to Stephen's question and your answer,this is where I'm lost,in general George if we get to (using manufacturers specs) of 10x water changes /hour,should that remove any CO2 dead areas, or is it trial and error, testing co2 levels throughout and using or not using a small powerhead till we reach that point.
      Hope that makes sense GF,and again thanks for taking the time to post and help.

  • @Blazemalta
    @Blazemalta 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, a big well done for your channel.. So easy to understand and informative.
    I have a question if you dont mind.. Im a one tank guy.. Discus and plants and a mild dose of Co2. Obviously in my case it is important that a balance is found for both the plants and discus to thrive. (I also have some tetras and some L number plecs). My tanks is 240L btw.
    Im not happy With the mixture of colours I have. My 3D background is greyish and the gravel is overall brown because it has mixed colours in it. Then there are the plants (green) and the bogwood (brown).
    Do you recommend I change the gravel to grey sand to match the 3D background or will a white sand look better? And is sand good to anchor plants since I'm thinking sand will look better then gravel and I want to make the switch?
    I will use root tablets for the plants.
    Thanks, -Kev.

    You’ve shown maintaining CO2 diffusers in tank, how often do you service inline diffusers?

      I use a hose brush in them every time I clean the hose - every 3 weeks or so

    Hi George! You are a great teacher 👨‍🏫. I would like more info on the health of the livestock vs what we put in our tanks. I always worry when i fertilize for example. I am afraid it hurts them in the long run. Other subject would be the uv and electrolyse sterilizers. Again thank you for the coaching. Looking forward to your book release.
