    I am surprised because in this video, they sort of apologize for making an album like Falling into Infinity. I don't know what they are talking about, because for sure that album is not the greatest album of the music history. For sure it is not the best Dream Theater album too. And it sounds also very different from the other albums. But in THAT album there are iconic DT songs like Lines in the sand, Hell's Kitchen, Trial of tears, Hollow Years, New Millenium, Peruvian Skies, Anna Lee, Burning my Souls! I mean maybe I named all the songs in the album LOL Yes the other 3-4 tracks that I have not named, are that kind of tracks that Portnoy is complaining about. That kind of songs written "to satisfy the industry". And honestly we all felt that at the time. But the other songs are LEGIT Dream Theater songs!! It was just a different Dream Theater album, but it was GREAT. In his own way. And I always liked that album from the first day. I never understood all the criticism about that album, still today, more than 20 years after it came out. Anyway we had almost another 20 years of Dream Theater after this anniversary! This is amazing!

      Yeah, man. Got you definitely. I just love FII and I too don't understand why they created this obscure atmosphere around this album. FII has amazing (yeah, amazing) songs... Much better than some from later albuns.
      Still can't understand why they reject this album so much.

    • @maciejkowalski2759
      @maciejkowalski2759 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@KakoSales85 I think they are complaining not so much about the album itself but about the atmosphere that surrounded making of this album. And sure, while most of the songs that ended up on the album are quite good, there was a bunch of songs that they also recorded during that period but which DIDN'T end up on the album - like Raising the Knife, or Metropolis part 2. The songs had to be cut in favor of some shorter, more commercial songs. And while in the end its maybe better that the 25 minute version of Metropolis part 2 did not make it onto the album, as it made way for "Scenes from the Memory", at the time the band could have been really frustrated about not being allowed to release that song.

It's the album that got us all hooked... BUT... It isn't every fans favorite anymore... Most albums post Falling into Infinity (Which still has some GREAT songs, most notably "Lines in the Sand" and John Myung's "Trial of Tears.") have been pretty fantastic... Especially Systematic Chaos (My favorite DT album to date) and Octavarium... Listen to them a little more carefully sir... You have to change things up sometimes to keep the peoples interest intact...

    • @Nettacki
      @Nettacki 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Eric E Gutierrez I'm surprised you consider Systematic Chaos your favorite DT album to date, because to me (and to many others), it's one of their weaker efforts. You could tell they were working on a schedule and not in a way that allowed their songwriting to be more organic like older releases.

    • @palonazo
      @palonazo 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      In my opinion, the DT sound that got me hooked stopped to exist when Kevin Moore left. People complain about Mangini now... they have no idea how much more significant the change to Rudess was than the change to Mangini. Moore was magic, he was the melancholy in all those great Awake songs. But I guess it all depends on when you started following the band and if you're in for the music or just for the CALCULATORRRR METALLLL. I'm a 90s boy I guess.

    I started to listen DT last year a few month before I saw them on the Along for the Ride tour in Europe. Since then I listen DT almost daily. People say DT is no more like it was with Portnoy. Even though I'm glad they continued to sing after Portnoy's departure.

      +VictoriusHD Agreed... Dream Theater still sounds great, and their newest album is among their best work... I still think Portnoy is the better drummer, but Mike Mangini still does the job very well... And they are still my favorite band no matter what...

    1:05: When he says they change like no other band, I say Rush lol. Both have changed profusely, but I think Rush, considering they're like 10-11 years older than DT, they've changed more than this band. Bottom line, both are awesome. This is just my opinion, but I'm open to differences and other opinions

    • @DuffBassGNR2
      @DuffBassGNR2 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would agree, except that Rush is a little older...they started in 1968. But Rush has definitely changed the most of any band I know. Dream Theater is definitely a second though

      it's pretty simple actually. DT are heavily influenced by Rush. so Rush changed the world with their music, then DT took it to the next level. but bottom line is, as you said, they're both great.

    • @fraroc
      @fraroc 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rush went through phases in their history. From their debut to Moving Pictures they were 70s prog rock, then in the 1980s they went through sort of a synthpop/new wave phase with Geddy Lee playing more keyboards. Presto to Clockwork Angels is more of the traditional prog.

    • @digitaldeathsquid3448

      Sebax I meant his attitude to making music. Because Dream Theater's sound is unique and, well, progressive, the producers for Falling Into Infinity tried to take that Unique point from Dream Theater and churn out generic hits. This is something no punk would ever do. They eschew the music industry trying to screw them over. Thus, Mike's attitude is similar to punk musicians. I didn't say they PLAYED punk music.
