I found this to be an incredibly upsetting episode at the time. Upsetting but at the same time very impressive. Mainly because they dealt with things so realistically. I mean anyone else catch the George Bush reference in this episode? Homelanders speech while they were cleaning the wreckage is the same speech Bush gave with a bull horn during the 9/11 clean up. A truly well written and acted series.
The fly is unfortunately not important. Kripke said he kept any flies that flew into the screen in there to add to the "grit" of the scene, but that he didn't have any intention of adding flies himself.
This episode is absolutely incredible, and it does a great job balancing things with the absolute horror of the plane followed a bit later by the comic relief of the absolutely hilarious dolphin scene. (Yes, having a real dolphin die would be horrific, but in this case the difference is the relative gritty realism of the plane and all of its horrors vs. the so-over-the-top ludicrousness of the whole dolphin scene, down to the slow-mo, etc.)
In actuality, Homelander's explanation of why he wouldn't be capable of saving that plane was sound if you consider the physics of it all; however I personally couldn't help but wonder if Homelander had been able to maintain a consistent speed with the aircrafts descent, while say having Maeve riding on top him, if she might be able to guide the plane from underneath during it's descent because that would at least have given Maeve a surface that she could push off of while attempting to support the aircrafts weight.
This episode is easily one of the top 5 episodes of all television history. The ups and downs of the emotional roller coaster, the comedy, the writing, just everything. The transition of Butcher's fantastic Spice Girls speech, then immediately to their song playing, the redeeming value of Deep actually rescuing a dolphin which quickly turns to a weird sexual thing, and then the slow-motion of the dolphin crashing along with the music.......wow....just so amazing. Also, I'm always a little surprised when someone takes the dolphin death to heart so much. It's not like it's actually real.
I'm glad y'all read the description. The episodic descriptions each time tend to be very vague end extremely general and sometimes give you no inkling of what you're about to experience

as someone who read the original comic around 15 years ago, the hijacking was the event i was hoping they'd cover when the show was announced. i was not disappointed.
This show is fucked up, no doubt. But there is something about it that always made me come back. This is actually one of my favorite shows of all time. Its well written, and extremely well acted. Homelander goes from a character you hate, to a character you love to hate. This show, and the characters, evolve in all the best ways possible. Its worth all the insanity you see, this show makes me laugh, cry, and scream. I hope it doesn't become too much for y'all (though I understand if it does). I hope you continue to watch, I think its worth it.

I was waiting for y’all to watch this mostly cause it breaks a lot of people and they stop watching the show. Which is a shame bc is only to establish the main villain through the series, it makes sense the scene is as dark as him. But the show does push some boundaries but mostly bc it is also a commentary on events in real life. Great reaction. Kevin is adorable

Is crazy how many things they talk about and use as storylines in the show involving the CIA, government, and how media works in season 2 and 3 are true...they just add superheros to the story. Won't spoil anything in the comments though. Is an awesome show, gives an realistic depiction of how superheros would be in real life I think instead of how the Marvel depicts them
