    I will show you how to connect the leader in an upcoming knot tutorial. Offshore guys use the spider hitch to double the line for knot strength and to help prevent bite offs.

    Looks like the key was switching hands to pull the main line so the loops came off instead of pulling on the loop. Thx, great explanation.

    This fishing Loop looks very good and great to use. But I'm with the last two inquiries about the purpose of this Loop. And I have read what you have said in response to the purpose. I guess I'm the only one who is still a little bit lost do you understand the concept for its purpose. Maybe and hopefully on your next video you can explain a little bit more with a visual demonstration. Thank you.

    that's cool never heard of this before. What are uses for this knot

    • @Saltyscales
      @Saltyscales  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Wesley, it's primarily used by offshore fisherman for 100% knot strength and to create a double loop to help prevent bite offs. You use the spider hitch to conjoin braid and fluorocarbon/mono.

    Great video like always. but me being a bass fisherman, when can I use this not?
    thanks in advance

    • @Saltyscales
      @Saltyscales  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is for that day that you aren't a bass fisherman and go offshore, all jokes aside you can still use this knot to tie your leader on and just create a smaller loop. More clarification to come on the next knot video.

  • @i2aspire

    Is this knot useful in freshwater fishing, gonna use it next time I go saltwater fishing for black drum

    • @Saltyscales
      @Saltyscales  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use this for bass, just make the braid loop smaller and attached your leader which I will be discussing in the next tutorial.

  • @Tinker46

    Josh, do you have a video on how to tie the shock leader to the spider hitch knot?
    I have tried several methods I found from other channels but they all slip under pulling pressures.
    I may have missed something in these videos. Please advise
    Dr D

  • @dinoharrison5138
    @dinoharrison5138 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    OK Capt. Joshua, I watched this video when it came out. I watched the next installment with the "no name" knot and then came back to re-watch this one. You know me, I am confused. Why would you want such a large loop in the line? I just can't figure out what I am missing. Sorry Dude!

    • @Saltyscales
      @Saltyscales  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The offshore guys like it because in many instances the toothy fish such as the kings, wahoo etc... will attempt to eat the lead weight, in doing so they will cut the line. the double line sometimes prevents the complete cut off.

    as the novice I am I have to ask.....why do anglers use a spider hitch?

    • @Saltyscales
      @Saltyscales  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Norman, that is a fair question. I have a follow up video that should answer your questions about this hitch knot.

  • @maniotero3895
    @maniotero3895 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    What is the purpose of the loop you create when making this knot?

    • @Saltyscales
      @Saltyscales  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I probably should have mentioned it, this loop is created to double the line and connect to a mono leader. So when you are deep dropping and a toothy fish hits your sinker, swivel etc...it may prevent you from losing the fish all together by only cutting one line.
