    Inspired by the iconic Finnish Leuku, the Benchmade 202 is the perfect companion blade to the smaller 200 Puukko. Built to handle everything from heavy chopping to stake carving, the Leuku combines a classic Scandinavian silhouette with the modern materials like ultra tough CPM-3V tool steel and a rubberized Santoprene handle for a comfortable and secure grip. The sheath is a versatile leather pouch sheath with drop loop and ferro rod holder because a fixed blade knife is only as good as its carry system. Perfect for camping, bushcrafting or just as a single tool option for any outdoor adventure, the Benchmade Leuku can handle the toughest of tasks with ease.

    Looks like a great knife but I don't like the sheath design. Looks like it could fall out easily and I like drawing my knife with a full grip. Got any suggestions on different sheaths for it?

    • @Gpknives
      @Gpknives  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A bit of shock cord at the top of the handle should do the trick. If not, there are quite a few custom sheath makers out there that could do something for this. Thanks for watching.

  • @andromacky4212
    @andromacky4212 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    How is the retention on the sheath? My puukko sheath has zero retention 0/5 sheath. Bent over and it plopped right into a lake.

    • @Gpknives
      @Gpknives  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Retention is not super tight on these. I would add some shock cord for better retention with the factory sheath.

    Isn’t Benchmade upping the HRC on the pukko also?

    • @Gpknives
      @Gpknives  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe they are upping the HRC on their 3V across the board.

    I just wish the leather sheath was brown instead of black, IMO brown would look way better with the military green handle on the knife. But oh well.

    Is the Rockwell true 60-62 HRC? I know the puukko was listed as such but was only 56-58 HRC.

    • @Gpknives
      @Gpknives  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not sure the exact HRC but I do know that Benchmade has adjusted the heat treat on their 3V in recent months. We'll have to wait for someone on YT to send it out for testing. =)

    In which way exactly is it a leuku?

    • @Gpknives
      @Gpknives  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Blade shape and design. This is a modern interpretation of the classic Finnish design.

    • @user-vo1ni1im1l
      @user-vo1ni1im1l 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Gpknives sorry, mate, in that case one can call any knife a leuku. This one has lost all the characteristic features of a leuku, which you rightly note in your review. A wide blade, scandi grind and the very peculiar mushroom handle end.
      Don't get me wrong. I like this knife. A very nice forest companion. All features are done right including the sheath. However calling it a leuku is a long stretch on Benchmade's part. A modern interpretation gone too far.

    • @Gpknives

      @@Gpknives we had a company over here in Russia called Southern Cross (Yuzhny Krest). Maybe they are still out there making knives... They claimed they were making Russian-style knives. Blades were exactly the same ;) I had a knife like that some 15 years ago with a wooden handle though . It's that universal blade shape many people will like. But a leuku is such a specific knife, a heavy knife. We love Finnish knives in Russia.

    • @user-vo1ni1im1l
      @user-vo1ni1im1l 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @joe Recto I won't argue, mate. But please google for leuku pics and see for yourself: this is not a leuku blade, this is not a leuku handle, this is not a leuku sheath. This is not a leuku.
      I agree, though, that BM were inspired by the original leuku and interpreted it much in a modern and I'd add American way.

    • @Gpknives

  • @stevanoutdoor
    @stevanoutdoor 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Finally someone that actually looked at the history of the knives. Of course there are shorter and bigger Leuku knives, but this one is to short for me to be called a Leuku. Sure it has similarities in blade shape but that for me is where it ends. The Leuku is for heavy work like chopping and carried in addition with the Puukko (which just means knife). I'm not gonna chop with a just over 5 inch (13 cm) blade but I baton with it. Less energy used.
    I agree that it might be a good one tool option but with a price of 195,50 euro here ($221) it's a no for me.

    • @Gpknives
      @Gpknives  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry to hear that the euro price makes this a no-go for you. Great knife for the price here but I agree, it is not what would be traditionally considered a Leuku. Thanks for watching.

      @@Gpknives Vote Trump and we might get a better deal, because he's a master in negotiating trade deals. Many Europeans like American made knives but it's the cost here that's crazy.

    • @Gpknives
      @Gpknives  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most Scandinavian designs do not have a forward guard. These are primarily slicing or chopping tools. Despite the lack of guard they are very secure in most use. Definitely not a combat or fighting knife. Thanks for watching.
