I played im the game and beat it on normal and casual, nothing special anyone will find. Except the fact that I've been playing as if it was classic, but I've "lost" people multiple times. Normal feels like bio shock one, simple, but later will start kicking your ass if you don't start thinking more
INB4 they (hopefully) remove casual from the next FE and bump the difficulty back to FE:6 HM standards.

Good tip for beginners. Take your Frederick (classed up guy) and give his weapons to your other characters, disarm him completely. This will make him not attack enemies that he aggros. He is extremely hard for the enemy to kill early on so you can bait enemies into attacking him, and then push onto them with your lower level forces to kill them.

Also it's too early to get a noble rapier at the stage they're at unless through some magical RNG (Anna or picking up items off the floor) and yeah. Marth should have a Rapier.

yeah awakening was my first f/e game so I went to normal classic mode first run. now I'm attempting a no-death run on hard classic.
Aquaclaw unfair in my opinion. I'm a veteran fire emblem player, i've finished all the gba games multiple times. But when i play awakening on hard my units just keep dying because of all the randomly spawning units that can attack in the turn they spawn. Since on the first time you play the level you have no idea what is going to spawn there i found alot of my units dying without being able to do anything about it. I was 20 hours in when i had to start over on normal dificulty because i just couldn't take it anymore. Hard mode could have been done better in my opinion.

Aquaclaw i don't know for sure. But i thought your stats remain the same after you change classes (except for stat bonusses indicated by the blue +). If you want to do that you can do it i think. Since the avatar uses swords to begin with. But personally i never change classes
Leveling up isn't a limited resource whatsoever. It's called a Reeking Box. You can buy it from like, Chapter 3 onward. You can summon infinite amounts of zombie fodder to the map to level up as much as you want.
+Jesse Colton Including the DLC EXPontential Growth. I spent somewhere around 30 hours trying to train all my characters, they all are now OP and you can always replay DLC.
A butterfly I didn't even REALIZE there was DLC until recently (how sad, right?), but yeah those missions and their characters are so easy to overpower.
I accidentally overpowered Morgan to the point of ludicrousness. When I got her, she came with a certain set of skills that ensured every attack was critical (totally by accident, too!) and by the time she was max-leveled, she could literally take on an army. And when I say literally, I mean I did that mission where you fight Ike's grandson and he has an ARMY of soldiers, and she killed them all by herself without taking any damage.

I know this is old, but Reeking Boxes become pointless in harder difficulties because the price for it gets a lot higher and the enemy spawns get a whole lot harder (Lunatic boxes spawn Promoted lvl 20 units)

Trust me, I felt the same the day I picked up Awakening. But soon, you get the gist of it soon enough. I'm playing on Normal Classic and up to Chapter 19. DOWN WITH THE CONQUEROR! (Sorry for spoilers.)

Common sense alone won't get you through the harder difficulties.

Normal Casual- No challenge at all. 1/10 difficulty.
Normal Classic- Still pretty easy. but mistakes are very costly. 4/10 difficulty.
Hard Casual- Difficult enough to be a challenge. But easy enough to give you a beaver. 5/10 difficulty.
Hard Classic- This is a good challenge. You will need to think very carefully to make it without losing any units. 7/10 difficulty.
Lunatic Casual- Really hard and frustrating. but at least your units come back. 8.5/10 Difficulty.
Lunatic Classic- You're in hell baby. Only Frederick will save you. 10/10 difficulty.
Lunatic+ any-....Good luck!

Elfire II I was making fun of your playing skills as sacred stones is regarded as one of the easiest games in the series. But It really doesn't matter, since you may just get unlucky or be really good at the games you play. Therefore, I have no right to call you a "filthy casual". It's fine to restart for units you you want to keep. Plus everyone slips up now and again, so It's no problem to want to restart in the first place. What I said in the parenthesis was that by definition, you aren't a "filthy casual" based on what I had previously stated. "Just kidding, you do what you feel comfortable with, or you do you". If I truly offended you, I apologize.
yeah i tried playing the past games and its much harder than sacred stones (but i did eventualy beat them all chars alive)... still the series is fun and i cant wait for the NA release of the new game
a few good things to keep in mind are:
Level 20 and 30 are not the maximum power. There's stat boosters, and if you use a second seal, you can revert a character from maximum level to level 1 of the same class and not lower your stats. Wash, rinse, repeat. Massive power!
Also, pay attention to the ratings and the computer's predictions. A unit with full health and a rating of like 200 won't fall to a unit with a rating of 98. The screen will display a screen with two large numbers under the fighters, one leading to the next by an arrow on each side. chances are, if theres not a level gap, or crazy ability, stat, and support boosts, it'll go like that

I play the game on classic and just reset when a character dies. Now you might be saying "What's the point of playing classic" welp, it has taken me 3 hours to get to the third level (granted i've only played 1 fire emblem game yeeeaars ago so I'm kinda bad) but I swear by the end of this game, I will be a GOD Tactician

just got this game. i've spent a couple hours on casual with permadeath off...but i think i'm gonna restart and play the classic way. i've beaten the advance wars games so i feel pretty good about it.
I did too, but man... This takes most Predictable AI and throws that out the window, mostly anyway, to the point they're both predictable and unpredictable. Which, like it or not for me, is what I love to grit my teeth about fire emblem
CallofDutyBlackOps28 ok, i restarted the game on hard mode with permadeath on...and i've restarted a batlle on chapter 2 twice now because one of my characters keep dying and i just can't deal with the idea of her being gone forever lol. how many characters can you lose before the game is impossible?

Well, it really depends on which characters.
You lost lissa, right?
Keep her a bit away from your units, and keep those units away from enemies unless you can gang up using certain units
(Also, fredrick kinda sucks)
Micah Buzan sometimes it's more tactacle to let the enemy's attack first. (unless if they're sellswords who'll attack twice on you)
Getleveled Frederick is your salvation in Lunatic or Luna+tic

Whether she's good or not is irrelevant. She's a flier, which is always good to have in terrain-heavy maps, such as this one. She makes a great unit transporter in this chapter.

The point about Archers is super true. I had a hard time leveling up Virion in this game, but once I promoted him to a Bow Knight, he became absolutely amazing. And now he's on his second time as a Bow Knight (used a Second Seal to reset him after he hit Level 20) and has an A-rank in Bows and B-rank in swords, meaning legendary Bows and Silver Swords. Same thing goes for Mages. Miriel was so hard to use at first, but now her magic is through the roof and can kill most enemies in one round and very rarely does not double an enemy. Still pretty frail though after time as a Sage and a Troubador.
Anyway, the tips in this video are not really specific to Awakening and apply to every Fire Emblem game. I think the most important thing in Awakening is to look up what possible skills a given character can learn by becoming certain classes. There's so much variability in the characters that you can do anything you want. And don't get me started on the children characters....

I just got the game a few days ago and I LOVE IT! I thought at first I wouldn't know how to play, but after the first few battles, I'm thinking "Hey, this is almost like some other strategy games I play" and then it became pretty easy at that point. Thanks for these tips IGN and also, for people who have a 3DS and don't have FE: Awakening, get it.

I need a little help. Let's see my characters have leveled up to a certain spot in which now they can switch classes I want to buy weapons, but I'm not sure how the game menus in the shop work do you think you can do a tutorial on buying weapons?

So my question is pairing, the one person who's not set as main, they dont get xp at times if they dont get a hit. Should I just focus on leaving everyone separate unless needed?
Question as you can change class with a secondary seal can you use different weapons in different classes ig. a fighter using magic?
If Fredrick can damage an enemy without killing them then you can have weaker guys like Chrom finish them off

How to play awakening:
1. Just play Gaiden, Genealogy of the Holy War, Binding Blade, Blazing Sword/Blazing Blade/Fire Emblem 7, Sacred Stones, Radiant Dawn (If you really want to learn to play the hardest game in the series), Shadow Dragon (If you want classic FE), Shadows of Valentia (Gaiden Remake), or Path of Radiance (IMO the best game in the series).

Archers, from what I've heard, are generally obsolete in a lot of cases due to the existence of javelins and hand axes giving other bulkier units ranges options while also not making then completely vulnerable afterwards if they get attacked.

I cant believe i really suck at this game. im playing normal/casual and i lose units really fast i dont know how to improve im stuck at chapter 19 im also using that gold ball that changes my class i dunno if i should use it often so i can improve my stats and does someone know how to level up fast?
My archers and mages are ALWAYS in the back, I never throw them out front, they’re too valuable
Also, you’re taking valuable exp away from weaker units by having Fredrick at the front lines. I really only use him to get other characters across the map faster, but I benched him as soon as I had enough units.
Scrub Emblem: The N00bening
I usually use a "Turtle Defense" with most of my fights. Keep the heavy hitters up front and to the sides. Keep the healers just outside of the aggro area. Panne is my favorite person, because I have switched her to a Wyerven Rider. Keep in mind that the shape shifters do not have a ceiling like everyone else. Having a dancer in there will allow you to rotate people in and out of areas quickly. Walls and paremeters are you best friends in fights.
I find that if you have some characters that you don't really use and you're halfway through the game, pair them with some who could become their wife/husband/A-support, get 99+ reeking boxes and just go through the map over and over again and they will be tanks. Also the good thing about the risen that turn up at already completed levels is your get around 3-5 bullion (S) every time, which gives your soooo much gold.
Fred is actually lackluster when you get your units up to where he is.
Stahl: Cavelier->Great Knight
Stahl is better than Fred because he has been leveling up more, and therefore getting more stat increases,
Oddly enough, I recently found out you can second seal Frederick into a level 1 Great knight, and he keeps his 20 stats, giving him the chance to grow further.
wolfzx75 That applies to all characters. When they are max level, use a second seal.
wolfzx75 actually I find it better to reclass him to a base unit (after lv 15) this lets him get experience comparable to other units it should give him a good boost (unless he already capped stuff...)

I'm trying to use him as an asset, and I think it's working somewhat. His stats are worse than Donnel's, but meh. I can EXPonential growth him if I have to.

Fred not being as good as the rest is the point actually. He's an Oifey: A crutch character that's really good at the start but sucks later on. An Early-Game unit basically. He's especially useful in early Lunatic mode, where he's the only unit that can survive more than 2 hits from anything, but later on he shouldn't be focused on for units with more potential.

Mages are tricky to use at times, which is why Dark Mages, who have increased defense, are so useful. However, the nice thing about mage units is that they can strike from two squares away, and unlike archers, they deal magic damage, which is reduced by Resistance, not by Defense. Against most units, this means they will deal extremely high damage. And if you're super-worried, you can always pair them with a powerful defensive unit like Kellam to make them a little less squishy.
So I've been wanting to start a 3ds gaming channel for a while, does anyone know how ign recorded this? What technology do you need to buy to record this?

They're really expensive if you're not playing on normal. 4800 gold.
Buying reeking boxes are good, but if you want a specific challenge like,you want to fight a lvl 10 dark mage or you want to fight some knights, then I recommend the bonus teams
They're much higher in the harder modes.

Some people prefer to avoid the multiplayer components and the DLC since they imbalance the game. It's just a preference thing.
I'll be the first person to admit this. I love Fire Emblem, but if I try to play on any difficulty higher than the easiest one, I can't get very far before I get completely stuck. I'm one of those people that will restart a level as soon as I lose someone. I actually do utilize most if not all of the tips in this video. To take it a step farther, archers and mages are two of my favorite classes. That means I use them a ton.
Don't worry man, I used to be the same way, but I recently beat the game on hard-classic without Frederick and also VERY minimal grinding. You'll get better with more experience ;)
Obileo346 one of the strategies i use is to just step barely into 1-2 enemies ranges and lure them out of their spots so i can take them out safely without being in too much danger, of course this won't help on maps where enemies always rush you, but it will help for those maps with opponents who won't move until you come close

You can't be too afraid.
You must FIND an in-between.
Being too aggressive will get you killed.
Being too passive will get you in trouble.
I play with the rule with I won't let more than one person die a chapter. Though, technically that hardly EVER happens because usually when once someone goes, another goes. (At least for me) It's a big domino course. The death of one will topple over onto another.
Kind of sad, actually.
So when I play, either one dies, or we all get out safely. (Unless its someone I could care less about) then it doesn't apply.

Sorcerer has to be the most broken class in the game. With the proper skill level, Ruin and Vengeance are soooo prone to abuse. And if you start running low on health? Just spam Nosferatu!
The games about tactics, even though that's that, it's usually smart, and I'm sure most of them you want still alive though

I have other tips, use the restock function in the inventory menu it takes used from items in the convoy to refill used items and weapons, use terrain to make your evasion and defense higher, or to block the movement of enemies, pair up for extra defense, but unequip the partner if you don't want to kill enemies as they would overwhelm you if you did, see who can attack you on their turn and how much damage they could do and their hit rate, also use staffs lot, a rescue staff can save you
It's not just Exp during main battles that help level your characters up. The Extra Risen that pop up around your Map daily is a great way to level up your weaker characters, just make sure you check their weaponry and stock your weak characters up with Elixirs ext, and pair a strong-ish character up along with them to help support them. I find it's not really the 'Triangle' of weapons isn't really weak or strong anywhere. I've beaten the last like 28 soldiers and Walhart in Chapter 20 with Just Chrom and my Avatar, but I had chrom stacked up with stuff to boost his HP when it dropped to about 30, but if you level up normal characters like Chrom and your avatar to Max levels and use the Master Seal to turn Chrom into a Great Lord and stuff, it really does boost his power up. But personally I've only been playing the game almost a month now, and I prefer not to use Maribelle and Lissa, since I'd rather use someone like Cordelia and Anna who can attack and can carry things to boost their Hp.

Past FE titles are more like chess, Awakening isn't that require as much strategic thinking as old titles and considered one of the easiest in the series. If you have times try play old titles if you like strategy.
why sometime the one stay next to or behind you attack and sometime they just run forward and back like a dummy?

tomschrauwen They wouldn't be so bad if they spawned at the *end* of the enemy's turn instead of the beginning. I still haven't completed Laurent's paralogue because just when I get a chance to recover, enemy units spawn out of nowhere and wipe out someone fragile like Lissa or Say'ri. The whole spawning enemy thing is the reason I was stuck on Chapter 9 for a while.
Now try old FE titles, Awakening is one of the easiest game in the series :)
ATTENTION NEW FIRE EMBLEM AWAKENING PLAYERS! NEVER USE FREDRICK! His only use is if you're desperate in the first couple chapters! He gobbles up exp early, and is left behind in the later game!
For those that are playing on Normal Casual, if you are using Frederick in the early chapters, you're playing it wrong.

Actually, the "restock" option replaces a partly damaged weapon with an unused one (in your Convoy, of course).
Forgot one thing about gaining exp, you can go into the shops and buy a reeking box and use it bc it spawns some risen and depending on where you spawn them, that's their difficulty, like if you spawn them in chapter 1-2 area, super easy but later chapters it gets harder but if you do that long enough(I spent too much time on it) you get super stacked on 1. levels and 2. gold bc they drop a lot of gold so you can constantly buy them and reclass everything and 3. boss drops weapons, sometimes crappy and sometimes extremely rare. I reclassed my main character to most classes when I unlocked the option to buy second seals in stores and master seals. Also one thing to point out, I find it personally better(for your main character/avatar only btw) to use a second seal if you luckily find one in stores early on ASAP to mercenary class. Why? Because the skill Armthrift, helps so much bc you don't need to waste time buying new weapons in the future and let it bother you for your main character(if you want to get even more benefits, make your main characters better stat luck and weaker stat hp(thats what I did bc ik I won't die but it's risky in hard-lunatic mode) and it's fairly easy) If you already completed the game, you can go into your rewards box to collect some items to help you early on such as master seals, some useful weapons, and other stuff.

Olivia is a dancer, so she instantly gets good. Donnel has aptitude meaning high growth rates, meaning amazing. Libra is crap. Ricken is good. and the others depend on what you get.
but for me sully was just a better Stahl
Donnel has baby base stats while Libra can use the physic and rescue staff really well. If you want to argue about growths, don't forget that there is infinite growths in this game due to second seals and Libra can use magic in the game, which was broken.
Why did you say donnel is terrible
Donnel is actually a decent unit, given you baby him enough. Aptitude helps him grow his stats at a higher rate than other units so he'll be good early on. His high luck mixed with Armsthrift lets him use any weapon without wasting any charges.
Regretfully I didn't use Virion much after the beginning- I didn't pair him up with anyone and I got tired of how specific his range was too quickly. >>
I did use the mages a lot though- namely Ricken and Inigo who turned out to be rather bulky magic units for me.
In order to get Marth do you need the DLC, because at the moment she is fighting beside me but I cannot control her :/

Can you switch from Casual to Classic mid game? I never tried, but having nearly beaten the game I would recommend playing on casual up to Chapter 9 (when the story changes tone, and your guys are pretty well leveled up), and then switching to classic for the rest of the game.

Hey someone tell me! Should I ever use the second seal on players like Nowi? She's already at the last class when you get her, and once she reaches max lvl, there really isn't anymore room for growth :/ stats wise especially I mean!!

I noticed that too. It looks like their feet are clipped or glitched into the ground.
levelling up is a limited resource? but the reeking box item can be got for 500 and used for level grinding.
About the Archers couldn't you pair up Virion (Archer) with Fredrick (Great Knight) because great Knights will have good strength and defense
