  • 🦅 Ever wondered if you can pet a falcon? In today's video, we're diving into the fascinating world of falconry to answer that very question! Meet Dolph and Churro, our two adorable American Kestrel falcons, each with their own unique personalities and preferences when it comes to human interaction.
    👉 Dolph is an imprint bird, meaning he was raised by humans from a very young age. As a result, he's more comfortable with human touch and interaction.
    👉 Churro is a passage bird and she was captured from the wild as a juvenile. She has a different perspective on being petted and is generally more reserved.
    📌 What You'll Learn:
    - The difference between imprint and passage birds in falconry
    - How Dolph and Churro react to being petted
    - Tips for safely interacting with falcons

    That was definitely what I call "The biggest question that I needed to be answered"! So now, what's the solution to improve Churro's tolerance of you? Granted, its never going to be 100% like with Dolph, but I do believe having him hunt as a cast will help slightly! After spending many months in the wild out alone after he left on his own as a fledgling, he needs a partner on his side!
    Somewhere in the world, out of millions of Kestrels, there's Kestrels with thousands of different personalities, even though I'm sure most are the same, just fearful of people or just see them as a distraction! I don't know of any Falconers that have such a strong bond with any trapped bird of prey as you do with Dolph, but there's a few that came close! But these birds could have had some instance where someone were watching them up close while in the nest. Who knows how the birds built more tolerance, but I imagine the earlier you trap them, the more tolerant they'd be. The downfall to an early trapping would be that you'd have a bird that feels more needy when its hungry! It would be hard to convince a bird to leave the Falconer after releasing it!

    • @ComicusFreemanius
      @ComicusFreemanius ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Kestrels are the only _falcon_ that doesn't need telemetry because they don't chase things and they're too small to take off with food. Other birds you pretty much have to accept that one day they may fly off.

    • @bettysmith4527
      @bettysmith4527 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MrJavidac Imagine if he just let her be and let her continue being a wild bird, as it was intended. I think it's extremely cruel to capture a Wild bird and hold it in captivity for any length of time, unless it's injured obviously. We as humans are the most selfish animals on the planet, and this is proof!

    • @MrJavidac
      @MrJavidac 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bettysmith4527 falconry is facinating like this. You can't raise the birds, and you only capture them to give them the option to stay. If the bird doesnt like you, it can simply leave at any time while hunting. Any time shes released to hunt, she is free to leave, but they usually choose to come back as they are smart enough to know that a human hunting partner means easier access to food.

    I loved these types of birds all my life, have drawn many of them throughout the years. Anywho, I’ll be the next person to ask about the hood. I think we’re mostly approaching with an anthropomorphic view of the birds. We’re ascribing human characteristics where nature did not place them. If the hood was meant to be in the entelchy of a falcon, it would’ve been present in nature before we fashioned them. Maybe there’s an analogue, but I don’t know. So, discussion pertaining to how the birds evolve (from here) with their new apparatus is speculation, however well-intentioned it may be.
    Nature is a well-oiled machine, seems that we’re the stick in the gears.
