Bought my Telstar online based largely on this review. Had it for just over a year and like it better every day. Thanks John for the best online reviews.
Love these rig rundowns and gear reviews. On this channel and others. I’m a drummer and sometimes don’t have a clue what some of the real technical talk means. But I love Johns enthusiasm and really pleasant vibe while interviewing. Great channel. Greetings from Scotland.
I’ve owned a Carr Rambler for almost 20 years. For the way these amps are constructed the price tag is very reasonable in my opinion. Carr amps make guitar playing fun and exciting.
Hey I've been thinking about this Love the tube design Gives those 6L6's a little growl on top Nice Oh yeah let me know if it's a keeper I just got a Tone King Gremlin head and 1/12 But damn if it didn't blow a PT in no time Out on warranty repair now Will see 🙈
Any more info to share after you got the telstar. How well does that power scaling attenuator work? You getting great tones like what you hear in videos?
@@keithbriscoe99 For a period of time, I ran a Strat directly into the amp with no pedals. And that was my sound! I’ve recently sold all my tube amps to buy a Quad Cortex. These days (with two kids under 2) I play after they go to sleep.
Sounds great! John, your playing just seems to get more enjoyable all the time -- tasty, pretty, musically interesting, and with a sense of humor. Love it!
Love Carr amps. I have a HammerHead MkII with a 2x12 Eminence cab, but unfortunately it will blow all the walls out of your house if you don't put an attenuator on it.
Seems like an interesting design for sure, cool idea running 2 different power tubes. Undeniably sounds great! One thing though, in an amp like this, are they using "Class A" as a fancy way of saying cathode bias (two completely different things), or do both tubes truly conduct 100% of input when it's turned up loud? Becha it's the former. If they're shooting for the asymmetrical properties, why not go ahead and call it Class AB? AB doesn't sound as high-grade as A, but surely a bit of class AB crossover distortion won't hurt! 😉
Is this a hybrid amp? All I see is info about the tubes in the output section, but nothing about the pre-amp. I have an old Vox VT-15 hybrid that actually sounds quite good, especially for the price I paid back in the day. If this is a hybrid, I can't tell the difference - it sounds great.
I'm kinda diggin this over the Merc V if you have a bunch of killer pedals...and need to go from Knopfler circa '85 to TOOL to DOOM via SUNN O))) using pedals...hmmm
This right here would explain why I'm not that fond of Bolinger as an interviewer, his time is spent being a bad ass cat on the guitar. Damn. He is clearly at home playing the gear and reviewing it himself.💪
I love that feeling of playing a great guitar or amp (or pedal?), just keep wingin' it, John. Your chops and musical vocabulary are a treat to me (55+ years as a pro). Haters have to come out of their shitholes periodically...… LOL Nice sounding amp! Didn't the Egnater Rebel have 6V6 and EL84 with a blend knob? Seems right, but …..
@@johnbohlinger Yeah I noticed how clean it is plus Clarence's was like a double body that Marty has now. Was into Sweetheart of the Rodeo from the get go. Dave Edmonds had a good feel for it too.
They have a mic on the amp, and they have a mic on the camera or in the room. When there is just playing and no talking, they fade down the room microphone, and when the talking starts, they fade it up. So, if the reverb trail is still happening, but the dude starts talking, the reverb trail gets picked up by the room mic as it's trailing off.
for a little 17 watt amp this thing is a rip off sure it sounds good theres amps that sound great for hella cheap compared to almost 3 grand for a 1 trick pony like this
You can get Blackface, Tweed, Vox and Marshall tones out of this amp...I know because I own it. But ok, one-trick pony, right. Thank you for your uneducated opinion.

I miss the drum machine, John! Let's bring it back!

This amp is DOPE! I wish I could afford the price tag
Update: two years of saving and I just bought this!

Do you still have the Telstar?

@@gbc77000 No. I sold all my tube amps and went digital. Maybe someday when my kids are older I will get another!
That gretsch with the vertical logo on the headstock, it's the little things, oh and that great gretsch sound doesn't hurt either
Sounds great! John, your playing just seems to get more enjoyable all the time -- tasty, pretty, musically interesting, and with a sense of humor. Love it!
WHAT A GREAT LOOKING AND SOUNDING AMP!!!
One of Each Tube. Sounds Great. Sweet Tones.
It's about time we get to see what this dudes made of! Bravo my friend
Great review John, great playing. Love your interviews and reviews!
Badass playing, and kickass tone. COWABUNGA!
Just Wow, great sounds, fantastic guitarist.
John loves his teles! "Should we try some humbuckers?" :pulls out tele with humbuckers:
Love mine it’s one of the best amps I’ve ever owned
6L6 and EL84 in class A. Cats and dogs living together, oh my!
Had a friend who put together a Pan Head and Knuckle Head on a Harley, and somehow made it work.
Like the sound of this amp!
John you are Damm good player... love watching you play....and love all the reviews you do
Darn..John !!! You really killed it at the opening...fun stuff !!!

Mesa Blue Angel has 2 6v6 and 4 el84 tubes, which you can run together. This Telstar sounds amazing though.
Are the tone knobs/faceplate glow in the dark with that green hue?!
I think I know the song John plays at 8:40 and it's driving me crazy trying to name it. Anyone know? (Or was his just improvising and I'm wrong?)
I think its Oh Darling
I can't stop Loving You.. The old classic country song that Ray Charles covered back in the day.
@@johnbohlinger Thank you! I can sleep well tonight now.
Its sounds cool but the design was somehow inspired by an office copier ?
It's plain as day when Bollinger really digs the stuff he's reviewing vs. just phoning it in. He clearly digs the Carr.
No Jr.?! SAD PANDA Is the description meant to say 60's Gretsch?

Interesting now too players are mixing speakers in cabs Makes sence for something different I'm tempted to look deeper Great John
Awesome review!
Amazing player; amazing amp; amazing tones..... love it.
Another very well built beautiful sounding $2500 boutique tube combo amp.....how do they all stay in business?
Insane opening!!!

He mentioned it had a 12AX7, a 12AT7, and a 6SL7. These are the preamp tubes, enough to make a whole guitar preamp. Can't imagine it'd be hybrid.

Where can we get the signature shoes
John obviously a fan of the hellecasters . I heard the quote your were playing
GREAT VID!!!
Black Falcon, LP Junior...same thing.
that tele is gold with the bee benda... thats Country!
Johnny B. Bender. Well Played Sir.
Anyone know what pick John uses?
I use V picks. Love them
Cool thank you. Which model/thickness?

So aquatic
Why does he "tape" his left shoe?
We need the story on that Tele he's playing please.
1967 Custom w #00076 B-bender. Love it
@@johnbohlinger I love a double bound Tele!! That thing is the TOPS! Love your work dude. Thanks for the reply!
Are those Howard Finsters in the corner?
Yes, old ones from the mid 90s.
anyone know what slide John uses? hes awesome
Thanks. I use mostly Dunlop or D'Addario glass slides like the old C bottles

I like your amp
The " Dander Zone" is where it's at!
Drum MACHINE!...???
Yikes, this amp sounds really good to me.
This is actually impressive as a dirty amp
Dig your B Bender Tele John. Did you know know back in the day Peppy Marcello of The Good Rats put duct tape on his sneaker also 😎
LOL.
