This is one of many examples of why Daze with Jordan the Lion is hands down 'the best of the best' TH-camr. I'd never heard of Mabel Normand or Desmond Taylor after watching this I had to know more. Thank you Jordan for all the work you put into each episode. Another FANTASTIC EPISODE ( vlog - done so well it's better than anything on network tv )
I love your passion and enthusiasm for Old Hollywood
Her home where she lived as a young girl on staten island is still there.
The home she brought for her parents is still there too. Thank you Jordan.
Jordan: Thanks for doing a vlog on Mabel and her home!!!!! Your the best! She was a legend of the silver screen. The first woman of comedy in Hollywood and still the best, a writer, director, studio owner all in a male dominated industry. By 1917 only Woodrow Wilson was more popular than her. Her drug use was greatly exaggerated, 3 of her brothers and sisters died in childhood of TB. I am so glad she lasted to give us, and world her tremendous gift and talent. Mickey and the The Extra Girl are my favorites of hers.
+Traveling with Rick I'm glad you enjoyed it!
You did her justice. The stills were wonderful.
Thanks Jordan. The story of Mabel Normand always fascinated me
SO great! Since the Mabel Normand vlog you recently did, I never got to see this one! WOW! Another great one!! I love this one, too! Mabel Normand was such whirlwind! WOW! SO young, and so talented, WOW! The home she owned is so beautiful!! I would love to tour it!! Ty for doing this on Mabel's and such interesting about the Harold Lloyd home! WOW! Love all the stories and tell tales!! Ty!! This weekend I am watching Mickey!!!!
Thanks for being a bright light in a dreary world! Look forward to your vlogs each day.
You too Jen
I've probably seen Mabel Normand in a film or two when I was young. I grew up watching silents on The Saturday Afternoon Matinee. She is certainly pretty!
Thank you for your fascinating videos about Mabel! Just a side note, my lovely grandmother (dec) was the pianist for the local movie theater for the silents!
She would have loved you, your vlogs & Jah too!
I have a coffee table book someone gave me years ago and it has pix of all the silent movie stars in it. Harold Lloyd had a Chinese inspired den in his home and it was beautiful even in black and white. I'll have you know that for the last 2 nights, I have binged on your vlogs for 7 hours! I am so lad I found you and love your content and your thoroughness and attention to detail. Loved hearing about silent movie stars. They fascinate me. Thank you for this! Give Jah a hug and kiss. Love our furbabies.
man what a story she was an awesome actress thank you mr. Jordan
Wow! What a life Mabel Normand had.
She fitted a lot in her 38 years.
It's amazing what went on in the old days.
Much the same as these days.
Great vlog Jordan really interesting. Thank you.
What a lovely chap you are. Always bringing such great history and you are always so upbeat. Love your vlogs from here in the U.K they are always so interesting not forgetting that cute little doggie of yours.
I'm watching this again! Some of these, I really enjoy THAT MUCH ! I wish California would have put some kind of protection on these old Hollywood Glam homes of movie stars. We don't see things comparable in today's homes. We couldn't afford to build like that today. It was a different time, I guess.nothing compares to it today. They can't be replaced now.
Really interesting vlog! Mabel Normand was beautiful but oh dear what a tumultuous life! And to think she died at 38! Glad you got to see Harold Lloyd's fabulous house and describe it for us!
I like your Lego watch. That's really cool. Your vlogs are really interesting, I enjoy watching all of them. Keep the good work.
Jordan, you could do a blog about a bug crawling across your floor and find a way to make it interesting. Wow, I always wanted to see Tom Hanks in person. great video as always.
mabel norman is buried where my grandparents are buried at calvery cementery thank you for showing us her mansion beautiful
At the 5 minute mark, That's Charlie Chaplin not Max Sennett. Xx
Lol, my parents used to say that to me. I only know because I'm a huge fan :-)
Geraldine Jayne yea I recognized that photo as Charlie immediately also. I’m a huge fan as well
Glad this one popped up to watch again....always a good thing to re-watch old vlogs.
This is great! Thanks, Jordan. I just recently discovered Mabel Normand. I remember my grandmother talking about her many years ago. I just looked up the sanitarium to find out where it was.
The photo you showed and said was Mack Sennett is Charlie Chaplin.
Yep
I noticed that too!
4:58 That wasn't Mack Sennett behind the camera. It was Charlie Chaplin.
Thank you. I just discovered you yesterday. So I have so much to catch up on. I going between current and past. Congratulations on the new home. It's beautiful. And the colors are so bright and happy.
Thanks, never knew much about Mabel Normand. Such a sad tragic life.
Love all your old hollywood videos!!! And love Jah. Thank you for taking your time to do this! Im hooked!
great vlog... I especially like the scoop on Lloyd's old estate. To think it's only 1/3 of it's original size in terms of acreage.
I enjoy your videos ...very informative. Thank you for doing what you do. It shows you have real passion
Youre welcome
Just LOVE your old Hollywood vlogs, Jordan.....and ESPECIALLY love your sweet baby, Jah. He is so cute!
+Jill Koop thanks
WOW! The anterior architectural design of Mabel's home looked very impressive. To have the money to buy and maintain a house like Mabel's has to be a nice financial ability.
Looks a bit of mishmash now
Thank you for this video! I love the neighborhood shots. And I just loooove everything Old Hollywood! Have taken some of the tours, and yeah, it's just a really cool place. ♥️ Thank you.
It's very clear to me how much hard work you put into choosing a location for your daily vlogs, doing the background research, filming, editing, and publishing these mini masterpieces. I really appreciate the time you take to produce your entertaining vlogs day after day after day..... Keep up your great work because I really think you are going to eventually realize great rewards for what you are doing here 🎥🎥📽️📽️🎬
I love your truck impersonation, LOL! It seems like the sun and walking plus serving in church makes you feel better. That is so encouraging to me! Thank you for these wonderful vlogs and for showing how Jah is a blessing!
My gggf and ggggf both died of TB around the same time as Mable. My great grandmother lived 45 years longer than my gggf. TB took so many people way too soon back then.
Great storytelling as always, J. Yep, Tom Hanks - nicest guy in town. The Jimmy Stewart of our times.
Harold Lloyd was for one year, 1949-50, the Imperial Potentate of Shriners. The head of all Shriners. He was the Imperial Potentate where you catered at.
Gorgeous house !!!
Thanks so much for making these vlogs for all us old Hollywood fanatics! You will be rewarded one day for your efforts. We love you!
you missed playing Stevie Nicks song about Mabel(probably the only one)
Very interesting again. Seems like the old time actors had more twisted dark stories than some of the actors of today. Lol. Very fascinating
Wow. Your job has its perks, you see all the stars and hear awesome music.
She is so pretty, I love to see your vlogs on old time hollywood stars
Very awesome ❤ never seen this one we got a two in one here 👍 Great vlog
Thanks Jordan ,I like the houses
Enjoyed again Jordan
Very interesting. How exciting to see such big stars. The biggest star of the vlog...Jah👍💚. Thank you
Huge Mabel fan. Beautiful pics of her. Thanks.
Big fan of your adorable roommate, such a sweet doggie.
Just one thing...Charles Dana Gibson was an illustrator....I don't think he's known for photography.
Her films were banned in Ohio ( I think) after the back to back scandals...so ridiculous!
I love this blog!
A nice compact house - not exactly a Beverley Hills mansion, but then Mabel wasn't a mansion girl. Until she bought this one (for 20k) she always rented. The rear isn't exactly private, so Mabel always used Nazimova's pool - of scandalous parties fame. How about making a tour of the Mabel Normand Studio on Fountain Ave? (now called The Mack Sennett Studios!).
+Kel Boyce I've contacted that studio numerous times about touring it on FOUNTAIN. They absolutely will not respond no matter how I contact them
What a great vlog! I have always loved reading about the lives of silent film stars. Mabel Normand is one whose life has always fascinated me, but such a sad one. Thanks for telling us about Green Acres and how cool that you were able to be there because of your job. Thanks as always for all the fantastic vlogs and your hard work in bringing them to us!
I thought GreenAcres was torn down years ago. He was born in Nebraska and his childhood home is still there in Burchard, with a museum inside. 🤓
great job Jordon this is awesome dude
AWESOME VLOG!!!!!! Was very happy to hear that Mabel came from Staten Island. That is where I live. She died so young. Very sad. I love hearing about your catering jobs. It must be hard work but to see Julia, Tom and Goldie. AWESOME!!! Love them!!
And I just love seeing my buddy Jah. He is one happy doggie.
Peace to ya both!!!
I loved her movies so much. I wish things would have ended better for her. Great vlog.
I'm impressed that even though I grew up in Hollywood and am almost 60 you still seem to have learned a lot more about it than I have. I had to laugh @ the 4:05 mark when you said thank you to the Sacramento Kings for missing the free throws. I have no idea what made you say that but, I'm thinking it has to be reference to the 2001 playoffs where the Kings lost to the Lakers. Every time I hear a Kings fan say the refs handed game 6 to the Lakers I have to remind them the Kings only made 16 of 30 free throws in game 7 and that doesn't win championships. One more FT and no O.T. and most likely NBA Championship.
Love the silent stars of old Hollywoodland. Thank You so much Jordan!
Another awesome flog thanks Mr. Jorden
This is so fascinating. You are so through with your background information, Thank you❣️
Tha k you
Didn’t really know a lot about her background, but this was fascinating. Sad to die so young. Love your vlogs!!
Another great vlog!! Thanks so much!!!
Loved this one Jordan as I love all of your vlogs, have to say the old Hollywood ones are my very favorites! Thank you for all of the work you put into them, happy to be a patreon!
+Kathleen Farrell thank you!
Great video, very informative and great detail. Stunning Mansions and gardens
Excellent video, Jordan!! Thanks man!
thanks Jordan!! such a sad story on mabel. have a few books on her, but never saw her house!!! many thanks. bought picture frame from the gift shop that closed. sad.
+melodie shorey thanks
First, I did some research on Mabel. One documentary did not even mention the vase incident, but focused more on the the 2 murders. Who knew?
Second, you have an amazing job in the catering business. Wow. Amazing. Thanks, Jordan!
Laura the Hermit 🕊
Sad, but inspirational. What we know is fame is fleeting.....
wow what a story thanks mr. jordan
Oh man, that leaf blower was annoying. I could tell you were trying to speak above it. Ha!
Great vlog.
Been reading Chaplin’s autobiography and he talks about Mabel a lot and it’s with fondness.
She seems quite interesting and I’ll have to learn more.
Thanks Jordan.
I really enjoy these vlogs. I love old Hollywood history & Los Angeles and you always have some awesome stories to share. You're awesome!
I remember the earlier ones that shop was amazing ! Pity it went ; there were so many beautiful things there . Poor Mabel :( she seemed to walk into these scandals :( What a lovely house she lived in Beverley Hills . Hope the date went well . The green acres estate sounded lovely ; wow love Coldplay and Chris Martin ; you have a great job lol Tom Hanks 😂😂 love him great actor ! 👍🏻💙🎬🎥😎🦁🐶👍🏻
I doubt if Mabel killed Desmond. Someone came in or was already hiding in her house and killed that man. Mabel went down for the fall. It could have been Mack Sennett himself. He knew how to get in her house without the chauffeur or her there!
Taylor was not killed in Mabels house. Mabel did not take 'the fall' for his murder. Mabels career was affected by her proximity to back to back scandals and her continuing fight with worsening Tuberculosis. Her usage of drugs/drink and hard partying all attributed to a gradual diminishing career. She retired from films in '26. At 38 in 1930 she died after being in a TB sanitorium for a year.
Rumor has it that Mary Miles Minter's mom killed him. Mary was in love with William but her mom hated him. She didn't want to lose her meal ticket, (Mary), and killed him. William didn't love Mary.
Always good stuff Jordan.
Thumbs up
+Dive Bar Casanova thank you
Love that watch Jordan !!!!
Thanks-. I'm STILL catching up on all your vlogs and they are ALL great! You are a wealth of Hollywood information. I love all the old Hollywood and up into about the 60s. You should do bits in documentaries as a Hollywood Historian. I really appreciate all you do. It c ant be easy or always fun, but you are so enthusiastic and make your videos like we all are walking along with u ou without leaving our own b houses! I've never been to Cali, so this is such a treat to do so vicariously and with someone who knows their way around! They are all great! I n truly wish you and Jah all the best, always, and your friends are also, all good people, and may God bless you all. Ty
great story😎
Wow who knew?? Thanks, Jordan, gee some folks want stir the pot and some folks fall in the pot!! Yikes!!
So take care, be safe🌸🌼🌺🌻🌻👩🏻💻
Jah is just too cute!
Years ago, i read a story about a drug dealer to the stars in those days called 'Dracula', any information on this?
Great video Jordan!
+Zipperdork thanks
Hi 👋...you don't know me but I been watching your videos through the year's maybe 5 or more..anyways just checking in to see how the doggie doing !?
He's doing great!
@DazewithJordantheLion that's great news really. 😀 Thanks for making entertaining videos for everybody to watch and enjoy.
Another great video.
@ 12:37 Maybe back then the population was scarce, or the pic in black and white doesn't do her justice. Barring that, "What the hell was all the hub-bub?".
So interesting, thanks
Don't quite knw how 2 word it but actors en actresses bak thn had smethn u dont c these daes. Guess mayb it was more raw en natural. G8 way of seeing the stars Jordan another awsome experience.
fyi- Stevie Nicks did a song MEBEL NORMAND on her most recent solo CD 24 KARAT GOLD.
Oh, dude! You should have bid on the lunch with Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. No telling how many killer vlogs you could do from just that lunch alone! Lloyd's estate sounds fabulous!
If i was working as a caterer I CLEARLY couldn't afford that..
@@DazewithJordantheLion Oh right... Oops! 🤦
As soon as I win powerball I am buying her house. 😄
you are a video historian. you do a great job with the background information and the video recording of these locations. You never know how long some of these locations will exist. I really enjoy learning about Hollywood. I look forward to your videos every day. Thank you Jordan.
harrold llyd was an avid 3d photographer and had a hollywood club for that he was active in. you can get a coffee table book of his 3d photos. id try berazin3d on line to find it. he also used to keep a christmas tree up year round-fully decorated.
Great video.
Jordon - be sure to check out Stevie Nicks’ song about Mable Normand - it’s awesome!!
Life career filled unfortunate controversy so sad poor woman 😢
Old and New Hollywood is represented nicely here. I hope you got to at least meet a celebrity.
Great Channel. Would you do a video about Tallulah Bankhead.
Good video, but the Mabel story is much more complicated than that (!!). Once the most photographed girl in the world, now the most written about girl. How about a video of the Mabel Normand Studio on Fountain Ave - timber construction, but still there.
Love your early Hollywood vlogs. I get to learn about actors/actresses that I'm not familiar with.
You are the Good Will Ambassador of California!
Mabel might have been the most scandalous star ever!
Ms. Normand died in scandal, as well, but I'll leave that story up to you. ;)
Scandals seem to follow some people.. sounds like she partied hard. What a great memory to have. Seeing all the stars. But mainly the home of, one of the greatest. Shame you couldn't vlog it. And not forgetting Jah.
Good video :)
This looks like Norma Desmond's place....
I'm kind of new to your channel, who is pollyanna?
Pollyanna is Jah's (the dog) girlfriend and they have play dates. Little doggie gets so excited!
