Next you have to figure out what you want from Jan to June. I think Gwen, Gem and Pinkerton would all be good. In SoCal there is Sharwil which is a B which is good. Up here Jim Bacon is also a reliable B and a smaller tree than Bacon and a little tastier but a very different flavor from Hass so you may want to try them first. I like variety so my tastes might be different.
Just remembered! Palo D'Oro could be an excellent spring choice. I haven't had them yet but I have seen photos on how productive they are. Also SC or Santa Clara Gold is gaining popularity as a January to June tree.

On the other hand if you are located somewhere where Fuerte doesn't do well and you want/need that type of flavor I might go JB. In the end I think it is about what you love to eat.

Great review, JB is indeed wonderful, but for me Pinkerton hangs on the trees much longer, as does Lambs, and even GEM...and this is what I want, long hang time.

I completely agree! In fact my Carmen wasn't growing so I went Hass in large part because the hang time
Mexicola is the gets a free pass but JB can slide too
