I came to this realisation about barbells myself with my clients that I train. A lot of them do NOT have the mobility to get under the bar and may never. I have achieved success with them with dumb bells and improving their technique and getting them stronger. Really interesting interview :)

I feel like the military has used zone 2 training for a long time. Every once in a while we would sing cadence during runs while also having balls to the walls runs.
I don't care what he says dropping a ton of calories causes muscle loss, happened every time I tried. Love training barefoot but it had no positive effect on training. I did it because my feet were killing me from standing on concrete all day. So going barefoot made that pain go away. Nasal breathing does nothing for training. Sometimes we are always looking for some cool stuff to get better, which I a smart thing to do but unless it takes you toward your goals then it's a distraction.

I appreciate Eugene's knowledge and experience in the fitness space, but when he got to the dieting portion of the episode I felt like it went off the rails. The method of extreme dieting he's describing is not appropriate for 99% of people. Nsima gave a bit of pushback and tried to clarify some points about this leading to binge behavior, etc but I was put off by how quiet the rest of the guys were. It's ok to engage and debate with guests guys
It's really not as extreme as it sounds. Here's the cliff notes if it sounded a bit outlandish in the discussion - If you have a ton of body fat, you can afford to diet harder. If you have less (or as you get leaner throughout a diet), you can't. So you shouldn't. Otherwise you're probably more prone to a lot of the negative metabolic adaptations as described in much of Herman Pontzer's work 😊
Good point. However, he actually mentioned two or three times that it's not for everybody and that he can do it because he doesn't have an emotional attachment to food/eating.
@@JeeYaoKuneDo He did get there you're right, but I was more trying to make the point that Mark/Nsima are responsible for communicating for their audience and thought they as hosts should have participated more actively in the discussion. I don't know many people who have the kind of detached food relationship that Eugene experiences, but I do know lots of folks who are delusional or desperate enough to think they do. This is 100% no hate on ET, this method would/does work. But it's ELITE level fat loss dieting and this show is a gen-pop thru elite audience.

I've previously worked as a coach, helping people with fatloss through gradual habit change and letting go of a dichotomous mindset about food and health (and hopefully guilt + shame + other self-sabotaging thought patterns). Have even had a few cases of clients with BED. So I can attest the the fact that aggressive approaches are not for people who already struggle psychologically with body image and have an unhealthy relationship with food. It would be like throwing a boomerang. To your point about communicating to a broad audience, you're also right. It's only fitting that the hosts ensure a nuanced view - by even playing the devil's advocate. Too many podcasts are just the host and the guest nodding in agreement and confirming their common bias, lol. Funny enough, it's actually the lack of high-level critical thinking that made me stop listening to this podcast. I only clicked because of Teo. It's really cool that Mark and Nsima are so open-minded, genuinely nice guys and eager to learn. However, all too often, they seem to be enchanted by their guest's flawed logic and kool-aid. Same reason I don't care much for Joe Rogan. A lot of pseudo-scientific figures get a lot of airtime.

And the reason I stopped listening was definitely their lack of questioning of quack-ish guests and their seeming willingness to allow bad or unproven info to be spouted as fact. It's all well and good that they want to be open minded, but there's some stuff where they should, and most likely do know better.
He has above average test levels after 4 weeks on 1200 calories. Of course he is indifferent but try being 250-300 ng/dl and tell me then if you're indifferent. If you don't think that the fatigue that your feeling is it because you're that low or because that's how you'd suppose to be. Or if you have memory loss, or trouble concentrating, aches and pains an so on at 30 yo. Great podcast but that part of the podcast is definitely not the reality because he has probably never felt that. But if you're low you definitely obsess over that number. And the worst part is that a lot of doctors just lack so much knowledge on this subject.
It works bro, if ur doing calf raises, add tib workouts inand it’ll take ur calfs to next level. Its also beneficial if you sprint in whatever activity you choose
@@UnknownLifter Calories do provide energy. I believe the thought is if you're in a calorie deficit, your body will provide energy from your body fat if you have enough of it. If you find yourself very fatigue, you need to reduce your workload or increase your calories. That's managing your energy.
the line of you can't have all the nutrients you need on only 1000 calories, really drives home how leanness can be genetic, like some ppl might need to only eat 1000-1200 calories or they'll gain weight, yet it's not enough to have adequate nutrients.
