Gfriend is an incredible group. They come from humble beginings, through a small company that no one knew. They came out with an innocent cutesy concept that was common for the time but they made it their own with their powerful choreography and unique sound in their music. While Gfriend is still not talked about much internationally, they have been big in Korea for years. Their songs chart on the music charts, they sweep music show wins (they have the 4th most wins for a girl group), they appear regularly at year end award shows, and they did all that despite not coming from a large known company. They're up there with Red Velvet, Twice, and Blackpink who come from the Big 3 companies. Recently they have started too show a more mature side of them since they are older now, and I think the newer sound is bring in more international fans now, but they're still just as amazing of a group they were before. Gfriend is a monster of a group that shouldn't be underestimated.
Also side note, their company Source Music, did merge with Big Hit last year so they're now a subsidary of Big Hit, but they are still signed under Source Music and are still managed by them.

Gfriend is a 6 member girl group from Sourcemusic which became a Sub Label of BigHit (BTS Company) in 2020. The producers of the song are the CEO of BigHit and Producers who work for BTS and TXT.
Gfriend is the first (and until today) the only Idol group under Sourcemusic. So they had no senior who could help them or hype them up. The company back then war really poor, the CEO even sold his house just so they can debut. Thank god they had some Hit songs in Korea and became more and more successful (they still had a very hard time because of some envy people). Over the years Gfriend grew and the company and they really have a family relationship and I'm so happy about that. When Gfriend debuted their concept was powerful innocent then they tried some things and since 2018 their main concept was melancholy but in summer they try different concepts that suit their grow and age.
Now they have winr 100 music shows award if combined and over 700.000 sales overall.

The concept is confident/modern witches. Mago means wizard/magician in Italian/Spanish, which they are actually referring to the female version of a wizard, "Witch" in this song and how the term "witch" is typically referred to in a negative context in society. In this song, they are presenting witches in a new light. Where witches/women are empowering and confident and they choose to live as they please and no longer care about what people think. Hence "go on and judge me now" and "Hakuna Matata" meaning no worries for the rest of your days. The song is so catchy and good and has such an amazing message in it. The music video shows scenarios where people would look down on women, yet they're showing it in a positive light as something they choose to do and rewriting the narrative.
I think the lyrics "her smiling at me in the mirror" and "in the blessed flame I fly reborn" could be referring to the women who were burned on the stake in the past because of their suspicious or questionable behavior and people thought they were witches. Seeing these girls in modern times living their lives without hesitation and doing as they want, those women whose lives were sacrificed in the past would be happy to see women this day and age taking their power back.

some intl kpop fans might not agree but theyre one of the biggest girlgroup in korea. their biggest song was me gustas tu. every korean knows that song, like if u hear that song in a cafe in south korean they'll sing onneulbutteo urineun at the top of their lungs. their company was as poor as bighit back then, now that bighit has been starting to go up, bighit's ceo who is a close closeee friend of their ceo now add them under the bighit label. bighit invest on them, give them money and promote them better, and now the members also bighit's ceo are participating in the album. all of the members. actually, theyre known for their sync while dancing, and their vocals. like the sixth of them can be main vocal if theyre in other groups. when the main vocal was absent, the sub vocal took her part. yes, not even the lead vocalist that took her part, the sub vocalist took the highest note of the main vocal. theyre just that talented.
