I was ready for the teenage stage and expected it. We train every day of our dogs lives and even though it was frustrating it was alot less so because I knew it was coming.
My lab passed through it in months whereas my 5 year old Australian Shepherd is a perpetual teenager and will always have to be closely watched. He knows what he’s supposed to do but argues about everything.

Will, YOU are a fantastic human, dog trainer and dog behaviourist !!!! And you are totally correct!!! I made the HUGE error of giving my 18 month old GSD too much freedom from 4 months on. I know have a highly socialized dog who LOVES other dogs, people and everything else but sees me as his provider, not owner. We are having the worst time of training "heel" but, since I'm an old lady and know that every dog eventually, YES, gets it, and gets it all, keeps me engaged, training and loving my absolutely loving dog.....PS: Due to the over-socialization, he is PERFECT with other dogs and people..NOT a mean bone in his body..........................

This is such wonderful advice! I feel very fortunate to have found your videos before getting my Rottweiler. I got him when he was 16 weeks old and "started as I mean to go on" like you so wisely put it. My boy is now 10 months old and has come so long with his obedience. He's not at 100%, but that's ok. We still do training drills and 2-3 walks every day, and now trying to proof his skills in different environments each week.
My biggest challenges are engagement and our bond. He's still intact and incredibly independent (I think I picked the Alpha pup by mistake). However, as he ages, I see him looking to me more for guidance and our bond improving. I owe so much thanks to you, Will! ❤

I had a Rottweiler male from he was 8 weeks old and quickly realised that I needed help. Long story short, in my experience, the worst thing you can do with a teenage Rottweiler and probably any dog, is to challenge their behaviour. IE they won’t listen to a perfectly well trained command. Instead distract with their favourite toy and after a little playtime, finish with a little obedience. When their teenage behaviour is challenged, you unintentionally enforce it. By distracting, it’s being left unstimulated and not developed. I’m not a trained professional and always listen to those that know better.
Dog less at the moment, just waiting for the next one to find us.

@@olewurtz7625 I know what you mean. Rottweilers play rough. If you get rough when they do something bad, they think it is "game on", LOL.
Positive punishment = leash tap corrections when he sometimes goes in front of me on walks (usually he corrects himself then he gets...)
Positive reinforcement - treats, praises, tug, and/or pets when he makes right choices on his own or demonstrates desirable behavior.
Negative punishment - removing something he wants (such as flipping his new raised bed upside down so he can't put his ball underneath and scratch and jump on top of bed to get it - better than removing ball.) Stopping play if he jumps on me or nips.
Negative reinforcement - moving further away from the big garbage truck he thinks is a monster. We get a little closer each week.
I hope your new pup finds you soon. There's so many to love out there.

Thanks for another stellar video! My doggo is a teenager now, and definitely pushes boundaries.. But we're doubling down, and he's getting better again.

my Cane Corso is in the teenage phase (19 months)… I train her every single day, but I still expect her to do at least one thing a day that she isn’t supposed to😂💯

I love your videos and the clear way of guiding owners. It is really not rocket science to end up with e happy, nicely behaving, friendly and easy controlable 4 feet friend. I think the most important element is consequence. The dog one days has understood that there is no way around the owners will

I have 3 dogs, 2 yr old Lab a 2 1/2 yr old Lab and 2 1/2 yr old Corso. We walk 2 times a day and train every day, weekends and holidays included. They are well behaved and well socialized. Couldn't agree more with never take your foot off the gas.

I just started leaving my almost 3 bloodhound out of the crate at night while we got to bed, but we eased into that a little at a time. Does he wake me up about 3am to go outside yes, does he get into the trash or destroy things no.

Thanks for the great advice. Our Lab is 20 months old and is still being drilled daily with the basics and is enjoying some freedoms. He has been pushing boundaries during his pack walks with a dog walker. We reckon it’s due to the hormones and feeling more secure with his pack. We will reinforce the basics and scale back the freedoms for a bit.

My dog is in the teenage phase😩 9 months old. Hes a border collie/heeler/catahoula/pointer mix and nonstop energy. I work with him every day and play with him 3 times(or more) a day, trying to wear him out. He's the sweetest boy, one minute, then Satan's spawn the next🤣 I can tell he's going to be a great dog though😊 Thanks for all the training tips!

We had Two boxer brothers from pups as soon as the pup comes in to the house you need to set the rules and those rules last till they cross the bridge.
Knowing your breed and tailoring your training to the breed helps. But your everyday constant rules will never change and if your are consistent it helps your dog have a happy life.
I see so many people on phones will walking the dog get off ya phone and interact with them.
We did training agality brain games hikes in the country beach rambles but the two things that they needed was the drop command it saves there lives and chill if a dog can’t chill and relax its constantly on an urgent note.
We had lost Henry and diesel was in palliative care so I dropped all the rules he was 13 and went through his adolescent stage to the point my vet who had done puppy class with us was laughing saying dd was naughty and he was so happy as my dogs were always perfect hehe.
No dog is perfect but as owners we set them up to succeed or fail.
I would love a dog but my life does not allow it and a dog comes first. Having a dog is a privilege not a right give them the best lives by helping them to be the best they can be dog ownership is more than feeding and cuddles.

My husband decided to get a cane corso as his first dog. HUGE MISTAKE! Because he works, I'm the one here with her 12+ hours a day, and I'm struggling!!! She's now 6 months, and I'm rethinking my life decisions 🤦🏽‍♀️ So, am I to understand that it gets worse 😳

Good to see a Canadian flag hanging. Re: cesar milan. I watched loads of episodes and with that knowledge, i was able to out its lip over a tooth applying more pressure using "out". He'd bitten my dog on the skull , sending me into behaviors ill just say it wasnt his best day. He actually said " ' he doesn't know that command".
Wwhen chefs were taking over TV, i was thinking culinary school, butt they were trending down then.
Im 55 and due to fixed income it's not responsible to get a dog with all the cost. My last dog walked off leash during traffic, Halloween parties (with a band). Pure chaos. Half hour later he was asleep in the car. I always wondered if Cesar was hiring anyone. You had the exact same reaction as i did.
I maybe older but can see a dog fight 10 seconds before it happens. Never walked ahead. Around 3am, id be dancing silly and it had zero effect. I used command, signals and he lay down. Consideration if you will be hiring anyone. I live dogs and it took some time to work up the nerve to inquire about it. I want to do as much with dogs as i can. Lastly, i know depression anxiety and ptsd. Like Sullly, i can do whatever you need with regards to mental health. Ill shovel shite all day. I have ADHD and bullied immensely. Animals are the best when yer down.

Any advice on Belgian mallinois that responds a lot on other dogs?

      @saraandshe 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

Check out Andy Krueger's Dog Training videos. His Malinois are amazing and he gives great advice about the breed.
I think Mals require 1000 times more mental and physical stimulation than the average dog owner can give. I'd love to have one, but I know they are just "too much", LOL.

So the first two years I can't let my dog walk without a leash? Mine is 4 months and is off the leash and plays with other dogs. But maybe that's to early to give him that much space?

Imo I would dial this back in. Our lab was perfect off lead until bang on 6 months and all the hormones have kicked in and is now terrible with recall + constantly nose down sniffing. Good luck when that happens!
