Number one reason to not be a nurse: you’re stuck at the bedside more than anybody else in the hospital. RT’s leave after treatments, PT leaves when therapy is done, even doctors only stay a few minutes. Nurses are constantly at their side for every little need. Couldn’t pay me enough to be a nurse!! I’m an RT and proud. Healthcare jobs are where it’s at, you work only 3 days a week, which is around 145 days out of the year. It’s not a bad gig!
That is the whole point of nursing - to support the patients at the bedside. To me that (and hopefully for most nurses) is the motivation to become a nurse.
@@tummeti up to a point. Some patients treat the hospital like a hotel or a resort and expect things their way right when they want them. They can be very rude and demanding. It doesn’t always work that way. Emergencies and other out of the ordinary things happen that throw your timing off.

You’ve exaggerated everything x 10!!!! I’m a nurse with BSN, been for 22 yrs into the career. I love it and I wouldn’t choose anything different. I work 3 days a week and I’m home for the rest of the 4 days. I’ve been making 6 figures for many yrs, I bought a house and paid it off in my forties. I’ve taken vacations around the world and have sponsored a couple of kids thru college. I’m living a comfortable life and I’m happy knowing that I save or contribute to saving lives. Yes, it’s stressful but it’s manageable and how many jobs are stress free. I say if you like nursing, go for it! If it’s not for you, don’t do it for the money, not worth it.
Your reasons are all the things one should know (but not necessarily deal breakers) before getting onto a path of nursing. Time to become a RN is 3 and a half or 4 years - not 8 years. One year for prerequisites, half year for admission into a program, and 2 years for an associates degree. You can always convert that to a BSN, within a year, while you are working as an RN. Nurses not getting a job is just not true - some nurses are getting hired even before they are graduating.
Im currently working doing Nursing transitioning over to RT.. i am so excited to start the new program.. mostly everything you said is spot on. i became so burnt out within 4 years of nursing through covid and only vacation time once a year because i get pressured how short staffed we were and i didn’t want them to suffer. but look where that got me😩 also being bedside with the most demanding,challenging and rude patients suck too. when you have a billion other things to also do but dont want to be rude.. and having a manager who ONLY cares for the patients (which im 100% patients are always right YES.. but what about my health and feelings? wrote me up for call outs and i only called out 7 times within a 6 month period! with doctors notes) never felt so overwhelmed but i love taking care of people but geez.. i rather do what i have to do, build a connection in a faster way without feeling bad for cutting the patient off halfway thru there life story when you have 7 more patients to see and move on..
Soo true, nursing is competitive everywhere but especially California. I went to school in Idaho and had several people from California in my class! Lots of reasons not to go into nursing, but lots of pros too!
Very informative. I applied to my college’s nursing program, and unfortunately even though I took all of my prerequisites, I was not eligible to take the TEAS even though I was studying and preparing. I didn’t meet the cut score of 80 percent so I don’t qualify to take the TEAS exam with the college and therefore I wouldn’t be accepted. Something in myself tells me to not do nursing for good reasons. I would not be able to handle the stress.
I was a CNA in 1970’s…. Been an RN and have loved it…the horizon is broad. My husband is a nurse too and if you stay at the same hospital you can make good $. I do Vents in home now ..ty… NEVER THOUGHT I was going to see them outside the ICU…. HHC is where it is all going… so you better know what you are doing 😬

@@DoldierMedia I just watched your video on 5 reasons not to become a RT. Pathogens is a big reason for me. My lungs are slightly scard from repeated upper rerspirtory infections when i was younger. I was diagnosed with mild COPD. I have NEVER smoked in my life.
You guys hit the points on the head. Also don't forget the worse thing of nursing; The administration, the administration just makes things so much more worse with just looking at nurses as another number.
Lpn(lvn) is a great choice but the thing that sucks in California is that lvn’s aren’t allowed to administer meds through iv’s and have many restrictions on what they can or can’t do so that restricts many of them to only work at skilled nursing facilities and outpatient settings.

Thank you! So the schedule for most RT jobs is either 0645-1915 or 1845-0715. There are a few hospitals that do 8 hour shifts 0645-1515 and so on. But you are most like going to have a 12 hour shift. The schedule will depend on the hospital but some hospitals allow you to choose your own schedule depending on your seniority and some have a set schedule that cycles every 4-6 weeks. You are looking at 2-3 days per week with one weekend then 4 days off. There are a lot of people that I know who work 6 days in a row then have 8 days off. So it kinda depends on the hospital you work for to see what schedule they have. Finding a job Is much easier i would say, there’s still somewhat of a challenge in larger cities because they have a lot of candidates to choose from but compared to nursing you will get a job within a few months of graduation. In my experience, rt’s were able to get jobs within 2 months of graduating and within 1-2 years get their dream job of ideal place to work. I was going back in forth between rt and nursing and even radiology but rad tech jobs seems limited like not that many job posting. Rt seems less medication 💊 and more just breathing treatments, think I would enjoy it more. Lol don’t feel like drugging patients.
I think radiology is pretty amazing but there’s usually only a few of them per hospital and they don’t ever leave their jobs. I went with respiratory because you have more freedom to move around the hospital during the shift.

Despite taking the same general education, prerequisites and sciences respiratory earns about 20% to 30% LESS THAN R.N.s. R.N.s and M.D.s ate lunch, conversed idly, and even dated/married; yet, NEARLY never, can the same be said of the LOWLY respiratory therapist. My usual contribution to the 'team' was, " SaO2 is something %" followed by, "ok, ya sure", by the Pulmonologist. 37 years of such 'team work' was not pleasant, or worth it. Further, the nature of the discipline greatly diminishes the areas needed, thus opportunities are diminished. Choose R.N., NOT respiratory therapist.

People can become a LPN ( licensed Practical Nurse) and most programs are only a year

Dude. Chill. I work in a hospital and both respiratory and nurses are respected. Nurses seem to be always be busier though.
