Preferred rules off actually gets your a decent amount of 1v1s because of the opponents rule choices. For actual torture, you need to set the rules to teams, items on, and all stages with hazards. You'll get mostly three for alls in my experience.
This is true, espcially since that's one of my favorite rules, the game just freaks out like , "Nobody else is online with these rules! quick, grab 1v1 fs meter joe and free for all stamina mode sam!"

honestly my preferred way to play is without preferred rules, it means i won’t be playing the same kinds of matches all the time. Not to mention i think the best Smash Players are the ones that can perform well under multiple match types rather than whoever wins evo

The point of 3-stock/3-minute is that you can't realistically kill someone completely out of the match. It's for coffee-break stuff like I play, where you have time's advantage of letting everyone play the whole match without incentivizing bullying the way scoring can.

My fastest match was 3 seconds. Pacland, 1 stock (their ruleset, not mine) because Ridleys Side B on walk offs is actually amazing.
Little Z wished for a weird ruleset, so Dum the Dedede came to play, and play I mean by randomly throwing out Jet Hammers and Gordos.
