I just started fishing a year ago, and boy am I "hooked" :)... my pal got me my first fishing rod and reel, the reel is a Penn Sea-Boy, it's a lower 80's model and I have no idea where he got it from, but this thing works like a champ! I've been on 6-7 fishing trips so far on my friends boat and this reel has performed so well!..I cached lots of fish!.. so I started reading on reels and I see that Penn is a very respected company, and a lot of pro's are using them and say very good things about them. so now I feel I want to maintain my sea-boy reel cause its worth it, plus I am getting a new Senator (I will give the sea-boy to my son for when he joins me fishing). this video sure gives some good advice, thank you!!!
It would have been awesome if at the end of the video, he did a final thoughts portion with him completely covered in grease. As he walks through his home, they get a shot of the dog coated in grease. Then he starts cooking a piece of chicken with a thick coat of grease. Lol.
I do 1,000 reels a year in my shop. For someone that takes care of their own reels this video will make you sick. For someone who runs a charter business this way of protecting you reels is the only way. They will use these reels until they quit. They will buy new ones later.
This is how charter captains have to do it. They run these reels in the hands of people who know nothing about them 300+ days a year. It's not meant for optimum performance it's meant for optimum survival. I service my own reels and believe me it's not like this but for captains this is the only way to keep them running day after day.
Thank you for the compliment (for our online store at Pennparts.com). We are always glad to be able to help with the Penn reel repairs. ~The Crew at Scott's Bait & Tackle.
Scott Albertson hey I just bought a body for my spinfisher from y'all and you Sure do have you stuff together. It was awesome shipping and I got the right part I will use y'all again definitely!!!
Was not ready for the amount of grease. Don't know how I feel about people defending this charter captain. More is not always better. Just service your gear more than once a season. I've been on a few charters and plenty of public boats. Never used a greased out reel like that.
Captn ...have you tried washing your reels in Saltaway? It will stop the salt corrosion.. I would say just have a mix kept in bottle and dunk them... i think you wan reuse the solution over and over again.
Chris W you dont understand his point. He isnt trying to get the best performing reels he needs his reels for googans coming on his charter who domt know how to fish where the reels might get dunked or not taken care of. For personal use ofc this is too much but for chartering its perfect
Get your screwdriver out to clean all that black grease off. Lol. I service my 0/6 every other year and would never put that much grease on. You gotta think the Mose grease the more, salt, sand, and debris gets attach to it. Look at second chance tackle if u have any questions. This guy is funny.
This is honestly sad to watch your really getting every dollar out of your $200 rod and reel😂 i build rod and i wouldn't recommend greasing a reel seat or guides and those reels should last you 100 years greasing them that much ive seen 4/0's last till today that were bought the week they came out and their still doing fine and have never been serviced my buddy's 6/0 is in great condition only thing wrong with it is the free spool clicker and for him.Jew fish fishing with that reel its amazing that that's the only thing wrong with the never serviced reel

Those Penn reels are hard to beat for the price. Just a little maintenance and they will last!

Yepp! I service my own reels and im careful not to get too much grease in the reel but for this much use it's the only way to keep them going.
Thank you for taking the time to show us something.
Juss grease tha hall damn thang bwao! Lol. Thanks Pops!!

Put a little grease on your fishing hat and shoes just in case. I like this dude!! Real quick and simple.
Hay Capt Chris great video you have to protect your equipment 🐟
I wouldn't have greased the rod guides because you'll get it on the fishing line and fish can smell it. You wont catch anything...
wow that is allot of grease

No I agree to much grease can ruin a good reel
You have to use just enough grease
Captn ...have you tried washing your reels in Saltaway? It will stop the salt corrosion.. I would say just have a mix kept in bottle and dunk them... i think you wan reuse the solution over and over again.
how the hell do u get all the grease off the reel for fishing?
You don't, it protects it from salt corrosion.
Capt grease 😂
Why on the spool? Wont that make your mono spin??
jroyero no on penn senators they have either little knobs to tie the line to or you tape down the line on top of the knot
man i also youse grease but only in the reel he does the spool and everithing
Just kidding thanks again for your time and help 🐟
I knew things were off when he started packing the plastic reel seat of the rod with grease
if you go fishing the reel is just going to slip out of your hads
thank you for the video. I have a few off these reels and use them for trolling. I'm going to do this.
mejor sumergirlo en el frasco.debe trabajar en penn el señor-
Why would you grease the screw holes? 😂😂
To make sure the screw comes out the next time it's common.
i feel like im watching forrest gump talking about grease all day long :)
can u give me a wheel n pole 2 fish in my kayak
Wow, is this guy for real? Do not listen to this googan. You don't need that much grease. Not even close.
