Our Spotlight is on the 2004 Mercedes-Benz C32 AMG, with the only V6 engine AMG ever produced for a road car. The 3.2L engine married to the supercharger gives this car an incredible thrust that a video game cannot translate.

I just love to drive around in that type of car nobody would ever expect to be fast and mad, so it gives me a beautiful smile on my face. Those are the best type of cars to have! Those little modern sleepers :)
Agreed! We really like these older AMGs for that exact reason, this and the E55 AMG we reviewed a while ago both look almost identical to their regular counterparts.

How’s the reliability
How's the economy
theyoungstunna11 as a fellow c32 owner, it’s very reliable as far as the engine and transmission. This is a car however, that you would want to be able to work on yourself. If you do, the little things that can go wrong will be fairly cheap, and there is so much support with very active forums. Also with about 600$ you can make it much faster. I have mine stock currently, but I rode in a modded c32 and even with that extra passenger weight the torque was enormous. It is seriously fast I couldn’t see you wanting anything faster for public roads. So all in all, yes it’s reliable but be ready for little things breaking, and you need to go hands on.

I love my 02 C32amg. I’ve had the pleasure to have driven Mercedes cars for the best part of 20 years(mainly c200 & 230’s) The C32amg is definitely my favourite car. Very un assuming, a bit of a sleeper but when you wanna boogie.....

Definitely one of the best reviews out there. You didn’t bore the audience with magazine statistics like what wheels it comes with and the rest. You addressed the common problems, especially with the radiator and transmission fluid issue which not many people know about.
The only thing I feel was missing is a quick pull with the camera showing the speed, and talk about the gearbox. Does it shift smoothly (both up and downshifts), is it fast when changing gears, etc.

Very good review of the c32. I bought a C32 a few years ago at a Great price considering all the engineering and power that went into this AMG. I have installed headers, cold air intake, tweaked intake manifolds , ecu & tcu tunes and a must have LSD differential. With the price of The car and all The upgrades a few years ago I'm into the c32 for less than $10K US/ $12,5 CA. According to the torque horsepower apps it is at 462 crank HP and it pulls like it has every bit of that HP. The power to dollar ratio for this vehicle is amazing . The reliability and build quality has held up great even at 122K miles/196K km No problems at all and I drive the car very hard. No track days. Just Canyon and weekend Street driving.
That's awesome! We saw a C32 AMG for sale around the time we were looking at E500 wagons about 2 years ago, I think they were asking $10k CAD for it. White on black just like this one we featured, but there weren't any details on it. It was just sitting in the parking lot at the used car dealer with no plates.
I used to own a 2003 C32 back in 2003-2006. Really miss that car sometimes. It was pretty much stock except for SL55 Air Boxes, H&R Coilovers and Brabus Swaybars. My biggest regret was not leaving the suspension bonestock and just spending that money on chip+pulley combo.
We've heard that the engines are very easy to tune and upgrade with these cars. We all look back at the cars we've owned and wish we've done something different, so don't feel too bad.

I own one and I can tell you right now they are complete packages as they are. I am super into sports cars, mods, etc but I can't imagine modding one. First off it has such a wide powerband and perfect delivery up past 100mph, I've dusted corvettes, Maseratis and STIs handily.
Secondly they're so rare, it's a responsibility to keep them stock and care for them. There's not many examples left and throwing a bunch of aftermarket stuff on it is irresponsible

We'd love to get the C55 AMG done as well. We had one offered to us just before we moved, however it was heavily modified (cosmetically and mechanically) and we seem to do better when the vehicles are as original as possible.
@@PRNTestDrive I looked at two modified C55's. They had missing cats and resonators so were loud all the time. They had modified suspensions which might work on track but are useless over pot holes and shopping center speed bumps. The modified cars were likely beat to heck by previous owners. I bought an all stock C55 which was well cared for. Definitely worth the extra money over the modified examples.
I recently upgraded to a clk55, still own my c32, can't beat the torque of the V8, V6 might be quicker by a hair, but the v8 just feels so awesome with that big fat torque
I really enjoyed the CLK 55 AMG we featured in late 2018, I was hoping more viewers would be interested in it though.

Is it only me, or the w203 has aged quite well, specially the rear and sides? compared to the e46 even the e90 and audi b6
The E46 still looks great today, but the Audi A4/S4 of the same era looks absolutely terrible. I see some on the road and they look very dated, however the W203 looks nice. Probably because Mercedes hasn't really changed their formula over the past decade, whereas Audi sent all the old designs to VW. A 2006 Passat looks like a 2002 A4.

I've had a c32 for 8 years and it's been a love hate relationship for sure. Hell its barely moved the past year. Might be time to dig it out and put it back on the road. Great video though and good to see the 32 get some attention.

What issues with it did u encounter and would u recommend buying a high mileage one
idler pulley failure. Sc bearing. Water pump. stepper motors. recently lost heat. Oil leaks. suspension bushings are shot. throttle body. header crack. Interior and exterior fell apart. wipers/signals work when they want. After I put tires on it and cracked a wheel I parked it. I’m sure I’m forgetting things. Only has 100k on it. Too many project cars and it’s somewhat my fault for letting everything add up on it but it’s slowly getting fixed. Plenty of people have had great reliability out of them. Just not me.

casey peterson I'm in the same boat. I have driven the C32 and the C55. 32 has the supercharger whine and noises, 55 gets you a much newer feeling interior and v8 rumble.

i bought one of these for 4 grand and ive done like another 4 in repairs and i dont feel like it goes as fast the rear main went out the rad went out solenoids conductor plate smh
Sounds pretty average honestly, these are going to require maintenance and upkeep. They also aren't that quick by today's standard.

Own one in black. T-model, Very nice car. Look at the pulleys, fuelpumps, secondary air pump, struts (replaced with Koni front, Bilstein rear). Cheap to run. As fast as the actual C43.

We're close to making it happen! We've got an early model S500 lined up, just waiting for the owner's availability to open up so we can film a Spotlight and Showdown with it. We're hoping for end of the month or early September.
M3's equivalent for half price
The M3 was the true king, we'd love to have an E46 M3 and a W203 AMG to feature in a Showdown.
E46 isn't as good as a daily, isn't as rare and because the c32 was mostly bought by old rich guys they weren't beat to shit
I have had this car from new since 2003, my engine blew last year and there is no replacement engine for this car in the UK, so it was off the road for one year rusting in a abandoned car yard in Leicester, I was thinking about taking my kleemann pullys of and scraping the shit box, but then decided to get it fixed, I just recently replaced all 6 pistons for £1500 and £500 for labour to take the engine out, rebuilt it and put it back not bad, a garage in Birmingham did it for me
That's not too bad overall, how's it running now?
PRN it's fun to drive especially with the pully kit, but be warned, the 32 engines do have a reputation of blowing and the charge cooler leaks

As far as I know, no. Aside from the few cosmetic changes this car should be completely OEM.
Hi there, nice channel and nice cars. However, I would suggest getting a little bit more specs included in the videos. Maybe get a v-box or sth similar? Especially to see how the older cars have kept up in their performance. Anyways, keep the nice videos coming!
Great suggestion, thanks! We're hoping to add more data like this to the show down the road, and we'd like to start getting to that point as our subscriber and view numbers increase. Right now a typical car takes us around 3 hours to film, so adding in more equipment ends up taking time that we don't have, but we're hoping to get there soon!

It seems to be as reliable as the other AMG engines we've featured. The supercharger does need additional maintenance like we mentioned but aside from that we couldn't find any real issues with the engine outside of regular maintenance.
PRN oh and is the car in the thumbnail a different car or did the owner change his grill.
Same car! We do some post-process editing to the thumbnail photos to punch up the colour to stand out, but it's a photo we took during the filming of the drive-by segments.
I know a guy who has something like 350 000 km or more in his c32 and no big problems with it.
What do you think of the C32 vs C55? The c32 seems like it has more unique character given it doesn't share its power train, but the later C55 was supposedly much faster and more powerful.
Very good question, we personally prefer the C32 on principal for what you mentioned, it's more exclusive due to smaller production numbers and was the only car to bear a 32 AMG designation. We'd love to get both W203 AMGs together for a Showdown to see which is better.

Compair this to a e46 m3? Same era and the e46 M3 would run rings around a track against this C32
I'd be very happy to compare this to an E46 if I could. I think that's part of the reason why Mercedes replaced it with the C 55 as a mid-cycle refresh.

@@PRNTestDrive I just bought a Mercedes AMG c32 with 66k miles and in mint condition, black on black obsidian black metallic $640 option and others were standard, it was a expensive build sheet like $57,000 new in 2002. I will do some videos it’s a Southern Calififornia car and just gorgeous. I almost but S 55 with 145,000 miles with 5.4 Supercharged vary well maintained but the dealer I bought mine said those are a nightmare on costs. That these are much better hald the car costs and 75-80% of their big brother light and nimble.
my buddy almost went this route but ended up going with his c32 amg getting the engine fully built, rods, pistons, full built trans, everything you could possibly reinforce which btw most of it had to be custom made and/or modified it was not cheap at all. Ended up boring/stroking it out to 4 liters, tossed the helical supercharger it came with and tossed on a 3.0 liter roots from weistec. Again this was not cheap at all. Super custom job paid more for it to be done than he did for the car...in fact wayyyy more lol. I wont say exactly how much because its embarrassing and hes a friend lol but i will say...totally pointless in the minds of 99.99% of people out there lol. Front end had to be modified so did the hood and rear has been widened as well by 4 inches in total. But that mofo fucking moves. Last dyno day he went to it put down 520rwhp on 93 octane. Hes got the entire backseat ripped out with a roll cage and race buckets in the front, dash has been replaced with a custom carbon fiber piece. Basically no tech in the car lol. its still a build in progress getting all the little hiccups out but eurocharged has done a really great job with the tuning. no surprise there they did my c63 and its nothing short of glorious. We are thinking 600rwhp+ by the end of the year. A Little nitrous and Hopefully he will let me do a video on it because it is just something you have to see to believe. So many possibilities with these cars. Love this video!!

The W211 is a great car too! I was seriously considering an E 500 wagon but I wasn't ready to pull the trigger on the one I found. This generation C-AMG is great though, I'll always have a soft spot for this specific engine too. Hope you find a good one!

It's not the only V6 the new C43 AMG and E43 AMG feature V6 biturbo engines.
That's a good point yes, however I think most will argue that the new 43 AMGs aren't true AMG models or engines, despite being assembled in the AMG factory.
PRN True I think that if your going to buy a new AMG you might as well buy the V8 instead of the V6 which has like a 100 less bhp.
Agreed! I mean we haven't driven the 43s yet but the general consensus on enthusiast forums/groups is they aren't true AMGs, seems like if you want the real deal you still need a 63/65!

I have a 2017 E43 and with 400 HP and Mercedes rightly calling it an AMG it is simply a rocket, the forums/groups are just stuck in the past

If you live in Central Florida, I know somebody selling a 2002 C32 AMG for 5 grand. Even has a stage 3 tuning chip as well as a lighter pulley. I would have bought that same one, but they were selling it for $7,500 2 months ago. The one I bought was $5,000 and it had 170 K miles on it. But everything's been done to it and it's really good and I'm happy with it. The one over in Deltona Florida I saw has 30,000 miles less. And I test drove that thing and it was amazing also

It is! And that was a big problem when we went to film this car. I believe it's in Forza Horizon, which isn't backwards compatible with the Xbox One, so we had to fire up the old one and record our shots with the in-game video capture features.
PRN Forza 7 comes out in a month. C32 is in it from launch.

While I love all the Mercedes and BMW content, it'd be nice to see some other makes reviewed: e.g. VW, Audi, Jaguar, and Cadillac.
And we'd definitely like to make that happen. Now that we're settled in the Montreal area we're hoping to make it out to local enthusiast meets and make new contacts. Up until now we've been a part of local BMW and Mercedes clubs in Toronto.

i have a w203 and im thinking of putting the c32 amg engine into my 07 c230 will the engine work for my 7 speed automatic transmission?
I'd say no, but I'd look into a forum like MBWorld.org to see if anyone has done that sort of swap before, they have a lot of data and info from years of community support.

PRN they made less than 30, but more exist. People simply buy the engine from an E55 or S55 and drop it into a C43. Bolts right in and bingo. I daily drive one. Head and shoulders above how it performed with the 43 engine

See if you can find a 2012 c350, it's nearly as fast as this but with a faster gearbox and much cheaper to run
That's always the issue with older luxury cars, they're made obsolete by the newer vehicles, especially when it comes to performance. It seems like the late 90s and early 2000s were the beginning of this major push for power, every new generation felt like it doubled the performance of the previous.
The e55 has 520 lbs of torque and it didn't sqeal the tires

Forza Motorsport has some of the best collection of cars throughout their entire series. I was disappointed when Horizon 4 didn't include the entire back catalogue, gotta load up some of the older titles like FM4 for cars like this.
@@PRNTestDrive exactly - horizon 4 is missing the 850csi and old 635 - even the Tesla Model S was in horizon 3...
I’d say that was the biggest letdown of the game. They had the potential to carryover all the previous cars to make an insane library of vehicles.
Why isn’t there quad exhaust ?
I believe that was only on the C 55 AMGs, whereas the C 32s were like this.
This tachometer is the most sexy sporty tach. but so cheap materials ,, love it.
Other beautiful is the w 211 one , that one is edgeless wow wow, not this new weird screens.
That was one thing that certainly disappointed me when I drove this, it just felt cheap compared to other Mercedes vehicles.
This C32 is not bad but i would rather take the C55 because of the steering wheel and its the facelift model and the models before the facelift was known for rust and other kind of this

Worse than any other W203, but probably not all that bad considering it's a smaller supercharged engine over the C 55's heavy V8.

michobebemckawi, that's too bad! Someone had messaged me on Facebook about an S600 in the area, not sure if you were who they were talking about. We did find a W140 S500 LWB in Nun's Island, we're hoping to get it filmed in a few weeks but the V12 is on the top of our list!
Why does a top spec model like this still have BLANK switches?! I hate it when car companies do that.
That's always what we wonder too. I think there were different buttons for the W203 though, such as the rear window wiper and other wagon specific buttons that wouldn't be found here.

c32 or c55 or e55?
We haven't had the chance to drive the W203 C55, but I think if the W203 C32 and W210 E55 were both available with similar mileage, maintenance, and price, we'd still end up with the W210 for size/space. But for speed and handling the C32 wins easily.
I had the c32 for 15 years. Modded everything. For anyone looking for one is suggest the C55 however, it will end up being more reliable with the facelift w203
Ive owned the c32 and currently have a c55 and a w211 e55. The C32 was fun to drive and had the instant torue of the supercharger. It doesnt take long for the c55 to build torue and enjoy that V8. I like the facelifted w203 better though both cars have the strong points. Id almost call them even. Now the w211 e55,,,while it doesnt handle like the w203s but I like the comfort and crap the acceleration is incredible. mpg is the worst but its more about smile per gallon. The suede leather headliner, dynamic seats and keyless go still have me loving this car. The c55 i have has a good bit of miles at 180k but its strong and so reliable its really more of my daily driver now.

Depends entirely on what you want, you're asking to compare two different vehicle models and two different engines. The V8 55 AMG-series engine is phenomenal, we've driven it with the CLK 55 and loved it, one of the most reliable AMG engines you can buy. The C 32 being a 4 door over the 2 door CLK could be better as a daily driver depending on your situation, but there are issues with the 32-series engine and the supercharger. Regular maintenance on that is crucial for it to be reliable. As much as I've always loved the C 32 AMG I'd likely go with the CLK after driving both.

i dont know about c32s being more rare the c55s. in the us the c55s were only around for 2 years, '05 had like 1500ish and '06 had under 500

What we were implying that the rarity was the 32-Series in general, considering only the C-Class and SLK-Class came as a 32 AMG, whereas the E-Class, CLK-Class, C-Class, S-Class, SL-Class, ML-Class, G-Class, and CL-Class came with the 55-Series engine.

The C32 isnt more rare. Not the sedan version anyway. The wagon is, though, and the forgotten C32 Sportback is incredibly rare.

That's a tough question. I think the interior on the BMW is nicer, feels more premium than on the Mercedes, but the styling of the W203 is just perfect. The BMW will be sportier though, so if you're looking for a car with a better performance-oriented feeling, then the BMW is the one to go with.

That's what we hear! Same with the very limited number of W202 C55 AMGs made, those apparently are insanely fast.
the c32 is great I also own a g37 coupe which is kinda like the c32 a very quick car however c55 has a lot of brutality to its speed

We've noted with other pre-201X era Mercedes models that the interiors haven't aged as well as some of the competition. Things like the dedicated telephone buttons being used as late as 2013 make the cars feel older than they should.
This channel definitely doesn't deserve more subscribers like a few said.... maybe you think that way if you're an average person that's a bit into cars.
If you're really into cars, especially Mercedes, this channel nearly seems like a joke.
There's almost no video where I don't have to cringe when the host goes over the options, features and facts of the cars.
It looks like he doesn't even do detailed research on the cars, just focus on/point out what the car he happens to review was equipped with/ is like.
Don't tell me your "blabla" of "most cars here in canada...[...] or "almost none of the available cars had [...]" like in the S-class vs. 7series video.
It is bad practices to count in these factors when comparing/reviewing vehicles.
Get your facts right and don't put as much personal preference/opinion into your comparisons and this channel (maybe) could get better over time.
p.s.: show me the C46 in which they introduced the new all plastic smartKey.... there is no c46...
