@@crossedup91nzx Name rings a bell brother, where was he based? I never reached the heady heights of defender ownership, always series 1s, 2s and 3s, a 79 Range Rover and multiple discoveries 🤣 The moonbeams people are asking for them now have kind of put me off!
He lived in between granity and birchfeild normally done a track up there called moa bones and a few other can't remember the old name for this track I remember around 2012 we nosed a disco up it but didn't get far
That looks like a hell of a lot of fun. Need to get a bar and winch for my Sierra. Had to turn back up the Watagans a couple of weeks back for lack of one. Do you guys trailer all your rigs to the tracks? They are obviously pretty capable on the track but they don't look exactly roadworthy This little moment at 3:06 seemed a little dangerous. If the line broke I guess the nylon line wouldn't take his head off, but maybe still chance of injury?
Heaps of fun, winches are bloody great! Depends how far the tracks are usually, we are from Christchurch so trailer them to the west coast it’s a long way to limp a broken truck home, few of our trucks are road worthy, but none are on this trip. Nah there’s bugger all load on that rope you can tell because the trees so small if he was stuck stuck then you’d want to be clear of the rope but yea the synthetic stuff is awesome. Cheers for the comment mate
The press fit pulley mount that water pump pulley bolts to was slogged out and loose so just trying to stop it slip off. Just used battery leads straight to it

There was a group of fellas there week before us in big trucks they did a few of the tracks. Some of them running 38inch tyres though lol

You fellas should take on the waitahu track (gannons road) to Montgomery hut just north of reefton, I’d love to see that vid 😊❤️
Been through there a few times, cool spot eh, except for all the sandflies!
Used to drive all these tracks in a stock standard 58 Land Rover without a winch in the 90s. Just saying.
Wouldn't happen to know Phil price by any chance he use to 4wd up there in old Landys too in 90s and in a defender in 2000s
