I’m a new fan and wanted you to know I love the learning and mostly love how you and Robby joke back and forth. Actually, to be 100% honest, I love your accent most! Thanks for the education and entertainment. Best wishes,

Another super video. Always nice to be sorting dry sheep in the shed. Seems to be plenty of coughing in the sheep. Might be worth understanding who is doing the coughing?
Hey david, recently got onto your videos and really enjoy how you bring the good, the bad and the ugly of real sheep farming. Have a question: I am in upstate New York, looks just like where you live but tougher winters. I have a flock of about 250 Katahdin ewes, pasture and shed kept. I do appreciate the easy keepers that they are but have not been happy with the lamb growth/feed conversion. Would anyone have a suggestion? Have been breeding with purebred katahdin rams. Cant see myself selling these ewes and buying a wool breed but its possible. Could possibly trade up 1 for 1 but finding that many good ewes is very difficult. More likely consider crossbreeding with a wool breed. Any suggestions? Bottom line is i need growthier lambs without issues.
Thank you and glad you are enjoying the videos. Slower growth rate is the biggest downside to my breed but I'm experimenting with a muscled breed (texel) this year to see how that improves the lambs. Could you cross some of your ewes with a similar breed and keep some ewes purebred with the katahdin rams to continue to breed your own replacements. Good luck with whatever you decide.
The lamb with scald, I clean the foot and dip it in a a strong solution of blue stone and warm water for 60 seconds to allow it soak in well once a day for 1-2 days depending on how bad the foot is. Cheap and effective every time. No need to inject or spray especially for a factory lamb near finishing. Hope that helps.
Would you ever keep back any of those ram lambs for breeding like that over 50kg weoght woth 310g/day gain? You have a lot of data there to select good conformations and weight gain and vigour if you were trying a closed farm system.
David are the Lleyn sheep good milkers? I’m thinking of buying one to put on my Xbreds to breed replacement ewes, Xbreds are mostly Charollais cross ewes
Hi Paul, I sell over half of my breeding rams for that job. A lot of farmers prefer to breed their own replacements and a Lleyn ram will produce hardy, milky crosses that have a good lamb crop too. Definitely try one and see how it goes 👌
That's the weights you will need now as kill out will be a bit less that summer grazed lambs .Given these are a maternal breed you have great loins and lenght of these ram lambs. While they would not out kill a continental on kill out% or daily live weight gain your feeding has paid off and the soft ware fed back gives you a great insight into the performance of the meal your feeding. Good stuff
Aye true should have added that's summer grazed lambs that are creep fed , to be honest we don't creep feed our Beltex lambs and they kill out as high as 58% , we believe "an ounce if breeding is worth a ton of feeding".
I think age has good bit to do with it. Those lambs killed out at 42%-46%. Slaughtered single eam lambs in August just off grass that killed out 50%. Meal definitely helps this time of year...
It pays to feed them David and gave a good return compared to the store trade in the back end plus its good to have a bit of money coming in at this time .Well deserved and good luck with the rest of the batch.
I grew a forage crop few years back when reseeding. It was rocket fuel for finishing lambs but reseed turned out very dirty with weed. Hope to make silage this year 👌
@@sheepschool365 gent thank you. I’m going to buy one of your headlocks for lambing. Just to howld the hoggets to get the lambs on if issues. Keep at it !
Amazing bloke - can make a head lock, sort the technology, include fabulous Robby and say 'I love you' to his girls whilst dropping them off at nursery or sending them off to school. Imagine how life would be if politicians could do all this!!??
With those Lamb's had such a bad run you must be delighted with the recover, they lassies are better chasing sheep than 2 good dogs the future looks good, good price, enjoyed the video stay lucky

Great video David, have weather llyen lambs on adlib in the shed here at the minute doing around 350 grams a day
Great growth rates 👍 Are they purebreds or crosses?
@@sheepschool365 some would be alright

DAVID YOU VERY LUCKY LAMBS THERE. YOU MAKE GOOD MONEY ON THEM.
David do you feed any silage or hay when you have them in or just meal ?
They are on middling hay for bit of roughage. Keeps the stomach right..
Very good results . Would make me think of putting last few in myself this year and finishing .
Great video as usual. Fair price at the factory gate. Well done!
Thanks! 👍
Beautiful daughters you have and very polite ❤ Love ya work ol mate 👍
Thank you 😊
I see your lambs done well. Are you Quality Assured. R and U is the normal for good lambs..The mart trade is very strong also.
Not quality assured as over half goes for breeding. Would the mart be the place for those lighter lambs?
Enjoyed the video 👌
Glad you enjoyed 👍

Would you not sow your own crop for meal? Or cut ur own silage cut enough for 2 year save money in long run

Great video man. QQ what’s my cheapest drop pins? Is it screed?
Thank you.. what do you mean drop pins?
@@sheepschool365 em the metal pins that you drop down between 5ft lambing hurdles to attach them.
I mostly use 10mm mild steel round bar. The gates that came with the mobile race has 16mm aluminium pins..
@@sheepschool365 gent thank you. I’m going to buy one of your headlocks for lambing. Just to howld the hoggets to get the lambs on if issues. Keep at it !
Great tool for that job. Especially an over anxious first timer that won't settle to let lambs suck 👌
A good lleyn breeder near me told me once to aim for 47, 48 kg for finishing lambs. He said ideally R3 grade and up.
Just discovered that 8 of those 15 lambs were over the 23kg cut off weight. Will send the next batch lighter.
Everyday's a school day 😉
Did the lamb with the sore foot do 0.08kg or 0.8kg per day live weight gain ?
0.08kg. 80grams. Way down on the average of 250 grams per day.

Thank you. Yes, the lambs have done very well 👌
Good stuff
Glad you enjoyed
You could save money on using less marker spray. All these costs add up in the long run.
Thank you for the feedback.
Great 👍
Thank you 👍
At nite when all the lights are off in the shed get a good long fishing net and a strong light and then you can catch them pisky pigeons😁
Those pesky pigeons are a dirty mess...
Good see ya happy sheep
When they're skipping about you'd know they're thriving..
How much is robey worth
Worth his weight in gold!
Excellent lambs i am sure your happy with them
Very happy and great prices too 👌
U should cross a few to a Suffolk best sheep out of any
Would like to try a few next year... 👍
Robey you are a fine man
Make sure and disinfect shed before ewes go in, if the lambs had footrot I’ll fly through the shed with damp moist bedding underfoot
I will have to clean it out, bedding is up very high
