- Tonight we take you on the most incredible drive through the Swiss Alps as we drive our Motorhome over the Grimsel Pass, the Furka Pass and the Gotthard pass. See how we are settling in to full time vanlife in Switzerland, as we find a cheap and cheerful carpark park up, and an eye-watering expensive lakeside Campsite.

Our family have been roaming around the UK, Europe and US since 2007. We set off on each trip with only a rough destination in mind, allowing the roads we take and places we stop to evolve as we meet new friends along the way.

You have a lovely family
George is a lovely young man!
Enjoy your holiday xx
!
Thanks Shirley x
It’s so lovely the older boys still want to come away with the family. It’s a sad day when they won’t anymore. Enjoy the family time. We are loving your European tour. Your channel is at its best making these videos ❤
Thank you Elizabeth x
Really enjoyable, your young son George is a delight, bless him. X
Thanks Pauline!
Rode many of those roads and passes on a rented BMW 800 ST out of Berlin back in 2007. Did Grossglockner Pass and a few others in Austria, and got all the way down to Stelvio Pass in Italy. Came back up through Switzerland and the Grimselpass, Sustenpass, and Furkapass triangle to Interlaken and Wengen. Stunning, just beautiful riding! Had the bike for 28 days. Did nearly 4,000 miles!
Ahh what a trip! I think the rest of us were happy to get to a site and chill for a bit!
Ahh what a trip! I think the rest of us were happy to get to a site and chill for a bit!
Go George! Well done!
Thank you x
Another great upload. Switzerland is a beautiful country, I've been lucky enough to have worked here for the past 11 years but heading back to the UK in September. I hope you had a great trip, the drone footage was amazing.
Thanks Gerry
I was driving those same amazing roads in June this year, what I noted this year was the amount of people on electric cycles with the largest solar panels attached you ever saw. Not sure how the cycles would handle in windy conditions close to the edge of a mountain road!!!
Thank you for posting
Ohh that is a scary thought!!
Awwww, George really is a little dote 💙. Yes the campsite was expensive but looked beautiful x
It’s was really lovely Denise!
Thanks guys for sharing your travels, I have saved all your ‘passes’ in Switzerland and camp site. H
Oooh enjoy xx
Love the driving footage it shows the beauty of the country!
Thanks Karen x
Loved George being part of the vlog wow that expensive campsite xx
He’s a ⭐️
How confident is George on camera!!! Amazing!
Isn’t he great Jodie. Make sure your subscribed to his channel th-cam.com/channels/3GvghDhlLR2-I1zYB-npNA.html
😢 I remember the beauty of the country . It was nice to see again.
Great video folks - worth noting in my experience of 2 new cars and a motorhome that new vehicles are heavy on ad-blue but after a few thousand miles usage massively drops.
Thanks Jon, I thought it was going through quite a bit, let’s hope it settles down soon.
What is add blue? Please
Loving watching guys .👍👍
Thanks Jay x
Loving the new series guys!
Thank you lovely xx
Hey George you are such a cool kid. His ideas of are too funny.
He’s a legend!
Beautiful drives and my goodness it’s busy at that camp site. The lake weather finally changed for you yay 😀 Amazing family trip 👍🏻🚐 Trev n Sue

Just picked you guys up on here. Great stuff driving the sort of roads we want to drive. Go pro stress aside did you end up using your Mavic (mini?) to great way to get stabilised vid. Never thought of that with my Mavic P2. Scary roads! Nice one.
Wow that scenery was amazing guys. Well done on the driving Steve.
102 pound for a campsite! ouch! Safe journey

Just went to RadFest! 3 video's back to back! You guys are having a ball😍Keep them coming 😘😘
We love you two so much, have a espresso martini for me 😘
Great video! Can you park overnight on locations such as that at 5:47? Going to Switzerland on our maiden motorhome journey (renting) and so any tips would be great :)
I’m not but I’d imagine you can. Have look at www.searchforsites.co.uk and you’ll find a fair fee wild camping spots around there. Watch our videos, that’s where you’ll the best tips
Thanks for sharing, I think it’s a good job you have a 6 wheeler, ( your MotorHome is amazing ) I have a 6 berth Auto Trail Scout and only me living in it. As you said about brakes mine is awful in Scotland never mine Swissily lol. I’ve had 2 clutches in 3 years no I don’t wear divers boots lol my clutch went in Yorkshire in the middle of nowhere the garage nearly wrecked my van. When a clutch burns out you ALWAYS do the SLAVE UNIT but no this hut of a garage didn’t so 15 mile from where I picked it up the unit went, cost me £500 from MacAdams to take me back to the garage, at a cost for hotel bills for staying 2 nights while he waited for parts and or things it cost me just over £2000. Clutch goes again and my local garage did it in Liverpool and videoed the mess that was made. Gear box had sheared bolts missing and lots more and they say watch out abroad if you put it into a garage. Oops sorry getting off track. I could not help but think while watching your video and you talking about the Great Lakes why the hell have you not got a inflatable dinghy? With out board motor. There not expensive 40/50kg folds into a small bag. When in Scotland a fried had one and he goes island hopping so I know I want a Honwave ( Honda make them ) with a 10HP engine short shaft ( small to pack away ) I’ve had aluminium box made to go on the back to put it in. £1250 brand new for the Honwave T32 IE SIB Dinghy 3.2mtre you guy would need would need a 4mtre I’ve seen them cheaper than mine. You can get a Mariner engine use for under £1000 that’s for many years of fun with your kids they would love it The Honwave are very fat tubes meant for sea. I can’t wait to get mine and I wish my kids where your age again your like looks a great guy loved how close you guys looked on your bathroom walk lol. My son and daughter are still like that now but have grown up kids of their own. Great video loved it . Ray K. UK. YNWA.
Ahhh Ray, thank you for your lovely comment xx
@@RoamingRadfords Just a fact you can see in your sons face how must he not only loves you you can see the respect to. Happy holidays.
I think George needs his own channel!
George has his own channel Rebecca, it’s GeoRad th-cam.com/channels/3GvghDhlLR2-I1zYB-npNA.html
Great video guys, loving the start of this series already. You probably already know but the best way to get AdBlue is via the HGV pumps at the fuel stations, works out usually £10 a tank cheaper! Looking forward to more videos, Oliver.
Ohh Oliver, great tip for anyone reading these comments!
Love your vlogs. We found Switzerland very diverse Geneva is very French and the houses and as you say the German side is very German and the other side of Switzerland is very Italian. We do prefer Austria.❤️❤️❤️
It’s all stunning, I love the fact that we can actually feel the differences as we travel!
Loving the tour, thank you so much Steve and Lyndsay...got 2 more years until we get back over there, and planning on doing a lot of what you are showing us. Keep having fun, and by all means sharing with us. Helpful hint Steve, it's a bit slower, but it'll save your brakes....depending on how steep the decline is, select as low as second gear, and let the compression of the engine help you maintain your speed . Don't be afraid to let it rev a little (without going right out to redline that is) and when you do use the brakes, one good application, and then let them off, don't use constant on off applications, or you could end up with brake fade and a very scary ride to the bottom. (40 years of truck driving experience, including 200 tonne, 4 trailer road trains...just hopefully passing on a helpful tip) Dazza could probably show you better with his lorry.
Thank you! Steve uses a mix of low gears and pumping to get us down the mountains in one piece! This is a great tip though x
Fantastic driving shots, and a good all-round video 👍💙❤️
Thank you x
Hi, how difficult is it to find (in Switzerland ) station to empty your grey water tank and cassette toltes plus to fill up a tank with freshwater? Do you use any app for this?
We use searchforsites and park4night, but we mainly just use campsites to replenish our services.
Those roads look very cool to drive.
They are amazing!
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for commenting.
Great video ouch £102 for one night thats a lot was a nice place though loved the views while you were driving that lake looked so clear and nice thank you for showing us
Thanks Sally x
Your welcome x
It wasn't dangerous before you started driving there. I drove there with my girlfriend on the back of my motorcycle in 1978 and 1983. It was very safe.
The £100 was for the 2 nights surely, I've stayed on some £50 a night sites but never ever a £100 per night, lovely vlog though, we absolutely love Switzerland. 👌
Nope! Just the one night 🤷🏼♀️
Great video ! Silly question…. See that absolutely cracking coffee machine….. erm isn’t it 240V supply ? How’re you running it in a Motorhome ? I was just thinking that if you’re using an inverter then the wattage draw must be huge ? But I just lurv it !
Thanks Bruce. Be sure to check this video out about our amazing electrical upgrade that allows us to run things like the coffee machine and even the air conditioning all night whilst off grid The ULTIMATE Off-Grid Motorhome Upgrade?⚡️
th-cam.com/video/21POFx-9RGg/w-d-xo.html
Just checked out your ultimate electrical upgrade video……. 😮😮omg…… I’m gobsmacked. I’d love a setup like that, but (putting aside the cost) just ain’t got the space / payload for that nasa mission control style setup. I live in awe. Love your videos, keep up the good work 👍
Oh, mate, it's been ages since I've driven the Nufenen-Furka-Gotthard Pass route! Your video brings back beautiful memories! And you can put me through as many driving shots as you like! 😁
I don't want to teach my grandmother how to suck eggs (or an experienced moho driver like yourself, how to drive a mountain pass), but as an ex-lorry driver who's passed the Alps several times with 40 t semis I'd like to give you two tips (which you almost certainly already know, but maybe some of your viewers can benefit from it) to make crossing mountains a breeze. First, use the same gear going down a pass that you would use going up it. Never go into a higher gear than that! Second (and you already hinted at that one), make sure your time off the brakes is at least double of your time on the brakes. Follow these two pro tips and you'll never get an overheating problem. 😁😉
Georgie is a natural as your video presenter! Well done! 👍🏽😉
All the best! 🙏🏽😎
Great tips! Thank you for sharing them!
Really interesting driving... almost like "The Italian Job" :)
Also intriguing is how the air con seems to be 'eating' the batteries? How's the electrical install working out in real life conditions? It would fascinating to know
Nice video again
Thanks Andy. I’ve been recording moments in the videos to report to you guys how we’re getting on with the batteries.
Welcome to Switzerland. Great place to be an expat. Most fuel pumps in Switzerland if you look have options for several languages. Wine and coffee beans are usually the only things cheaper in Switzerland than the UK
Gadget John did a fill up in Italy or Austria I think and got just over 1000 miles till empty showing on the dash…. With your bigger van, what does yours show? And do you get close to it when driving?
We get around 450 miles from a tank
Ouch £102 ....the lake was worth it tho guys....great video once again can't wait to see the next one 👍
Thanks Stephen x
Can you list the top roads to drive in Switzerland, trying to plan a trip uk to France, Geneva,Switzerland, italy lake como , any tips on route would be appreciated thanks
This is probably the best website for this information www.ultimatedrives.net/top-10-roads/ there are a few Swiss driving roads on there
Thanks for the list , one day hopefully soon will try to see Switzerland
How do you find out about free park ups in Europe. Is there an app. Hello by the way. Saw you on Matt rv review.
Hi Pamela, we use www.searchforsites.co.uk to find our sites in the UK and throughout Europe. The web version is perfect for us and it’s free to use but there is a small annual charge if you want to use the app
Do they not have clothes dryers if you can't hang clothes lines?
They do, but I’m such a Yorkshire lass it goes against the grain to use a dryer!!!
Do you have a B2B charger in your van?
Hi Finbar it’s Lyndsay, Steve is driving. Have a look at this The ULTIMATE Off-Grid Motorhome Upgrade?⚡️

@@RoamingRadfords Not as exciting as Your Road Trip 👍🏻 Thankyou for your reply & support. Have a Vantastic Journey & All The Best To You & Your Family 🙏♥️👍🏻
We are at 1.75 Euro (£1.49) for diesel in France (near our home) at the moment and there is going to be another reduction by the govenment of 10 to 12 cents next month, plus Total and total express petrol stations say they are going to do another 20 cents from Sept 1 at on top of that, not sure if the others will match that, We could be looking at 1.50 Euro (£1.27) I guess, But who knows things change quickly these days.
Super stuff your lad is a natural in front of the camera. Wow that camp site fees, Out of this world. No wonder there are no Brits 🙂
😊😊😊
Great video, beautiful scenery. George is an amazing presenter, well done!!! Look forward to your next adventure xx
Thanks Melanie x
Quality 😊👍
Nice video

Wow, Switzerland is stunningly beautiful, driving those passes was quite an experience! I think I'll now add Switzerland to my travel list!
Yes Hannah!!!
Hire George as your tour guide. He is very good and a natural, as well as being so cute too.
🤣🤣
Thank for a great video/tour and for letting us in to your lovely family life keep safe and see you in the next video.
Ahh thank you x
What you doing roughly to the gallon were looking into hireing a motor home to do the Scottish 500 me and the mrs looking into getting one if we like it after the journey
We are getting between 22-23 miles per gallon on this trip
@@RoamingRadfords thank you
Can you please tell me the name of the Campsite, Thanks
There is a link and map and all the details you need in the description 😊
I so want to go back to Switzerland
Do it!
Great vídeo, thanks for sharing so much Swiss beauty : the mountains, the roads, the lakes, the history and the cheap camping site !!!!!!
🤣🤣 thanks Diana x
Just wondered when you commented on the language situation at the campsite (information and signage) have you ever thought what it’s like for people from Europe visiting the UK and using campsites. In my experience UK has a distinct lack of info in languages other than English 🤔
Absolutely, as Brits we are very insular with our languages!
@@RoamingRadfords aww think George will be a youtuber when older
Is that £102pn?
Yes
@ Jesus
In the UK the language is also only Englisch en no Dutch, German !
So, where are the dangerous roads in Switzerland? Are there any? Where are they? Just wondering?
Great vlog, great views! When you talked about the mountain roads, I was thinking of how the van is coping in ups and downs. Especially with the steep long downs as you discussed. What is your preferred down hill technique? I usually do continuous engine breaking with the same gear that you use going up (or one smaller). And apply the breaks periodically to cut off speed when the speed increases. You have a heavy van so it must need active driving in those roads.
PS. George is great in front of the camera! TV presenter material 👌
Thanks Ari, that’s exactly how I come down these steep mountains, low gear and on and off the brakes periodically to scrub the speed down as the engine over revs with the weight of the motorhome pushing it down the mountain. And George is doing good on his vlogging isn’t he thanks I’ve fed this back to him 👍
Wow, how lovely, I love the scenery and music 💕
Thank you Amanda x
Just paid $1.68 a litre, in Toronto, which is £1.10, can’t understand why I pay so much less over here than in the UK
I think we pay more tax per litre 🤷🏼♀️
wow thats pricey..... but anyway loved your vlog thou.. enjoy
Thanks Lyn x
£102!!!!!! That’s one expensive dip in the lake 🤪. I’m loving how Georgie’s confidence is growing more and more every time he gets in front of the camera 👍🏻
He’s a legend!!!
Love all these vlogs guys
Thanks Gary
£100 for a site that's madness, although you used £110 for the batteries lol

££££ but only a day I guess. Love Switzerland, I have family there. But soooo expensive for everything! Hey ho.
It is! But for a few days it’s worth every penny!
George is so like his mum!
That lake is such a beautiful swimming spot.
Ahh he’s a legend!

Great series - I went on a road trip recently filming things like engineering feats, Got back i found my files were corrupted! Every part of my being wants to do it again and take the drone footage! Please upload your driving video`s of the passes on perhaps a separate playlist, Love to see them and maybe your additional drone footage...I am sure everyone would agree, we would love to see more!! Steve (Telford ultimate guide)
If your going to Italy can you do the Stelvio Pass? Something I always wanted to do but never got there.
We did it a few years ago and absolutely loved it. We can’t do it on this trip, but maybe again in the future!
Note to George. Get yourself an education so you can find yourself a well paid job when you take over from dad, as at £102 @ night for camping you will need it mate. Great video guys.
🤣🤣🤣

Putting the Drone up was nowhere as dangerous as the overtaking Drone driving the Range Rover ...
🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
Boy oh boy , that was dear !!! Shoot !!! . The place may have been good , but wow , price !!! ... ouch !! .
Wasn’t it Lee, but keep watching because if you think that’s expensive, just wait until we get to Croatia 🇭🇷 😳
