  • In this famous aria by Händel, the Thracian prince Floridante, after arriving at the Persian encampment before Persepolis, is overjoyed to see his beloved Elmira, the supposed daughter of the Persian king Oronte ("My soul, thou art my glory and my bliss"). Originally performed for the castrato Senesino, it was one of the most remembered numbers after the opera's premiere at the King's Theatre in London on December 9, 1721.
Xavier Sabata, countertenor, and Dani Espasa, harpsichord
