  • Installing Curved Zipper with Roll-up Screen in Vinyl Window Material demonstrates how to install a curved zipper opening with roll up screen in a vinyl window, commonly found in boat enclosure curtain panels. This window features a separate zippered screen panel that can be used to keep insects out of the enclosure or can roll up for maximum air flow. This window is a multi-step process and this video walks you through each one.
Boat enclosures are great for keeping out wet sea spray, cold air, or insects. This video is an excerpt from the Sailrite "Make Your Own Full Boat Enclosure DVD" coming at the end of 2012.

I am making an awning for a Sportfisher which will need an opening (a climb through) to access the top deck. I am thinking something like this would work. Or would two separate zippers parallel of each other be easier than creating a curve? Any suggestions would be welcomed, I am new to both sewing and canvas work.

It is easier to climb through a rectangular shaped opening rather than a curved zipper opening. So... you may want to consider that.

I'm considering making my own screen tent with large zippered panels for protection from rain, window, sun, dust and for privacy. I cannot find screen tents like this much less the size I need to fit over the extra large ADA compliant campground picnic tables which are increasingly the norm per state and national requirements. Tenting industry has not caught onto any of this yet. I want a polycotton screen tent. Do any of your products work with tent fabrics? I'm not going to have vinyl window included like for boating. I will only have very very large screen panels with zippered windows consisting of the tent fabric that zips over the large window screens. The window panels openings will be a little smaller than the actual side of the tent. Tent footprint approx 13'X17'.

Yes, Sailrite carries many fabrics and screen materials that work great in tents.

Certain segments of the tenting industry are starting to use polycotton blend fabric...specifically 65 percent cotton/35 percent polyester. They have found that blending the best qualities of each polyester and cotton are minimizing/eliminating the cons and maximizing the pros of each. Specifically, the tents breathe and insulate well, less color fading, fewer rips/tearing and easier upkeep. Given this, I would like my screen tent to serve a few purposes which include the option of emergency survival. Helps me save storage space. Do you think you could help guide me? Currently there is nobody that I know of in the tenting industry who makes the kind of tent I have in mind. I have been camping my whole life in many tents and rv types. My father, in the 1960s, handmade our family's "car top tent" from a blueprint in Sunset Magazine. We travelled the US for many years with that tent. So innovative tenting is in my blood? Lol! Appreciate any help/input from you experts.
