      They actually did with those small mining buildings that take 30 seconds to clear.
      it takes about 20 seconds to get through the airlock - each way.
      So the smallest of buildings have a ridiculously long animation sequence - but the largest are just instant portals.

    Because it is still running on Gamebryo - renamed and modified, but it still carries the same limitations, including the fact it needs to separate exterior and interior cells, otherwise the engine would try to melt your GPU down.
    On top of that, it loads exteriors on a cell basis, so exteriors also have loading screens, just hidden from you by pre-loading.
    Engine is also the reason why you won't ever see major crowds of NPCs in this game - Gamebryo and its derivatives really do not like handling multiple NPCs at the same time.

      At this point, people who trust in Bethesda are masochists, their engine is more than 10 years old that's why they carry so many problems.

    • @Bazzookie
      @Bazzookie 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      To be honest the landing and takeoff cutscenes are an easy fix. There's a bug where during landing for example the camera stays in cockpit, so it's entirely possible to make certain sequences feel more "seamless." It was clearly an artistic choice rather than a technical one.

    • @davidmoloney3401
      @davidmoloney3401 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I disagree with the landing a takeoff cut scenes, in fact a lack of landing a take off cutscenes would break immersion, since there is a no seamless takeoff.
      What is bad is the fact that take off isn't a tactical loading screen, literally the animation does absolutely nothing. You have to watch the animation and the endure a loading screen.
      Doors could be connected to an animations which is hidden behind a loading screen as well. Sure, some loading screens are fine, but what's bothers me is how short they are, some are no longer than 3-4 seconds and could have easily been an animation.
      Loading screens are needed, and pretty much every game you play has them. It's just some games hide them better than others.

For devices that are not powerful enough, your 3s animation would end way before the loading is completed. So what then? Frozen animation or rinse and repeat? In an open world setting you form a relationship to your surroundings and get to know certain parts very naturally. This feeling of discovery and just the fact that you travel through the world is nonexistent in Starfield. You can’t even walk through the main city without feeling like you‘re accessing different bubbles of content. It‘s not fluent and not immersive. It's really impressive, the game should feel like one of the state of the art - kind of games out there but surely doesnt feel or play like that.
    The performative expectations where definitely oversold but I still think its a good game, I enjoy it. The developers definitely had to work with limitations like that it needs to work on xbox

      Self imposed limitations. The only person forcing Bethesda to continue using Gamebryo engine is Todd. He's too lazy and stuck in his ways at this point to allow them to take the time to properly update the engine, like Infinity Ward did for the IW engine for MW 2018, or switch to an entirely new engine. It'll never happen while he's with the company though, because he'll always hide behind the excuse that there's no reason to switch engines because fans like the games the way they are, and it's easy for them to mod since they're familiar with it. In reality, Todd just doesn't want to do the work of learning a new game engine after spending his entire career working with this one. It would actually force him out of his comfort zone and make him have to re-evaluate a lot of his outdated game design ideals. I can't believe he actually played this game in 2023 and thought they could release it and get critical acclaim when it looks and places like a game from last gen at best.

    Can they really not create some sort of proximity based loading, it's not like the engine's code is inaccessible? Leaving the ship isn't even a matter of loading stuff but unloading which I assume can be done in the background.
    There's actually a mod which eliminates some of the loading screens even though it makes some of the loading visible. Some of the loading screens seem slightly longer than needed.

    All I’m saying is even Cyberpunk didn’t need to incur loading screen during the ENTIRE game when loading new areas (fast travel doesn’t count, I mean on foot or car), even on release. It was also made on an outdated engine that was used for the Witcher games.

    • @brandoncooper2909

      RED Engine wasn't outdated. The continually updated it during the production of CP2077, and did up until they dropped it for UE5 last year. Ray tracing, Path Tracing, and tons of other tech that literally didn't exist when the Witcher was built and released was integrated into the engine, and it's an utter shame that they're dropping it for UE5 because it's one of the most impressive proprietary engines in the industry at the moment. Hell, just look at loading screens. The Witcher 3 still needed loading screens when going to different areas like the Skellig Isles wheras other than fast traveling or transitions in the story Cyberpunk has next to no loading screen. I could count them on both hands.

    I think another reason why Beth won't change their engine is that the game would lose modders' support.
    See all those mods on Nexus? Those are made by by guys who pre-ordered the premium addition. And they are so familiar with the frame work of the Gamebyro / Creation that they can start work almost immediately like fixing bugs, doing optimizations etc.
    A brand new engine always has a learning curve. For BGS, it is their job and they are paid to do so and to learn. But for modders it is a passion project, if the engine changes too radically or require too much time to learn, there is a very high chance they call it quits.

Bear in mind my loading screens are fast AF for me on my fairly beefy rig - like split seconds most of the time but when I really look at this game, It is just loading into small zones after small zones. A space game like this should be seamless and open world with curated material scattered around. Instead, its a vast network of small zones that requires loading after loading for the player to bounce around the game which ruined it for me Personally.

      @codesavei9613 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Doing everything seamless with the level of complexity of quests and amount of features in a Bethesda game with current hardware sounds crazy. No Man Sky does it seamless because it is much more simplistic graphically, feature wise and the planet’s procedural generation is frankly shit. Starfield compromised seamlessness for more complexity that is required in an RPG.
      Like imagine, dropping fast from space into a building through a window with all the cluttee with physics, interactable NPCs, complex geometry etc while also loading the position of the clutter you left behind. It is taxing.
      With No man sky the game got incredible dull once you get used to seamless take off. The procedural generation and stuff to do in it , questing, interactable physics objects etc doesn’t come anywhere close to Starfield. But NMS instead has the cool seamless taking off. Everything cool has a compromise somewhere for games nowadays.
      Starfield put it priorities elsewhere. As expected they care more about classic Bethesda questing and roleplaying.
