The Big Push wasn’t a metal band. Also, Ren didn’t go solo after he “separated” from The Big Push - He was always solo. He joined the band, while continuing his solo multi-genre stuff. Ren has been making beats since he was 10 years old. The only reason the band is no longer together is because the members’ lives took them in different directions, such as Ren going to Canada. They do hope to eventually get back together.
They haven't gone their own separate ways, they've taken a break whilst Ren is out of the UK. They were all solo artists in their own right before they formed The Big Push.
@Damo, Ren himself said they went in separate directions. Glen the drummer got married and moved away and is an accountant or something now. Ren said they're all still on good terms, but they're all on different parts of the globe
@@adamreed6336 He might be an accountant or whatever NOW. But the big push "The Big Push"(And Ren) has gotten lately, well deserved I might add, could change that I think. I mean, I don´t think anyone dreams of being an accountant, it´s more one of those things you end up doing for whatever reason. But if you could choose, would you do at least a couple albums and tours or not? Returning to whatever job he has now is always possible, but you only get one chance of being a star, even if it´s only for a set period of time. But hey, maybe he likes his privacy etc. and just wants to chill at home with the family. I for one would love to see "The Big Push" play some more though, preferably live.
No, they cover lots of genres. War Pigs mash up cover is definitely worth a watch. I remember seeing him about 10 years ago busking alone in Brighton. He was great then and still is. Whether it's with his band or solo, everything he produces is gold.
The reason he sticks out is because he is TALENTED. He has been busking since he was like 12 or something. He writes, produces his own music, beats and all and the music videos. He has no genre - he is a genre bending genius.

Hi Ren was the door most of us walked through. I found this song, this version almost immediately upon falling down the REN rabbit hole. After finding 100 other songs, I can say REN is part of my daily playlist. Watching reactions is a great way to see and hear songs again for the first time, because you yourself only get to be blown away once. This reaction was super fun and genuine, recognizing the genius of the whole bands performance. Someone here suggested having a REN reaction day each week, I second this. Also that War Pigs mashup is dope!
He is a skilled frontman ❤️ He has said it many times it’s doing it preforming in front of people over and over. The band is great not only from their skill but the JOY. He doesn’t have a genre he mixes in everything he loves and we love it. As a old lady I haven’t dug on anyone this hard in too long. The joy ,not posturing not BSing as we would have said in my day He’s not a f*cking poser Man. ☮️
like many others have said, i (a metalhead) found ren through “hi ren” and was blown away. dove in to his back catalogue and he’s now one of my favorite artists. afaik he has only done 1 video of metal songs, but it doesn’t matter to me. his personality is so magnetic and he’s so damn talented i would listen to him sing the dictionary 😂
My dudes, first of all, thanks so much for doing more Ren and The Big Push. Ren had a few metal influences but didn’t have a metal band. He started off making beats when he was young, maybe 12 or so, sold his cds of beats at festivals over in the UK - he’s Welsh, and has always lived in the UK as far as I know. He continued to make his own music from then on. Ren is different. He is of no certain genre. His catalogue of music covers multiple genres and doesn’t fit in a box of any kind. Guys, we are witnessing something that hard to understand…he’s really that good. You’re right! He plays guitar, bass (check out his bass flex on Big Push’s ‘Wade in the Water/Trouble so Hard’), his piano skills are insane, drums, cello…I’m sure I’m missing some… It’s my understanding that he met the rest of the guys in the Big Push from busking on the streets of Brighton, UK. The band is not together currently for different reasons. Part of it is bc Ren had to go to Canada for his treatment (for up to a year), Romain (dark hair) is French, has his own solo music and I believe he wanted to visit family he hadn’t seen in a while, Gorran (playing bass on this) has solo music as well, I don’t know a lot about the drummer Glen, I need to read up on him. The Big Push are extremely talented, they rotate instruments and they all sing lead, it all depends on the song. They have released their own music together as a band. Check out their YT page, they are super cool and they are adored by the people of Brighton as well as all over the world. I’m sure there are some folks from Brighton here in the comments that can give you the scoop!
Good news is that Ren and Big Push have a lot of stuff. Immediately after this song they swung into an epic Black Sabbath/RATM medley. The transition is fun.
Amazing reaction guys. I'm sure most of the comments have covered our love for Ren and his endless abilities musically and performance wise so I would like to add to the conversation regarding Ren's ability to sound like he does performing this particular type of music. There is a lot of cross cultural influence between UK and the Caribbean islands through migrated population, music, and foods. Chris Blackwell was a white British 22 year old (who was actually raised in Jamaica) when he founded Island records (Bob Marley's label) and helped to bring a lot of those sounds to the UK and then around the world. So when you hear a lot of ska and reggae influence in UK music that's definitely one of the main reasons.
I am obsessed with this I watch it all the time! Nice react 🖤 Back to watch again. There were a lot of Jamaicans came over during WindRush so reggae and ska are massive over here. He was in Trick The Fox before TBP but there is nothing musically he can’t do.
Bob Marley's father was actually an english naval officer... and also, the history of reggae music, specially the two-tone ska sub-genre is linked to the UK a lot.
Guys from this same busking performance, they did a mash up of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” & “Paranoid” along with Rage Against The Machine’s “Killing in the Name of”, so check that one out as well. For more Ren diversity, check out “The Hunger”, “What You Want”, “Life is Funny”, “Humble” with Eden Nash and since you reacted to Fatboy Slim’s “Right Here, Right Now” check out Ren’s Right Here, Right Now”(Fatboy Slim one shot retake).
Man that reaction to the opening of the song was priceless 😂 and I think answers why he is blowing up at the moment ... most have discovered Ren through Hi Ren... but as they start diving through his catalogue, you soon realise the guy is on another level.. he can do it all 👍😂 With that black sabbath t-shirt on you need to checkout the follow-on song of "War Pigs", another mashup, same session, as this mash up.... so good👍 👍
Obviously I'm part and one of the amassing movement of seismic proportions that is otherwise known as fans of Ren. I'd like to take a moment to shout out to you guys. Not for the Ren content you guys are uploading, of course that's always a treat to watch, but for both of you being genuinely and authentically you. That may sound a little odd from a relative stranger and by relative I mean "comparative to" and not in the alternate literal sense being I'm an actual relative who's also a stranger, likely due to some dark family secret that you've not been privy to. Play on words aside, you guys and your channel content is a joy to watch. Your genuine love for music is clear as day and exudes through the screen effortlessly without gimmick, gag or hitch. Informatively fun and infectious if I had to sum it up in fewer words, which clearly I did not. Much love and love much, so below as above, in our heart we must trust. Only this much I know to be true💜💫💜💫💜💫
After discovering Ren and going through his vast catalog of covers, solo work, colabs, and interviews... I have quickly and unabashedly put him up in my top 2 artists with TooL. Both Tool(Maynard specifically) and Ren have similar beliefs about society and spirituality as well as music as an art form relating to Lachrymology(the harnessing of pain and suffering in life to achieve a higher spiritual understanding). I haven't cried so much from listening to a musician, and been touched by his life story ever before. He is a treasure to mankind and NEEDS to be heard by everyone... full stop. This man has suffered for his art in a way that most could NEVER understand. YOU NEED TO DO A DEEP DIVE AND REACT TO HIS WHOLE CATALOG LIKE YOU DID WITH TOOL... PLEASE!!!! GIVE HIM ALL THE EXPOSURE AND SUPPORT YOU CAN!!! He deserves to be held up high among the greats. His soul, his spirit, his voice, his mind, and his heart is beautiful in every way... no I feel like a damn simp... damn it, I don't care. Give him his own day of the week for reactions... YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!
@@Apollo.Rising Yeah, the other day I was wondering what he could do with Chop Suey (not the food, of course, but the song). I know he and Push would kill it (metaphorically, not literally).
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for this reaction!! This will push REN’S music/talents into the outer stratosphere! This man is multitalented and deserves all the praise’s & recognition! He has a lot of Reggae vibes in his catalog of music, the last 10 years!!
Several English dialects have more than a little carribean influence, I believe, because of the high number of carribean immigrants there (even back in the 60's/70's). Which is pretty unique in a European context, I believe.
I think the reason he’s blowing up at this time is because the masterpiece Hi Ren brought him a spotlight that led us all to his larger body of work. There are other talented artists out there, so it’s not his creativity and talent alone I think it is his authenticity and vulnerability that resonates with so many people. Also his lifetime of pushing through adversity to pursue your passion. It’s not just the art that we love, but the man.
I think to speak to your original question: Ren's blowing up because he's outside of any genre. People who aren't generally "hiphop" fans are coming to his music from other things, and finding that they still dig it. Which is awesome, because music is music, and good music will resonate, regardless of what arbitrary label you usually listen to.
He's Welsh ( yes, Wales is part of Great Britain) and English is his second language, per his interview, he speaks about learning English in school and "fell in love" with it. His interview with Knox is DEFINITELY worth the watch. Great reaction guys ❤
Just had to lol at ziggy stardust??? Wth. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 edit to add... hi ren blew up with reactors, Ren already had a loyal following but youtube reactors helped push him to the forefront of our consciousness. And not before time. Plus his back catalogue is vast and diverse and quality transcends genre. Second edit...i forgive you not knowing Road to Zion lol cos you clearly loved this. X
Ren and The Big Push cross all boundaries. Generational boundaries. Cultural boundaries. Ethnic boundaries. All boundaries are crossed until there are no boundaries at all. The whole world can then claim this body of work as their own.
Morning fellas! That was awesome! I swear there was reggae, blues, ska, and hip hop all mixed up in one/together! And those guitar solos were great! Good choice guys!🤓❤️
I shot the Sheriff ~ Bob Marley Road to Zion ~ Damien “Junior GonG” Marley feat. Nas Hip-Hop ~ Dead Prez I’m glad you guys did this. REN is a Bard, I will forever keep on saying that. Dudes pure magic ✨🤘🏼REN has such a big blow up because REN isn’t a Rapper. He is an Artist that does everything. He is an Artisan. He’s such a phenomenal rapper because he’s NOT a rapper. That’s why he gets the recognition he does.
Why is he finally blowing up? Well, it's not hat he was metal, because he wasn't. It started with "Hi Ren" and then we learned that the man had a tremendous amount of diversity and an extensively great back catalog going back ten years and more. He seems great at everything he does. His numerous live and/or onetake videos show an impressive, extensive range and passion for music. He can easily stand side by side with Eminem, Hendrix, Marley, or Dylan. A very select few can do that. In fact, I can't name another as diverse as he is. Beyond that, he attracts a good amount of empathy for what he has gone through and how he has expressed that struggle lyrically and he also has gained respect for how he behaves through social media. Further, when he collaborates, and he collabs a lot, he shares the spotlight with others who seem to share his seemingly pure love of music with fantastic talents of their own. Ren expresses his own empathy and understanding of other's struggles through his own lyrics and displays a love and appreciation of all facets of music with his diverse influences.
If you want to see him rock the Bass, Check out Wade in the water/Nina Simone/Trouble so hard! Ren is blowing up because he's more than just talented! The man is a fucking genius!! 💯
I never heard of Ren till I stumbled across Hi Ren, and I've been just delving back into his catalogue. His band wasn't a "metal band" but more of a classic rock/blues band.
Any genre Ren and The Big Push rock at 😁👊 they really jel together playing together. Busking in Brighton they pull a crowd. They played War Pigs after this and another killer mashup 😎👊👊 Great reaction guys 🙏🙏
Ren was a busker for years.... Buskers are musicians in the UK who play on the street out in public.... just imagine popping out to the shop and walking past these guys jamming on the corner! There was huge migration from the carribean to London and the UK over the last 100 years, and longstanding afro-carribean communities. Music styles have developed together in the UK...
The Big Push has original songs as well as covers. Ren on his own has a ton of original songs. Great reaction guy’s ❤😊 The list of what Ren can’t do would definitely be shorter than what he can do. I’m not sure there would be anything on the can’t do side.
The Big Push don't just do covers (which is what 99% of the reactions seem to be to), it is well worth checking out some of the proper music videos for their original songs on the bands TH-cam channel.
I think people relate on a higher level either from being able to emphasize with his mental struggles or can sympathize with his medical issues. Not to say these other artist aren't going through things, its only Ren expresses it brilliantly through his music, his acting, lyrics etc. We want to see him succeed after such a struggle, you can't help but to pull for him. *edit/add - cant forget about the tremendous talent he has across all genres of music, there's something for everyone, depending on your mood
He's the real deal fellas...and this may be a bold statement but I believe he is the best all around musician...EVER. Like for real I can not recall anyone with the versatility he has and the all around talent. He slays everything he touches
I explore new music across many genres all the time. In my experience there are no similar artists anywhere -- Ren is a unicorn, a one-off, in his own lane. The creativity and talent just radiates out of him. I have never heard anything he's done in any genre that he didn't totally nail. And he's charismatic as hell. The word genius gets thrown around too much in the music world, but in Ren's case, it's completely deserved.
Great reaction and appreciation. Every time you react it is with open minds and a healthy knowledge of music and what constitutes talent. Thank you both. These make my day.
Ren blew up like this, because he shows vulnerability through his music and he sings about topics that people relate to and that also give people hope. 😊 That's my theory...
On the subject of the accent. In the UK, if you drive for 2 hours, the local accent can change 3 times, and we will mimick each others accent and sayings. Thats why British actors often have a strong accent game.
I think Ren blew up so much cuz “Hi Ren” was so profound that it made him stand out & therefore caused people to look up his whole catalog. Which showed us what an amazingly versatile artist he is.
The Big Push have two other video's from this session playing rock/metal. One song is "War Pigs" by Black Sabbath and the other is "Paint It Black" by The Rolling Stones, Ren plays bass on that song. There's also a video of Ren playing piano in a train station with his boy Sam Tompkins and they both song their asses off.
C'mon guys, you knew this was coming :) As for the band, Ren responded to an add looking for a roommate which is how he fell in with Gorran, then they started doing stuff together. Gorran knew Romain from other bits and they just kinda... started busking together, add in Glen .. .and boom, The Big Push lives. They're on hiatus while Ren gets his stuff sorted in Canada but they've left the door open, meanwhile all of them are doing 'their own thing' right now. If you're interested.... For The Big Push themselves - I personally suggest Sweet Little Lady (Live acoustic version), Swan Song, Englishman in New York, ah hell, they've got too many Gorran - lots of stuff but I'm particularly fond of the live version of "If" Romain - again, lots of stuff but "Love Without Feelings" hit pretty solid (and he's playing piano!) also he's got what sounds like a banger coming out on the 26th Glenn - unfortunately I've just not been able to find anything, I'm sure its out there but it has thus far escaped me.
Ren sings it all. Plays multiple instruments. He is a producer video Grapher. ❤Ren. Lyrics beyond his years of age. Very special and I pray his treatments in Canada after 11 yrs of misdiagnosis that he is healthy and blows us all away. ❤ the independent artist kicking butt. But stays very humble.
Gentlemen! If you like your old skool, you gotta check out 'What You Want'. Ren's respect for the history of the art and his sense of fun all come flowing out.
The Big Push does a version of War Pigs, by Black Sabbath. Well worth a listen. Ren is a beast along with the guys in The Big Push. Unfortunately they are no longer together.
Solid reaction guys! Loved all of it!!! Ren is probably one of the most diverse artists of this time. For me it’s like when your a kid, you go to the fair, and you see that 1 guy band with drums, harmonica, etc, and just stare amazed. Ren is like that, but for adults. Hope y’all do “Rock” Ren and check out his release “Fire”.
The Big push does a Warpigs cover in this same set. I recommend that video for sure. It’s amazing and mixes in some rage against the machine and all that crazy stuff!
Ren is from Wales. When a vocal coach reacted he commented that the placement of his mouth/tongue when singing was extremely precise in a way you don't do when it's natural. His take was that Ren's Jamaican sound is deliberate, and he taught himself. There is a big Jamaican community in London....
Ren's making it big because most of the stuff he comes up with is pure genius. + The Big Push are far from a metal band, I'd even struggle to call them a rock band if we're going by their original music. They've obv done covers that would make you think they are, but their own stuff is just too chill to class it as rock or metal.
Another great reaction! I’m sure you’ve gotten a request for most of REN’s songs but here’s my vote for Blind Eyed w/ Sam Tompkins (official video, not the live version) Sam is like the UK version of Justin T. For a non-Ren reaction, your next Muse video should be Kill or Be Killed. Matt goes Hard in this one 🤯.

Ren being here in canada for health reasons a big part of why he's here without them 💔

I love #Ren #TheBigPush busking stuff 🔥🔥💕🔥🔥
Not a metal band, but The Big Push did cover Black Sabbath. Ren stated on a stream that he's a big System Of A Down fan.
I would LOVE to see Ren cover a SOAD song, I bet he'd kill it
@@Apollo.Rising Yeah, the other day I was wondering what he could do with Chop Suey (not the food, of course, but the song). I know he and Push would kill it (metaphorically, not literally).
And a big rage against the machine fan.
Big Push War Pigs Cover. You will enjoy it very much. ❤🔥
@@Dog_will_hunt Yes, there's a little bit of "Killing in the Name" in their War Pigs mashup.
Ren, is so talented that he can do any genre of music. That is why people love him and his music!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for this reaction!! This will push REN’S music/talents into the outer stratosphere! This man is multitalented and deserves all the praise’s & recognition! He has a lot of Reggae vibes in his catalog of music, the last 10 years!!
'Humble,' with Eden Nash, is one of my all-time favorite songs--definitely reggae vibes! 🌴
Ren's "Love Music" parts 1, 2 and 3 will blow you away.
There are other talented artists out there, so it’s not his creativity and talent alone
I think it is his authenticity and vulnerability that resonates with so many people.
Wth. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
edit to add... hi ren blew up with reactors, Ren already had a loyal following but youtube reactors helped push him to the forefront of our consciousness.
Amazing how rocking this is even at a slower tempo!
Then when the tempo picks up, it hits big!
Plus, that's really great guitar work!
One of the best authentic reactions ❤
Great to share this with you both. Ren's a class act eh, top notch, and The Big Push, talent all round
I reckon 30 seconds after Ren started singing in this reaction, you'd answered your own question at the beginning! Great reaction guys 🤗
Morning fellas! That was awesome! I swear there was reggae, blues, ska, and hip hop all mixed up in one/together! And those guitar solos were great! Good choice guys!🤓❤️
Just purely good stuff. Talented abound! It is good see this coming our way. This whole band are musical geniuses.
I shot the Sheriff ~ Bob Marley
Road to Zion ~ Damien “Junior GonG” Marley feat. Nas
Hip-Hop ~ Dead Prez
I’m glad you guys did this. That’s why he gets the recognition he does.
lu et approuvé 💯🔥💖💪🙏👏👍
That one fails to get the attention it deserves from reactors.
I like the way you understated that last sentence. He melts my head!
I never heard of Ren till I stumbled across Hi Ren, and I've been just delving back into his catalogue. His band wasn't a "metal band" but more of a classic rock/blues band.
Yuuuus! So glad you're reacting to this, and looking forward to seeing your facial reactions *clicks play*
satisfying as hell. They still think the big push is where Ren “came from” ahahahahahaha
They also did War Pigs/Killing in the name of/Paranoid.
Any genre Ren and The Big Push rock at 😁👊 they really jel together playing together. Busking in Brighton they pull a crowd. They played War Pigs after this and another killer mashup 😎👊👊
Great reaction guys 🙏🙏
You should do THE BIG PUSH- WAR PIGS, it's cover and medley also similar to this....
I believe he sticks out because Hi Ren was a masterpiece. He is multi talented, bends genres and he has connected with the chronically ill
This is a banger it's so awesome and amazing it just makes me relax and chill take care guys
Still not sure how one single person on this planet was gifted so much talent AND great looks AND an over the top amazing personality!
...and rockin' a Grateful Dead shirt to boot! ✌️❤
He's the real deal fellas...and this may be a bold statement but I believe he is the best all around musician...EVER. Like for real I can not recall anyone with the versatility he has and the all around talent. He slays everything he touches
Ren can sing!! Like sing sing! He has a great voice! Can’t wait for you to do more singing Ren songs! 😊
He definitely can do metal, there's a video of him and The Big Push covering Black Sabbath's War Pigs.
Ren blew up like this, because he shows vulnerability through his music and he sings about topics that people relate to and that also give people hope. 😊 That's my theory...
He's also a tremendously talented pianist!
The hunger, chalk outlines, i forgot how to be me. There is a huge rabbit hole i think i can say we would love to watch you go down
On the subject of the accent.
Ren can do any type of voice - He sings Frank Sinatra beautifully.
Making him guess the title made me chuckle.
C'mon guys, you knew this was coming :)
As for the band, Ren responded to an add looking for a roommate which is how he fell in with Gorran, then they started doing stuff together.
For The Big Push themselves - I personally suggest Sweet Little Lady (Live acoustic version), Swan Song, Englishman in New York, ah hell, they've got too many
Gorran - lots of stuff but I'm particularly fond of the live version of "If"
Romain - again, lots of stuff but "Love Without Feelings" hit pretty solid (and he's playing piano!) also he's got what sounds like a banger coming out on the 26th
Glenn - unfortunately I've just not been able to find anything, I'm sure its out there but it has thus far escaped me.
I think he appeals to a lot of people because he comes across as authentic and hes talented.
Easy answer: The only thing Ren can't do is disappoint.
Bongo Bong and Praise show the amazing talent in The Big Push,,must check thm out.
I came here to recommend War Pigs too.
Brighton England. My old home town. Used to watch them all the time.
Wish I was there. Exactly what I thought when I saw this first time. Or that War pigs one.
Love ren and the big push❤ recommend sweet little lady official video😊 awesome reaction!
Yeah, Big Push, War Pigs next. Fantastic cover.
Big Push - War Pigs will blow your mind.
Ren is from Wales. When a vocal coach reacted he commented that the placement of his mouth/tongue when singing was extremely precise in a way you don't do when it's natural. His take was that Ren's Jamaican sound is deliberate, and he taught himself. There is a big Jamaican community in London....
What he can’t do? Well, so far I haven’t seen him play the oboe..
Another great band.😊😊
Ren's making it big because most of the stuff he comes up with is pure genius. + The Big Push are far from a metal band, I'd even struggle to call them a rock band if we're going by their original music. They've obv done covers that would make you think they are, but their own stuff is just too chill to class it as rock or metal.
Guys should check out their war pigs cover which was the next song after this set.
Busking a street performance for spare change ! ❤it! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
His song FIRE probably the closest to rock I've seen but REN DOES IT ALL
Fire is fire 🔥
We have quite a big Caribbean population here in the UK
I have loved Ska and Reggae since my teens and am retired now.
Loved this reaction
Fire is kind of rock...TBP has a song called Sweet Little Lady that is a little more like rock or alt rock. It's so good, though.
Yeah
He can do it all❤
You would also like one of Rens rock songs like the song Fire
Another great reaction! I’m sure you’ve gotten a request for most of REN’s songs but here’s my vote for Blind Eyed w/ Sam Tompkins (official video, not the live version) Sam is like the UK version of Justin T. For a non-Ren reaction, your next Muse video should be Kill or Be Killed. Matt goes Hard in this one 🤯.
Check out The Big Push covering Paint it Black. Ren kills it on bass.
He told everyone in Illest: Extra terrestrial, tentacles, alien
Wearing that exact Black Sabbath shirt while I'm watching this
