Ibanez TS10 - The King of Tube Screamers - Stevie Ray Vaughan and John Mayer and Gary Moore Agree..

- For my Presets visit: johnnathancord... The Ibanez TS10 has become a bit sought after since it is known for being the TS of choice for SRV, John Mayer, Gary Moore, and probably a few other folks. And it looks pretty cool. A Tube Screamer is a Tube Screamer, mostly, but the TS10 does have a few notable circuit differences to some of the other Tube Screamers, so maybe it is just a tiny bit magic?

I'm with you - definitely a fan of the TS10 sound, your description of the "softness" captures it well, I think! Similarly though, I'm also not confident I'd pick it out in a blind test.
Incredible intro track, a real gem.
That intro alone deserves millions upon millions of views. So tastefully played.
I have this one. I was shocked at how much it's worth now. I paid about $80 for mine, in the 80s.
John. That sounds stunning! As usual, fantastic playing mate 👌
Tasty Chops as always my Man!!! Congrats on the session work. Your going places.
Great, great intro!!!
For some reason I get golf / fishing game vibes from your music
Ahahahahaha 🤣
It’s almost uncomfortable how accurate that statement is 😂
I’ve always thought you are a great song writer. Endless beautiful harmonies.
Beautiful work
I've never bonded with TS types, but this sounds pretty glorious. Bit of a smoother zendrive thing going on?
You already own the best Tubescreamer, it is its twin the Metalscreamer. I never bonded with any other TS. But don‘t tell anyone untill I bought a second one.
Hi John, what guitar model is this? You make it sound beyond gorgeous!
I have a TS10 and a TS5... and a Donner clone with a bass boost.
They all sound good.
I gravitate towards the 5. It was the first one I had, and I think it sounds the warmest. It’s the basis of my crunch rhythm tone.
The 10 I set up in a very lightly overdriven treble boost.
The Donner I bought so I wasn’t bringing old fragile pedals out of the house. The bass boost is a nice addition though, and it does have its own thing.
The 808 model in the HXFX is very close to the 5. I can get very close to the sounds of both if I work at it.
Could you shootout this original TS-10 against the new Wampler Moxie (TS10 inspired)?
Funny how times change. When I bought mine ('86) they had just stopped making the TS-9 and these were considered garbage--so much so that I modified mine to sound like the TS-9 and hid it in my gear so know one would know it wasn't authentic. 😁
I’m using a nobles od-1 with a treble boost. Nobles is smooth and the treble boost is glorious. Texas twang.
My favorite screamer (or part screamer) is the Eternity/Cot dual pedal by Lovepedal.
Perhaps you got a "Tube Soother." I like the sound as well.
I remember seeing these on sale for under $100 like 7-8 years ago. They're now going for closer to $1000. I love the pedal, but you'd be a fool to spend more than $200 on one of these.
Bought one of these 15 years ago, paid € 100 for it. They where considered crap, back then, TS 808 seemed to be the only one worthy of the name Tubescreamer.
Funny, how hypes come and go...
You can still buy new TS10s from the original manufacturer, using the original components (including the fabled op-amp), it’s just not called the TS10 and doesn’t come in the plastic stompbox. Can’t remember how much they are at RRP, but I picked mine up fairly recently for £50.

@@Joejoe-nt3gc look up the schematics for the current Maxon reissues, you should be able to find out which one is a TS10 in disguise. Still made in Japan as well.
Thanks to John Mayer these are going for heaps. Luckily got mine for 50bux ...
Agree with comment on clones. It’s a shame the TS10 was built so cheaply. It’s basically a disposable pedal. Would like to see Ibanez reissue the TS10 with improved build quality and better foot switch.
Definitely no sizzle! Would like to get your take on the new Wampler.
wonder how it compares to the Behringer TS clone
You should do that comparison, would be a fun one.👍
Any interest in the new Wampler Moxie?
Mine arrives tomorrow.
@@methatswho8304 Let me know how you like it
amazing tone. whats the clean tone from
Why not compare to the HX Stomp ones while your at it.
Or the jhs bonsai set to ts10 mode
2:58 - none of those changes make difference to the sound. Additional 220 ohm resistor implies 2% smaller input volume, what is below components tolerance in the rest of the circuit (5-20% for resistors and potentiometers). Extra follower works in bypass only, and the input stage works in both bypass and fx-on modes all the time without adding any coloration to the sound. There is no clones of ts10 because there is nothing to clone.
The pedal was a "sleeper" because it is a cheap pedal made as exact replacement for the expensive TS9 during the crisis of Japanese economy. The potentiometers are made of plastic, audio sockets are made of plastic and mounted directly to the PCB, what makes them very fragile. SRV and others bought this pedal because at the time it was the only new TS pedal available for sale, and Mayer bought it because he is a fan of vintage gear.
I bought a metal screamer now 😂 sounds identical to me, just gotta go a little more on the treble to match the ts10… I have a feeling that it’s going to appreciate when people figure out it’s the same s@&$ as the ts10.
Update… so I got the Ibanez MSL Metal Screamer and I’ve had it for a little while. Holy moly, so glad you made this episode John. It sounds better than any other OD I’ve heard in person. It is the sleeper tube screamer now…. I got it for a steal deal for $130US off of ebay 😂. Wow man, can’t thank you enough for saving me $$$$ on a TS10 style circuit. It sounds so much better “softer” like you said and maybe even a little less compressed than my ts9; which is still a great pedal, but the MSL is significantly different…, and much better in my opinion. Thx again sir, and keep up the great work!
It’s pretty expensive now
Jeff healey also
Your moms the best tube screamer
They are all over hyped, but useful in situations. There's really no magic, I have 20 clones, 5 real vintage ones too. They all sound the same except like one of them, and the Metal Screamer has a bit more low end.
I have a TS7. It kinda sucks but cheap.
Hey John, plz check Patreon inbox msg, thanks!
no
No. Hell, a Tube Screamer isn't even the best tube screamer.
