- Another contender for the most beautiful town in the USA. Visiting the small 19th century town of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia is literally like stepping through a time portal and walking into history. It's been immaculately preserved or in some cases, reconstructed. It's super small, with less than 300 full time residents, but there's plenty to see and do. Just walking around town and seeing the beautiful architecture, shops, and restaurant is fun enough, but the nature in Harpers Ferry is also amazing!
It's located at approximately the halfway point of the Appalachian Trail and there's hikes all around town. You can hike to get views overlooking the town and it's amazing to see from above. It's located at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers and is surrounded by rocky cliffs, and both a car bridge over the river and a railroad trestle. Kayaking and rafting the river is another popular pastime in the area.
It's also located right where three states meet, Maryland, West Virginia, and Virginia. But only the lovely, underrated state of West Virginia really gets to claim this charming gem. Another thing I love about Harpers Ferry is that it's beautiful to visit in any season.
If you haven't been to visit yet, I highly recommend it. It's a must do for anyone traveling on the east coast.

Hi Ik I’m late but if this could get pinned it’d be great. I am from Harpers Ferry and I wil say the battlefields are beautifle, there is a nice creek by the house and there are plenty of gorgeous things there. In the historic Harpers Ferry they have a nice grassy area, good ice cream, and even a bakery. Everything is beautiful I couldn’t have asked for a better home!

Harper's Ferry is just a speed bump for western Marylanders on their way to the casino at Charles Town. WV . The next town over.
WVa is a beautiful state.

I love Harpers Ferry. I live on the east coast so I visit it when I can. There's a host of small businesses to support. And a lot of historical facts.
I've lived in WV my whole life, and there are hundreds if not thousands of places that are just beyond words when it comes to beautiful landscapes and views. Like a lot of things, don't judge a book by it's cover, and don't knock it till u try it

I currently live only a few miles from the WV line in Virginia's northernmost county. Everything is beautiful. When I commute back for work I cut through Charles Town and Harpers Ferry. It's like a tourism poster.
I only write because of your comment about judging a book by its cover. 40 some odd years ago I lived in Logan County WV for 6 months. Let's put it this way. If you saw the book cover I saw, you'd bleach your eyes out. 😁 From the county clerk telling me I had to register as a democrat, to people opening the back door and putting out the trash, literally, to miners clubbing each other over contracts. It was a culture shock.
One of quaint things I remember was trading in my Maryland license at the St Police barack at the county seat, logan city, where once a week the dmv lady would stop by and administer the written driving test to the kids. A state trooper would administer the practical test, If a kid didn't have a car, the trooper would get his cruiser and they'd drive it around town for the kid to demonstrate he knew how to drive. Something you wouldn't see these days.
@@ShenandoahShelty i am from Maryland near Harpers Ferry. I used to live in West By God. A lot of my family lives right on the other side of the bridge, in Sandy Hook/ Knoxville area, off of U.S. 340, where West By God, Virginia and Maryland meet together.
@@georgekidwell9409 That whole swath from Frederick County MD through to Frederick County VA , with WVA in the middle is so picturesque and rich with colonial and civil war history.

I live near here. The main hike across the river is amazing. Gets pretty crowded on weekends. The church at the top of the hill is really cool.
Try at night. Extremely active with the paranormal!

Finally, somebody can say West Virginia is a beautiful state on TH-cam because I see all these, Tennessee, Florida, California, Nevada, and all these other places in the US but finally we can get appreciation on TH-cam
Harpers Ferry is gorgeous! The NPS even provides public transportation around town to make just about everything very easily accessible!

As a native West Virginian, I really appreciate this. I would argue the most beautiful area in my state (and arguably the east coast) is the Blackwater Falls/Seneca Rocks/Dolly Sods Wilderness area, which is near the towns Davis and Elkins. I've actually never been to Harper's Ferry or either of the panhandles in WV, but this video makes me really want to!

I live like 30 minutes from Harpers Ferry and it's amazing in every season but my favorite is probably spring and fall because of all the beautiful colors that surround the town
I just moved here a 1 year ago from Chicago all my life this area an WV I thought had be so boring but my rents love it here this made my day
I was born and raised in southern West Virginia. I moved away in ‘86 for 30 years but moved back a few years ago. The town I live in has so much poverty and the population has dwindled. There’s beautiful mountains here and some good people still. There’s very few jobs and not many businesses. There used to be so much more here. It’s no wonder so many people have moved away.

There’s a very short trek there to Jefferson Rock, which is an actual rock that Thomas Jefferson stood at as he took in the view down the Potomac. I actually went here with a couple friends for an extra credit opportunity for my US history class and we walked to the rock, the view is great!

I drive over the two rivers bridges from WV into V then Maryland at the Harpers Ferry confluence several times a week. Beautiful in the spring and fall.
I love living in West Virginia. It is truly one of the most beautiful states.
He forgot to mention it is also at the junction of three states.
Also, it is the site of two historic events. It is not only where John Brown led his failed slave insurrection, but it is also where Lewis and Clark started there famed journey to the Western frontier!

I loved going down to Harpers Ferry on school trips or just on the weekend for something to do. It is a very beautiful place and has awesome lil shops thur it❤❤❤
Used to be my favorite part of being a conductor on Csx. Going past Harpers Ferry was the best part of the trip.
West Virginia is a beautiful state. As a Canadian I like that it is a relatively easy drive, lots of outdoor things to do and some of the nicest people

I’ve been on vacations on the east coast from ocean city, otter banks, myrtle beach, Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, a cruise to Mexico, and Jamaica out of Miami, siesta key and Harpers ferry were my two Favorites. Harpers ferry I stayed in a damn koa log cabin without a bathroom and it was amazing. Camping at night, hiking on the trails, skipping rocks on the river. Probably one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I’ve ever been. Florida’s amazing too but idk something about the mountains and rapids were awesome. Maybe it’s cause I’ve been to the ocean so many times you kinda get used to it. But it’s hard to beat Florida in March when you live in Maryland and spent all winter cold af. Clear 90 degree water, it’s a trip feeling cold getting out of the water instead of getting in it. Miami had a rack of itchy sea grass. So I didn’t really enjoy swimming. But the top less women in g strings were cool. A little crazy for a 13yo walking around trying not to pitch a tent the whole time. I had to sit in the pool for 35 minutes once just waiting for it to chill. Lol.

Yea it’s nice the history is amazing, I just stumbled upon it after my main reason was to go to Charles Town race track , I’m glad I rent a car on vacation and try to get lost , this gem is what possible to find

My father built the KOA campground as a Civil War Museum in the early 1960's, I was a tour guide there - loved those summers of belonging to that town.

It is one of the most beautiful town anywhere for that matter I’ve been there myself. I’ve lived all over the country and have even been to places that was beautiful but dangerous like Afghanistan but for little town in America you can’t beat it.

I live 25 minutes from there been there so many times and it never gets old. Not something most get to see anymore not many places like this left tbh. I remember having to take field trips there as a kid and running off me and a couple of my friends and did our own thing away from the whole class we had our own thing we had planned and we brought a nice long rope with us. And wanted to go find a nice tree to tie it up to and go robe swinging and swimming so we did just that.. 😂 needless to say we didn't get to go on anymore field trips and got suspended a few days 😂 are rope swing is still there to this day. 25 years later we still go up there and mess around every blue moon.. Also you are pronouncing Potomac wrong, say the word like ur saying ick at the end not ack, not throwing shade just letting you, otherwise great video!

I live very close to Harper's Ferry and have been there several times. I can say that it is certainly an incredible thing to see and I highly recommend any tourists who pass by it to at least walk through the center of the town. If it is a sunday there's also a church that still remains intact from when it was constructed that you can visit as well. They also have several trails that any hiker would really enjoy.
