      This has nothing to do with the program which is on destroying Indonesia's forests for small amounts of electricity.
      Deforestation for palm oil has dramatically slowed in recent years. The plantations produce oil efficiently as you say- this issue is when you clear rainforests for them.

      For Indonesia to replace significant amounts of coal with biomass agricultural waste isn't enough. Indonesia's exporting the most usable waste (palm kernel shells) to Japan to burn in their power plants. Wouldn't it be better to keep that in Japan and not burn Indonesia's forests for energy?

Previously RH just burnt by rice farmer after crop season, but now it becomes expensive commodity and very difficult to get. With biomass we can reduce the use of fossil fuel more than 10 % and it promising to reduce until 50 % if the source are available. Indonesia has the right to manage its natural resources for its own interests. To be fair, the world's population should pay Indonesia, so that wild forests in Indonesia can continue to be maintained, because the world's population also get benefit from these forests for centuries. The irony is that these called "environmental warriors", still using petrol motorized vehicles for transportation, still use electricity supplied from the power plants they are protesting against instead of using their own solar or wind energy either in their offices or homes. They force other people to change their lifestyle quickly, but they themselves still don't change their lifestyle.But of course, on the other hand, all "environmental criminal" must be opposed and punished harshly.

    Spending $12 million on a 300 kW power plant is an exorbitantly high cost.
    For that amount, you could easily invest in a solar-plus-battery system, which costs about 18 cents per kWh or approximately Rp. 3000 at the current rate. Solar systems are generally easier to maintain than biomass power plants.
    However, considering the diesel power plant is already operational, it might not make sense to fix something that isn't broken. Instead of focusing on reducing the carbon footprint in these remote areas, targeting a 1% reduction in larger cities would have a significantly greater impact (1000x).
    Remote villages face more pressing issues, such as poverty. Encouraging NGOs or the government to donate gravity lights can provide continuous lighting for studying, which can gradually transform lives through education.

    9:40. It is impossible to use wood or anything else more valuable than coal to replace coal. The reason why Indonesia and other countries still use coal energy is because of the cost. The cost of using coal for energy is the cheapest, even when compared to water or solar energy. The truth is they use waste wood or waste from anything else that contains carbon. This way, the cost is cheaper and the supply is renewable.

    • @rubidot
      @rubidot 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Part of the reason coal is hard to replace is that the price is government regulated 15:23, whereas prices of other fuels are not. Coal is cheaper because the price is artificially reduced, while other fuels have to compete at market rates.

    Solar + battery is so cheap now and even getting cheaper day by day, it will be a much easier solution to install that. A 3MW solar costs about 2.5 million and requires 12 acres of land. In Indonesia on an average it will produce 12 Mwh of electricity everyday. A Tesla megapack which is 4 mwh costs only 1 million now. So if you install 2 of them then you get 8 mwh of storage. For a total cost of 4.5 million or say 5 million, you get 12,000 units everyday which can be used anytime. If you get 10 Starlink terminal for the island, you can get high speed internet without any wires for the island. The solar panels will work for 30 years and batteries will work for more than 20 years with no running costs and negligible maintenance cost. If they have some e-bikes and few EVs, they can be totally independent of the world. They can still grow bamboo and sell them by making some useful products. This solution is carbon negative and people can make money instead of burning bamboos. Burning bamboos will still produce toxic fumes besides CO2, like CO, NoX and other chemicals. I increasingly see carbon not as the enemy. I think most of our altered temperature / climate is due to land use, and not necessarily carbon. The urban heat island effect is real, and turning green plant cover into tilled soils or parking lots interrupts the water cycle and changes weather patterns as well as increasing temperature. Net carbon in the atmosphere will actually make plants greener. When you have a greenhouse, optimal growing conditions are 1600 ppm, and a lot of serious greenhousers add c02 to their system. The idea that carbon will mean the end of humans is wrong. But if we turn all of our land into tilled, dead soil and parking lots we will have severely disrupted weather patterns. Land use is much more important than carbon.

      It's a highly inefficient process of converting the sun's energy (through photosynthesis) to electricity. The extracted energy/kg of sugarcane is very small with this method, also means that you need a lot of land. The less step you can do to convert something to electricity, the better it is. That's why burning coal is still the cheapest way to get power since you simply pick up the fuel from the ground and burn it.

      @@hitthedeck4115 it's cheap but didn't align with the green propaganda those leader said. It's inefficient through solar photo but it's enough for house uses. It's just the law keep preventing ppl to install them not only didn't gives support also restricted them. Some even get lawsuit without proper announcement. Why subsidy electric vehicle if Isn't the basic energy supply ready yet? The bill said going to raise etc they said there's surplus blablabla.

      Bioethanol is actually less efficient, u have to do further processing (ie put more energy in). You lose some energy content in changing the form, you don't magically get higher energy.
