  • Stan Mikita reviews his career with TSN's Paul Romanuk. 1995 or 1996. Mikita developed the curved stick blade and made early improvements in helmets, advancing their level of comfort and their degree of protection. He also proposed curved blue lines. Yes, curved blue lines to allow the wingers to proceed the center into the offensive zone. Not a bad idea although linesmen might not like the difficulty in calling offsides.

I remember sneaking my sisters transistor radio into my bed and listening to Stan’s 500th goal. So long ago. Thanks for the memories Stan. RIP

I used to listen to the odd Black Hawk game that way back in the mid-late 1960s David! That was Sunday nights in Vancouver, BC!

I wish I would have saw him play in his prime. How does a 5'9" 170 lb center have a 22 year career and average 1.05 points per game in an era where scoring was still low and the game was still vicious? Underrated, will be even more so as time goes by.

JEAN BELIVEAU was 6'3", but maybe he SEEMED taller to Stan as a rookie centerman back then?

I HEAR TELL that Stan was not good with the public Hull called him a rascal for his surley demeanor , and usaed to kid Stan about his stand off ish manor .
He was my favorite player and I am somewhat glad that i never met him as a kid , that would have been a major disapppointment .
on a positive note ,,, people tat oooooh and awww about Gretzky m never saw Stan play ,,,Stan was the original Gretzky ,,, backwards passes to nowhere that wound up in the net .
Stan was te smoothest player i ever saw ... Gretzky must have found Stans videos and learned from them ... because everything Gretzky did .... Stan did 3o years earlier ... just ask HULL >

I met Stan briefly at a Black Hawk practice in the Pacific Mausoleum mid 1970s! He was smoking a fag while sharpening his skates! I was NOT impressed! Bobby Hull, on the other hand was very gracious and forthcoming, the 4 times I met him from 1970s onward! I still have a photo from 1978 at The Sheraton DT Vancouver, that has survived my many moves over the decades! Me, my GF, and Bobby drinking Olympia beer, bcuz there was a beer strike in BC that year. It's 45 years and counting.....
