Its similar to 'self-love' preaching, sometimes its rational to not love yourself. In a lot of cases its healthy, especially for younger men, because you haven't established yourself in the world yet. When it turns into self pity, then it can be a problem. Loved that jung quote aswell.

From india,(home of all sort of spiritual stuff), it’s way a wasteful practice, other than slight relief for people that are heavily stressed. The so called ‘spiritual’ and ‘non dual’ is as delusional as religion itself. I always feel that spirituality is a facade of control and a coping mechanism.
Edit: coming back and reading this i felt as if I’m kicking someone down, so let me make it lighter, spirituality too can be beneficial, as much as any other literature can. You can draw out good things from anything, just don’t give in and completely depend on a doctrine, thinking it will take care of you, which is what spirituality usually does to people. Coping can be helpful, but it shouldn’t be the entire life.

Change is possible man. I was in the same situation at your age. Take the time to understand what you're good at and what you can provide to the world. Maybe watch someone like Jordan Peterson

    • @-logic6654
      @-logic6654 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@richardb5730 Jordan is a stoic, which might not work out well for all. I really think people should ditch self-help idols, instead go by themselves and look at various cerebral stances different cultures have taken. True self-help can come from within, and with rigorous practice, people need a quick fix with some self help guru giving them all the answers, like all other quick fixes, there’s no depth to it. Practice and pressure testing is something that can’t be replaced.

I'm a pre-school/pre-kindergarten teacher, very active music and faith formation minister at church, and at 32, I'm still single and living with my parents (We care for each other, but, also, I'm Catholic and Filipina). But, really, when it comes to jobs and not being financially independent from parents, there are the variables of housing expenses, local cost of living, what your degree is in (if you're a millennial whose specialty is not in STEM, you're pretty much going to be hovering above poverty level by a few thousand dollars for a solid 3-5 years of your first real job, even with a Master's degree), take into consideration physical and mental health, and even the way you see yourself...etc...there's no quick fix, and shame and worry won't fix anything. I would suggest that you keep seeking the truth and keep looking for a job that you like. Also, both at home and at work, work hard, and surrender the rest to Jesus. Prayers for a full life for you, no matter how it looks like!

    Alan Watts:
    - smoked almost his whole life
    - had a drinking problem
    - 3 wives, never faithful to any of those
    - tried to justify his hedonism and life failure with spiritual bullcrap
Most of those gurus end up to be the worst predators of them all

I definitely went through the spiritual escapism phase in my mid 20s. It was only when I turned 28 that I started to acknowledge that spiritual escapism had resulted in pure stagnation in my life (not to mention a pretty serious pmo addiction). Now at 31, in spite of some really difficult times in these past few years, I have grown so much as a person and developed myself in the real world. I think as others have mentioned, the key is balance. My spirituality is still very important to me and if I neglect that part of me, I start to suffer. But equally, I'm very mindful of the need for balance and that the real world demands hard work, responsibility and discipline. I think it would be really cool to maybe have one of those group live chats where we could discuss the interplay between spirituality and the material world, and how to find that balance. Great vid bro

This is a lesson I learned about a month ago. For the past two years I used meditation and Buddhist/Hindu spirituality as an escape and as a way to “balance” wrong behaviors, even though it brought me peace, happiness and equanimity, for these past 2 years I have been stagnant in my degree, such that I will do the 3 year degree in 5 years (finish next year). I am 21 so I am glad my mentality changed early enough, and I will start working in a few days in a job where I can make 6 figures 3 years from now. So in 3 years I will have my computer science degree in the best university of my country, and could be making 6 figures. Knowing that I researched a LOT on spirituality and meditated formally for over 300 hours, I see myself being an enlightened wealthy person as a life goal

I think it's worth defining "spirituality" in a discussion like this. I've never taken it to mean these "hippie" things like meditating, crystals, calendar quotes. To me, your spirituality is the set of answers that only you can answer. So for example, a doctor will never be able to tell you what the meaning of life is, or how to achieve happiness / tranquility -- only you can provide a meaningful answer.
But that's just semantics. Everything you said is spot-on

Balancing spirituality and religion with my daily job has been tough. This spoke to me because despite my search for truth and understanding of our existence, I have to go back to my day job/school to survive. Coming away from my spiritual journey to focus on my job often leaves me with a false sense of guilt that I shouldn’t be working hard to pursue my dreams even though the job itself it may not align with me spiritually. I think there is something to be said about finding a balance and making sure our spiritual lives and material lives align. Bless you. Thank you.

People that are stuck in this spiritual loop of staying still don't really know where action is taking them + they usually have really low self esteem and self respekt. I hope this HIT HOME for some people - this is definitely something all people including me should keep in mind.

It's true that spirituality can be avoidance sometimes, but in my opinion a good practice would involve first letting go of the guilt you feel for avoiding responsibility, then letting go of the fear of facing/doing the thing you're avoiding and then surrendering any negative feelings that come up after you've done it. Avoidance IS resistance. It's refusal to surrender negative emotion. It's not that the practice of letting go won't bring happiness Luke. It's the way they do it, that causes them to suffer

Ye i agree. The Jung quote is great. Stay grounded but create your best identity at the same time. That IMO is surely the meaning of life after all. To be your best self. To follow the Line of Possibility as i call it. There is peaks and troughs along the way but the trajectory is always up... but only if you are learning from your lessons and trying to be your best self. If you learn you will always revert back to mean (the line of possibility). You can get ahead of yourself which could be thought of as a "big ego"(complacency) or you can live in escapism/despair and be below for your whole life sometimes(drugs/alchohol whatever it may be)... which equals not living your best life. Spirituality would have you think "everything is perfect, that is the way is was supposed to be", well maybe... who am i to say either way.
Do you think the Lord gave us life in a Material World to try and live in the Spiritual World constantly? Always comes back to balance. I think spirituality can be great to build awareness, but too much awareness can fuck you up hehe. Enjoy life when you are riding the line and have gratitude that everything is ok!

"Before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood, carry water." Many of us get caught up in the end results of what we're working toward or the way things will be when we finally achieve something. ... Achieving your version of "enlightenment" is not an endpoint in and of itself.

Even tho I can clearly understand the message, I think being spiritual has nothing to do with laying on the couch all day long in self pity or self destruction or just meditating for hours on end and believe in Disney fairy tails. Everything depends on you and your perception and you can use everything as means to en end, or vice versa. And you don’t have to follow just one way to live a life. You can combine what works for you: I’m currently deep into Joe Dispenza teachings and also a HUGE David Goggins fan and both are completely different people. And you can take the best from the both and apply to your life. To create the new meaning. To be spiritual doesn’t mean to love in poverty or living like a cave man (but if you enjoy it, it’s a different story of course). Wealth and spirituality go hand to hand and actually some of the richest people are quite spiritual.
I don’t think that Alan Watts f-d you up, it’s your perception of his message did. Which is fine, you still learned and can use that experience, Luke.
Saying all of that I appreciate your message and I understand that you want us to move forwards and work on ourselves and not just imagining stuff, so don’t take it as a criticism. Just wanted to clear that up. I love spirituality and science and I believe both can work magically if you’ll allow it too. Be the alchemist and have your foot on the ground. And never forget to dream.
    Much love Luke! 🙌🏽❤️
Oh and I think it’s important to define what is success for you too, first. Not for your mom and dad and all the others, but for you and you alone.

    Interesting conundrum.
I think there’s a spectrum from asceticism to addiction, and neither extreme is good.
Have to have good habits to succeed in life (healthy diet, sobriety, mindfulness) , and also have to work on letting go of attachment to materialism and addictive behaviors (porn and weed being addictive and damaging, and very hedonistic).

Stop looking for spirituality in things that are a dead end. Instead, seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit who will give you joy. Money, on the other hand, can come and go, and may bring temporary happiness, but not the same as joy. Joy is a deeper state of being that will pull you through any hard time. Joy is not dependent on a situation, whereas happiness depends on a situation. Let joy be what fills your soul through the Holy Spirit, which is the Spirit of Jesus Christ.

As Aristotle would say, we are humans, and so we must do human things. That means action in the material world, action in the sense of manifesting the intellect into the world. Because that's what human action is, it's our unique ability to use our intellect to guide our actions. The intellect is obviously a special thing about us, but that doesn't mean we should ignore our actions and only think and wonder about things. Alan Watts made a similar remark. In fact, contemplation and wonder are the things we do when we are relaxing from action. They are part of the fruits of action: we act or involve ourselves in the world in certain ways and then we are rewarded with the newfound ability to contemplate that (human) thing. You can read all you want about car maintenance, you're not a mechanic until you successfully apply that knowledge by fixing a real life busted up car. And it's the same for any type of knowledge. You're not living correctly until you move yourself and start living well. Even knowledge of good living is useless without action. And so the question of spirituality, of metaphysics, of esoteric stuff like that? What knowledge would any of that help you with? It certainly wouldn't help you live well, have good values, make good choices in alignment with those values, etc. It's just really interesting and has some other goal, and that's okay. To be balanced with the actions you take in your life

so true...but when you look deeper into life, you'll realize that no one really knows how to live..if someone is at home with mom and dad and they are all okay, then thats fine..In some cultures people lived with their parents forever. What im trying to say, is that whatever ur saying comes from your perception of life..success and money are all modern things created by a system to control you..so you are thinking from that perspective..theaz someone who is highly spiritual and is really happy to live with a minimum wage,,,ua message is nice, but i think people should live the life they'd like to live..nway, thanks for the advice but i also know that it is founded on your personal experiences, information you've read, and the time period you are born in...some ancient cultures valued spirituality more than material wealth and they built magnificient buildings, which we cant today...so let everybody be what they want to be

I'd have to disagree. I mean, of course it's important to have a job, make money, live healthy and put in the effort for your life. But don't worship money, don't worship your job and don't worship your body. Don't make them most important in life and don't place them above God. Why? Because the material place is finite. Your degree won't go with you to heaven/hell. Your bank account won't stay with you when you die. The only thing that is eternal is God, judgement and our afterlife. I'm not saying to not go for your dreams and reach the highest job, but don't make it your #1 focus because then you will loose focus on everything else in life. Don't seek fulfillment in earthly things. God always provides if you trust in Him and His son alone.
