Philippines faces economic challenges from falling birth rate and aging population

- Birth rates in the Philippines are falling and the government is concerned about the impact on the country's future. Only a decade earlier, it encouraged smaller families, but that policy seems to have been too successful.
An ageing population and high global demand for Filipino workers, means the authorities may have to develop new strategies.

As a Filipino, this is definitely good news. I've seen first hand the effects of having too many children to handle from my parents' generation. Younger people being mindful of giving good quality of life to future generations is a step to a better country. ❤

Falling birth rate? I think that is better at this point. It shows Filipinos are getting educated and conscious. Give free good education to those in "school age" and better compensation to workers right now. As for citizens in their 60s don't force them to retire if they can still work. They started retirement age to give way to younger employees, this time those who are in 60s can be consultants or give other tasks that is not physically demanding. 5-10 years from now those in school will work and those who are in their 20s will prolly start their own families.
The important things are free good education and access to healthcare. It is possible since we know the country is generating money just watch how much money government officials are allegedly corrupting - not millions but billions!

Good. That's a very good thing. The country is so crowded. Everyone goes to Metro Manila. If Philippines can't spread the richness and opportunities to all around their small country, this is so much better.
I’m from Hungary and there has been a pretty big influx of Filipino workers into our country recently after our government started giving out more visas. I would say that it’s pretty telling that there are so many of them working here despite the fact that we are a relatively unknown and small country with wages way below Western European standards. As far as I know from Filipinos, while our salaries are way higher than what they could earn in their country, they are aware that they could earn better in Western Europe. But there are already so many Filipinos working in Western European countries, and they are virtually spread everywhere around the world as long as those countries are at least a little bit better than the Philippines. A lot of these workers are way too overqualified for the jobs they do here, which tends to be assembly work at factories or agricultural seasonal work, with many holding college degrees. But they simply cannot land a job with them at home, as education is subpar and there is such a huge number of graduates with so much of the population being young that many fall out and become underemployed, being forced to work in low-level menial jobs even with college degrees. And low-level menial jobs at least make a lot more money anywhere in Europe than in the Philippines.
So I would say that at least that problem with the huge supply of labor and graduates will be solved with this, even if a falling birth rate has negative consequences.

As a newly hired government worker at the Department of Education, Every year the education Department revise their Curriculum in order to make the students compete globally in terms of educational standards which is already putting a strain on us, the teachers and students. And as a law student, i also noticed most newly graduates are starting to immediately take masters degree, Juris doctor, or Medicine just to give them a boost when it comes to being employed. almost everyone has an undergrad degree and a Board license to the point that their qualification is starting to be mundane. so others has no choice but to take any job just so they can provide and help with the household.
I can't believe that country depends on the money from foreigners and from adult content. even Bruno Mars is gambling.
@@stephanielim5544Let's be honest. Just because someone has all those qualifications doesn't mean they actually have what it takes when it comes to real world application. I've seen colleges hand out diplomas to students with tragic grades but they graduated anyway just because the school is trying to uphold its "numbers" and "reputation", athletes who read as slow as they run fast getting an automatic passing grade, lazy af teachers who have more absences than the laziest student, and how the education system itself teach Filipino students to be an obedient non-questioning worker (slave) intead of producing critical thinkers, innovators, pioneers etc. I've seen the sort of material my little nephews and nieces study in school. Finally...our population is declining!!!
Wait until you follow a similar path as Japan

@@davedave3520We will or won’t.
@@davedave3520 I hope Philippines follow a similar path as Japan. They get free education, free health care, old age pension, low crime rate, efficient transport, clean streets, stable electricity, clean water you can drink from the tap, etc., etc., etc.
Birth rate is declining not just in the PH. Even other countries like US, Japan, SK, and other EU countries, etc.
Good news for the Philippines.
Fantastic news, well done the Philippines
Thank you, Remy
They used to think that the poor working class would just continue to mindlessly multiply…. Jokes on them now we literally can’t afford children… what do they expect
Finally they learned their lesson ;)! I have a neighbor who keeps on having babies (there are 4 now), but don't have the resources to feed them. And the eldest who is of school age, couldn't even graduate from kindergarten; they had to send the kid home bcoz he couldn't keep anything in his head -- useless learning :O!
Finally some good news. ❤
We're overpopulated, so this is fine for a few decades.
And why are people talking about pensions? We don't have such a thing. I've never heard anyone talking about receiving any of it in a few decades already. If I ever became old and realized I failed to secure wealth that can sustain me, I'll just end things there instead of prolonging my sufferings and becoming a burden to others. I'll definitely die due to starvation and health issues anyway. So why prolong it?
I saw lots of old people, abandoned by their families, just die by the roadside. It will be my fate if I reach such age still poor.
quality not quantity
Outsiders like you guys don't really know what is truly happening in one's country. This is indeed good news, it's not a bad thing that birth rates have decreased. It is actually a good thing because there's just too much traffic due to prosperity. People have increased significantly, and so has their wealth. I don't think this will impact Filipino people like how it did to China, South Korea, and Japan. You do know that lower birth rates will not only improve traffic but also other things, like lowering the prices of daily necessities as it's about supply and demand. It will also decrease the risk of air pollution and many more, but you can't see it because you are not here.
You have a point there, Western people doesn't understand this because of too much democracy and wokeness instill in them

This is the greatest news I've heard for the Philippines 🇵🇭.
THAT'S GOOD NEWS! thanks, this is not immoral in anyway. We need to strengthen birth control to save resources
That is always my wish. Philippines is so left behind in terms of progress from its neighbouring countries. Ideally, our country's population should be at between 30 to 60 million.
Great to hear that actually.
Many countries have decreasing birth rates. While it looks good for an overpopulated country, long term it is concerning.
This is the one place on earth I did not expect this
@@cmsacademy1673 Really now? The Philippines is literally the most socially progressive nation in Asia. There are a LOT of socially progressive nerds and wokes here.

Most Filipinos will say "If you don't have children, who will take care of you when you're old?" So that means raising a child to be obligated to take care of your old age and be a burden? No thanks I'd rather die. Also why investing money to a child rather than saving money to travel around the world?
I personally think that this is beneficial to our country considering the high cost of living.
I'm 27 years old and I think I cannot sustain having a children. Especially most of us are paid just enough to survive.
There's an increase on teenage pregnancy though. The decline maybe on those young adults or mostly people working.
And the youngest one who got pregnant is 9😢
Somewhere in mindanao
Blud, teenage pregnancy has been like the norm for decades. In fact, teenage pregnancy is *declining*, with 2022 having a sharp decrease in the incidence of this issue.
There is no "increase on teenage pregnancy", just sensational media.
This!
True. And it's the lower class teens that are boinking like wabbits. The middle and upper class stay in school.
@@nunyabiznes33 I was once judged and misunderstood by a teen mom before just for being still single and a bachelor (even until now) during my late 20s,

and she added; "look at me, at a very young age (she's 17 that time when her child was 3), despite not being able to finish school, I'll will still see my children grow because I am still at a certain age by the time my children flourish "
Oh my.....I don't know what kind of mentality they are keeping with,
Very good kung ganun. Sana magpatuloy
I'm a Filipino and this is a very good news for us Filipinos how come this became an economic problem? Heck! fake news. We are populated here with no jobs, no homes. I'd prefer to live alone than to marry, settle down have kids and yet no food in our table.
A falling birthrate in this country is not a problem. in 5-10 years, families will still consist of at least 1 child.
Well you're just saying that we should only have a 'One child policy' like PROC does? Look at proc, their situations getting worse and worse, but my recommendations is it would be nice if it's two child smh like that.
@@dr.peanutsheesh6176 i think the birth rate statistics speak for themselves. for example. how many single moms have 2 or 3 kids? quite a few. but those classes are getting better understanding of just how challenging that lifestyle choice is (being optimistic), and certainly birth control should be a huge education factor to prevent unintended pregnancies but this is just one angle of a large issue.
No government couldn't force families to only have a single child nowadays, it's the nature and/or the country we in is too expensive to live in that made us reduce to a family with only a single child.
No, 1 is too few. China is now suffering the consequences of One Child Policy. IMHO ideal for high population countries is 2, so you are at least replacing yourselves. Even then there would a decline since not everyone would live to adulthood.
well, actually... thank God.

@@davedave3520oh pls stop chinese bot! Getting paid ₱1 per hour
@@davedave3520 I guess that's why the Philippine government is not doing its best to control the birth rate-because a higher birth rate means more slaves for the capitalists. Again and again, it's only for their gain. Are they going to fix the education system so that citizens will have the appropriate background for their work? Can they provide quality jobs for the overwhelming population, preventing them from leaving the country? Can they establish a good healthcare system that maximizes benefits, resulting in fewer sick citizens-because, as we know, healthy citizens mean productive workers? Or are we sticking to the plan where they leave the country for better jobs, only to become slaves to foreigners, some of whom get killed, by the way?

There’s something laughably good about the way they showed the “problem” of falling birth rate through the pov of proletarians, marginalized people and then show a big shot banker addressing the “problem”. If that was intentional, i’d say that’s good journalism right there
