Cube had & kept the block popping, transitioned us thru the riots, navigated the L.A. culture thru heated historical events (Ghetto-Bird) etc., it wasn't so much about displaying lyrical prowess as much as it was an accurate portrayal of "the boys in the hood's" sentiments on all the crazy societal oppression we were experiencing & being the voice for us that was expressing "Fucc this Shit" lyrically, articulately, beat-wise.... These are the things, those of us that lived it as it happened, that were the peers going thru it, herald about Cube! Nigga straight street Pioneer, hands down! Cube created the blueprint by his spontaneity of the time & ingenuity & genius took on the whole political scene of the LAPD and we as a 90's black culture rallied behind that man's raw courage to confront Massa, with black beanies & AK's!!!! Talk about Revolutionaries, you had to be there my nigga!!! Cali was a powder keg, period!!! He put NWA on the map, then burned the house down with them Niggaz in it, and then went after the white elite power structure & anybody else jacking for beats; everybody can get it!!! And once the smoke cleared, gave us (as a community) an opportunity to vent our PTSD with "Boys in the hood", Trespass, Friday, Barbershop, Are we there yet?, Higher Learning. These films were geared towards helping us process on another level of business ownership, community activism, family, enjoying life & laughing in the midst of all the challenges; how to redirect some of our frustrations with comedy. Cube's musical influence led a generation thru the thicket & set a different precedence for us. To me, Pac's music gave us a deeper consciousness of what we're doing & why we doing it and Standing up for ourselves & being dedicated to making a difference and being willing to ride or die for what's right & party and enjoy ourselves while we're doing it with flavor & finesse. I love em both, but Cube's work & influence had the greater impact in substantially (tangibly) representing, supporting, elevating & demonstrating to our community success. Cube definitely underrated. But with all the factors put in I think LL Cool J is even more underrated. He has one of the best cases as to being the greatest than anyone does. But most of these fans don't even know what LL did up until like his 5th album.

This is facts. Pac actually LIVED (and ultimately died) by what he rapped about.
Cube comes off as militant in his rhymes, but Pac in fact came from a Black Panther background and was absolutely fearless. There is NO other rapper, before or after, that shot two racist white cops (right here on American soil) to defend another black man. AND to top it off, he beat the charge.
I was 17 when this was all over the news and his street credibility was off the charts after that. Then it went up even more when he got shot at Quad. Back then being real was the measuring stick to how dope you were and Pac was that measuring stick that ALL rappers were judged by after both those events.
Anyone who says Pac was studio, just bring up the above incident and that will end the debate INSTANTLY. Nobody was saying that shit back then, this whole narrative you see now that Pac was a “studio thug” is revisionist garbage, mostly perpetuated by ignorant Gen Z’ers that weren’t even born at the time.
Another PAC urban legend: before he was famous, he confronted a group of like white guys that assaulted a Hispanic kid that was a friend of his friend (Ray Luv). Pac had zero fucks to give.

They sleep on Cube, you had to be there to appreciate Cube in context, these fools analyzing from 20-30years removed....
Y'all be having these discussions without cultural context of the times, that made these brothers viable!!! ...remember Gorillas in the Midst, played like a piano with King T, the collabs he did with his cousin...homosapien, and that dude album "gas, cash & ass" can't remember his name, but like Jamar said, these are the things that made those albums & body's of work Masterpieces!!! This nigga got Uncle Sam on a morgue slab.... Come on cuzz!!! This is at a time where politicians & presidents are trying to ban our cultural expression!!!! It was what this man did that gave Pac his lane... Cube spearheaded that whole movement like a MF'ing G, runaway train!!!! Muthaphuk you & yo God damn Ghetto bird!!! (Aahh-ahh, Aahh-ahh) (hood cry) That production & lyrical content is what typifies Cube's greatness! Natural born Killer???
I love Pac too but y'all smoking crack!!!!
From the gutter to brand ownership & yes I know Pac was on course for that too, but Cube was that trailblazer that Pac was following behind; Cube was that template & his body of work that comprised that template is second to none homie; hands down!
