  • This video shows the testing and review of a low cost thermocouple thermometer. Information is presented on the use of type J and type K thermocouples. A demonstration of a non-contact IR thermometer is also included.
    Here is a link to my previous video about thermocouples and how they actually work,

    This was so much more than just a Meter review. I didn't know that about the black vs. "shiny" aluminum. I appreciate your knowledge and wisdom sir, cool stuff indeed!

    Great! You CAN get Fluke accuracy for a reasonable price! I liked the bonus information, I learned 2-3 things I have always wondered about! Thanks so much!

    Thanks for your explanation. I learned the benefit of using black heatsink.

      Thanks for your comment. Infrared temperature measurement is just about useless.

    Awesome video, I see many chemistry oriented channels using the infared thermometers and I wonder how much inaccuracy they’re getting. It can’t be that accurate considering it’s often a transparent liquid in a glass reaction vessel being measured.

    Would the unit you tested work with a donut probe for testing temperature on a screen printing dryer?

    • @Jimscoolstuff
      @Jimscoolstuff  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry, I don't know what a donut probe is. The meter will work with any standard thermocouple; such as type J, type K etc.

    01:30 i'm sure you thought about the same in regard to the orange thing: It's just a hanger for the shop to hang it on a board and sell it

      I didn't think of that. Thank you for your comment.

    does this dual thermometer have a timer function? Some of the ads show a timer in a pic, but I haven't seen anyone use

    • @Jimscoolstuff
      @Jimscoolstuff  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, it automatically turns off after 5 minutes of use.

    • @dannythebeerman

      I meant like a stopwatch to monitor rise of temperature over a time period. when the screen turns on, it seems to have lcd's for a timer stopwatch, are you able to use in that manner?

    Can you buy longer thermocouples without affecting the measurement?

    • @Jimscoolstuff
      @Jimscoolstuff  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. You can buy a roll of thermocouple wire and make a thermocouple any length that you want. Type J thermocouple wire is easy to solder. Type K wire requires a flux for soldering aluminum.

    • @vincentpernicano3277
      @vincentpernicano3277 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jimscoolstuff huh okay ..so the resistance of the wire has no impact on the reading or accuracy of the measurement? Do they all have standard connectors…trying to buy this unit and extra connectors so I can make a number of thermocouples

    • @Jimscoolstuff
      @Jimscoolstuff  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vincentpernicano3277 You can buy connectors and connect them to the thermocouple wire. Black connectors for type J wire or yellow connectors for type K wire. This information is in my other thermocouple video listed in the description.

    Can this tool read temperatures above 1000 degrees Celsius?

    • @Jimscoolstuff
      @Jimscoolstuff  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The temperature is limited by the type of thermocouple that is used. A type K thermocouple can be used briefly for temperatures as high as 1200 Deg C. The thermocouple itself must be specially made for these high temperatures. They must be insulated with ceramic materials and sheathed in stainless steel, Inconel, or hasteloy.
