As we cruise the Norfolk Broads from Potter Heigham to St Benet's Abbey, we spot three narrowboats!
We stop off at St Benet's Abbey and explore it's history; take a tour around Filby Broad and village, and ponder the moorings along Thurne before looking at the boats for sale at Potter Heigham.

Thanks Marco.
Beaujtiful scenery,,,,have been down to Norfolk many times bird watching at Titchwell and such....and holidays at Wells Next The Sea.....
Glad you enjoyed it
Still here and wacthing Stay Safe
Great stuff! Let us know when you catch up! 👍
Some nice areas to visit.....
Lots to see and do on the Broads. You often need to do a bit of walking to get to villages but it all adds to the fun.
This was lovely, thank you 🛥⛵️
Glad you enjoyed it.
Loved the outtakes!
It's Jan laughing that gets me started and then....well, there's no stopping us. How we eventually managed to do the intro goodness only knows!
Well done you two.been on the broads 45 years, nice to see how you show people how nice it is.
Many thanks for your comment John. Image living in Norfolk and not loving The Broads...we'd be chased out of the County!
Jan & Tony.
I have a question for you since you have such knowledge of the broads. We want to live on a narrowboat. We don't think we can physically do the locks, so we are looking for alternative places to boat without locks. Are the broads an option we should consider? We have been boaters in the US for over 50 years. We are passionate about the water. Thank you!
Very informative, thank you for sharing this information, the Norfolk Broads are not an area I had considered to venture with our NB Bunnies Warren.
Thank you for commenting Dale. The Broads, sadly, aren't connected to the main canal network and in fact a waterways all of their own.
The only way 'in' is via Great Yarmouth which would include a sea trip. Alternatively, the narrowboats currently on The Broads were transported here. Happy Boating!
Just found your vlogs, thanks to Boat time, and loving your journey. Can I ask a stupid question though? If it’s hard to moor, where do you stop for the night? I’m particularly loving the north broads, and wouldn’t say no to one of those waterside cottages.
Hi Becky and welcome to our channel, hope you enjoy our journey ❤️
You can usually find somewhere to moor up even if it isn't in your preferred location.
We study the maps before we start so we know we have a Plan B (and very often a Plan C...just in case!)
That helter-skelter house is amazing
Would love to see inside it!
@@MakingNewMemories Me too. It'd make a fab house to live in....not just for the Summer.
Herbert Woods should get you to do a video tour of their cruisers for sale, like Rugby boats does for their canal boats. Would make it easier for prospective buyers to make a decision. Spent many happy holidays on the Broads, but trying to get a mooring in Hoveton/Wroxham was impossible last time. Too many private properties on the riverside with 'no mooring' signs. Even boatyards wouldn't let us moor in their yards. Unfortunately for that reason I won't be going back. Ian
Thanks for the suggestion Ian, email on it's way to HW!
We do love looking at the few narrow boat brokers like Rugby, who showcase their boats for sale on TH-cam.
As for moorings, the popular spots will always get full quicker. Just a little further on from Wroxham bridge opposite way we were going, there are some moorings.
You should definitely try the northern Broads, different feel altogether. Jan & Tony.
The moment i saw the opening scene i knew it was Potter Heigham.
Lovely place. Do miss Norfolk, especially The Broads.
@@MakingNewMemories Norfolk is vastly misunderstood and looked at as a flat boring place. But thst is far from true.
Would you both say you have made the right choice to become live abroads?
Great Video .. thanks for sharing...
I could tell you where all the pubs are ... been to most of them many many times... and i obviously have my favorites.
The Ferry House @ Surlingham on the southern broads is the best... take a drive there..?? you wont be disappointed.
Next year will be my 50th year of boating holidays on the Norfolk Broads, firstly with my parents and now i tend to hire 3 times a year... my dream is to one day own my own boat, maybe the same as you..?? when i retire....
Until then, ill have to make do with my next adventure... a new one to me... coming up soon... Christmas week on a boat
=o)
Thanks again
Thank you Neal, we like someone who knows where the pubs are!
Congratulations on your boating anniversary and Christmas and New Year is a lovely cosy time to be on the waterways. Have a great cruise!
Yes ,very good ,quite informative although you are from the 'dark side ' as far as I am concerned ,(canals ,ugh ) quite enjoyed it . Buy a proper boat and keep us up to date. All the best ,T!M
Thanks for the comment Terence as a 'dark lord' I'll take it as a compliment! 😆
Tony.
i don't know where you got your information from about Potter Heigham bridge as hire boats are allowed to go under with a pilot and as long as they fit even on a day boat
That maybe now, but at the time of filming we were told - and there were clear instructions, that we were not allowed to go under the bridge.
Do you mind me asking how old you are please
Have a look th-cam.com/video/mQy7a3UCPNM/w-d-xo.html
Might give you a clue...👍😉
