    As I reflect on this story, the driver was likely scared that he caused an accident so he quickly used whatever plausible story he could come up with. I will give him a pass this time. Hopefully he will see this and reach out for a beer and an apology. I believe in good karma and he needs it.

      I just ran into the driver of my Tuktuk at carrefour here in Diani. He came up to me asking if I remembered him. He looked familiar but I couldn't place him. He said he was my Tuktuk driver involved in the accident. He said that he now questions what happened. 😊
      He then stated that he was sorry but that it wasn't his fault😊. It's a start.

      I've been experiencing bliss so it was only a matter of time because I encountered some adversity. I'm fine and Cuse will heal in time. I've learned from the experience and I will do a few things differently next time. However, a small hiccup will not spoil all the good that's going on here.

    Sorry man, halfway in the video I wished I was there to assist. That mob didn't do right. Quick recovery to both of you, glad the situation resolved - the police should turn up sooner! Hoping they also won't "ask for something"

    Gosh, I’m so sorry you had to deal with not only the accident but all that aftermath. Where’s the empathy 😫 When I was hospitalised in Kenya and they realised I had insurance, they ran all kinds of unnecessary tests and services on it that my doctor friends later wondered about. Also avoided responsibility when they made a mistake that could have led to a necrosis of my hand.

    • @RichardDebs
      @RichardDebs  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I had a very friendly doctor so it worked out really well for me. Also, I'm a bit of a medical geek so I tend to know what to expect and only authorize what I deem appropriate as long as I'm conscious 😊

      Am really sorry for your experience in +245... in these Kenyan streets you need to find your own people or professionals that you trust and your always go to and life will be more simple for you. Even Kenyans themselves get ripped off it's not just expatriates.

    Hey Richard. So sorry for your accident. Am a local currently at the coast. Some of my worst experiences on the road here are due to the tuktuks. Not all of them are incompetent but most are. Unfortunately solving such cases is where the problem usually lies but am glad you and your dog are safe and sound.

    If you stood your ground like that, you're officially a Kenyan. The fee that the good samaritan asked is pretty standard for Kenyan locals. It's called 'ya macho,' meaning 'for the eyes.' They even ask other locals, but as a mzungu you pay a premium. Now we need to work on your negotiation skills to make sure you don't give more than you should for this. What old time wazungus do is throw in swahili phrases while negotiating, makes them think you know these steets

    Kenyans need to be educated on the importance of treating visitors well especially in tourist destinations where their bread and butter depends on tourism. they need to be educated on the reasons why tourists would want to visit a country bad experiences by tourists the less tourism the less jobs.

    • @RichardDebs
      @RichardDebs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm less disappointed by the driver because he was likely scared and therefore fabricated the story of being bitten. My issue is with the Tuktuk owners. They arrived on the scene late and showed no empathy for a passenger who was injured while riding in their Tuktuk. They likely had no insurance but yet wanted money from me. Again, there is no way that was going to happen but it was disappointing that they didn't seek to understand the situation.

    Sorry about what happened. It was scary just hearing about it. Great that you clearly had your wits about you, despite the situation, because it could have gotten much worse. Glad you and Cuse are ok.
    Great that you got your phone too. Your friend turned out to be a good 'investigator'.

      Cuse is my #1 priority so once I knew he was going to be ok, I was relieved.

      This was my first episode so there are a whole lot of what I would do differently if it happens again. However, this one wasn't too costly but I'll be ready next time.

    Try assess the riders before engaging them. If you find one that is trustworthy and offers good services, take their number and call them when in need of a ride.
    Otherwise, God bless you.
