as vernon said before, he considered himself as korean even tho he look more like western ( his mom is american while his dad is korean) He was born in New York and his family moved to Korea when he was 5. Since he grew and lived in south korea, He is a native korean speaker. It's funny because joshua is full blooded korean but he was born in Los Angeles, California and didnt know any single korean since english is the language they used.

This is why I love Vernon. It reminds me of when they did the MBTI a few years ago and one of the things about Vernon was “They know a lot but are good at pretending they don’t know.” (or something like that)
they've been together for a long time and its their trainee era i think its almost 10 years ago svt really have a beautiful and strong bond 🥺
They were together more than 10 years...thats why them so close each other like family...
vernon was born in new york but moved to korea when he was 5 or 6, so he actually considers himself more korean. he's fluent in english bc he spoke it at home with his mom growing up, but he's said before that his korean is better than his english (makes sense since all his schooling was in korean lol). but that's why he doesn't really show up in these kinds of clips
also the clips where they're really young in the room with green walls is from their predebut "show" called 17TV. i put show in quotes bc it was actually just a series of livestreams of the members practicing rather than a super produced thing, though sometimes they would also play games or do skits. it was meant to help build up their fanbase prior to debut and ran from 2013-2014. the members debuted young, so during their predebut they were naturally even younger. during 17TV the oldest trainees would have been around 18-19 years old while the youngest (samuel, who didn't end up debuting in svt) would have been 11-12 years old (dino being the youngest trainee to actually debut would have been 14-15). so yeah, they really were just kids back then

Out of the foreign members Vernon is the best at Korean because he’s lived in Korea from a young age. However all of them do well in Korean now. Sometimes they might not know what something is or means but it’s natural to be constantly learning new things even as a native speaker.
3:10 geol geol is just the sound of your laugh in korean, it's a detail that has already appear in a previous going seventeen episode, so it's like an inside joke.

8:17 Ah it’s because Vernon is a native Korean speaker😭😭😭… he grew up in Korea and grew up speaking Korean! He was only born in the states but moved to Korea when he was five or younger! He speaks English well because his mother spoke it at home as well

for me its the same my mother lauguage is Dutch but the other lauguage i know in english, korean, spanich, japanees, german and chinees and i always get all the lauguage mix with etch other

They were BABIES in some of this trainee era stuff it's so old, I couldn't just straight up watch it when I first became a carat because I was like... what is all this. But I do think some of the edits from the moments I've seen are super precious to me, although I still feel a little uncomfortable about how young they were on broadcast like that so much.
