A better time in Toronto/CNE history. When the 'big fair' still meant something and it had a relevant Canadian significance. You planned your summer around the CNE, with the concerts (bandshell and stadium), the amusement ride innovations, the Food Building new offerings and all of the new gadgets and products at the 'Better Living Building'. I remember August '83, well.
I was born way after this, watching videos of old Toronto and old Canada is like watching a completely different era and even a different country, even though it's only less than 40 years ago. Somewhere between then and now Toronto lost its charm, soul and general enjoyment

Use to go to the CNE every year back in the 80's and early 90's till 93 and went back a few times but not much now days since the whole city is not what it use to be so I try to stay far from it if I can
I was at the ex with my buddy John in '84 and it was fuckin' awesome...Toronto is shitty now, I get that obviously things change as time and technology advance but that doesn't always mean for the better, I remember when you could walk down Yonge street in the 80s and smell the food, people were more connected and more tribal if that makes any sense, there were specific cliques and styles and attitudes...now Yonge street is sanitized and all that remains of a once vibrant bustling street culture are just gelatinous globs of redundant protoplasm shuffling lifelessly down the street like apathetic slugs with phones attached to them...

Oh there was diversity but the right amount and the right kind. People all over wanted to fit in. They knew canadian culture first. Diversity is Canadas down fall but during that time everyone was given a Bible upon citizenship oath they didn't have to practice it but they just quietly accepted it. No one had a problem with canadian culture back then. Now we remove everything, change names etc
The past is cool, but stop glorifying it. Our present will be our past. If you want Toronto to be great, I think recently it is greater than ever as a global cultural powerhouse.

Back then you could get an apartment downtown for $320/mth, beer was $1.25 and there was live music bands in every bar, in addition to the venues.

Toronto was fantastic in the 60's and 70's I was born in 60' so growing up then was amazing. Not without it's troubles, but a much nicer world.
