    Wow....that much lather from just a small drop? I'm new to wet shaving, and I'll have to consider trying a cream.

    I just inherit my grandpa's safety razor, who died recently. When I was growing up as a kid I remember myself standing right next to him and watching the entire shaving process. Now thanks to your videos im able to continue this beautiful art. Greeting's from Costa Rica :)

    I purchased the Feather Popular due to this video when it was first posted. THE BEST PURCHASE I made in the world of wet shaving. I love this razor. Teamed with the Feather blade, you can't beat this. You can find this on Geo's site. This is my go-to razor. I'm going away for 6 weeks of travel and am taking this one. It's perfect for those new to DE razors. It's actually pretty solid for being 60% plastic. I just wish Feather would make more like these.

    I just ordered this as my first safety razor, glad to see it got your seal of approval. Tried shaving with a straight edge first, which I like but I think I may prefer the safety razor, as it doesn't need stropping/sharpening.

    Finally! Your videos have been a great help to me since I started with de razor wet shaving a little over a year ago. I bought this razor as it was the most moderately priced and immediately loved it, although I prefer Derby blades instead of the very sharp Feather blades. I also got the heavier Parker gunmetal razor, but still prefer the Feather razor! It is also better for me as I travel internationally and every ounce counts. Proraso is my go to for cream, and Arko stick for soap, applied directly to face to lather. Many thanks.

    Another great video! It's the deceptive ease and speed with which you skilfully shave that particularly impresses, I would say.

    If you're looking for something cheap and good I recommend cornhusker hand lotion. Put it on when your face is wet after showering and before you lather up. It's widely available in grocery stores too. I use it in the Winter months to keep my face moisturized and it makes for a great irritation free shave.

    Not Geo but with most lower end brushes it does happen. The hairs don't get properly placed in the knot. They could be a little shorter. It does tend to happen. My badger brush lost quiet a few to be honest but by no means it went bald. After about a week or 2 I haven't seen a single one come out

    Videos like this makes me want to shave, my beard is still a bit thin, only have a bit on my chin and small sideburns, but i was thinking about buying a Parker 22R, i really like the design and the gunmetal color, it also has the quick loading so i dont have to do the 3 piece disassembly.
    one problem though, im a guy that REALLY likes quality, so i always end up getting expensive stuff despite the fact that im poor and im still a bit too young to have a full-time job (only 18 and no education)

  • @SethStewart26
    @SethStewart26 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just made the switch to wet shaving with a Parker 96R, the Parker chrome brush that you use, and Proraso cream.
    I can only hope to shave as quickly and smoothly as you do.
    As of now a 3 pass shave takes me about 25 minutes.
    Hahaha.

    A good high quality cream and lather will leave a micro coating of lubrication on the skin, even when the bulk of it has been shaved away. Warm moisture helps too. I'm confident that if you felt his face after the first pass clears the lather, it would still feel slippery.
    Unfortunately, doing so might also elicit some awkward feelings between the two of you. Use caution with that maneuver! :-)

    Razor burn - probably too much pressure (only very light contact) but check lather isn't too wet - more slick/thicker is better with lather. Map your beard growth out to find which parts grow in which direction. I would go WTG, XTG and ATG with some touch ups needed ATG for a BSS.

    Geo, you're such an awesome guy. I've been wet shaving for years, but haven't ever purchased from you before. Now, after watching your videos, I'll be sure to buy from your store whenever I can. I just bought my wife a Feather Popular, but I bought it off of Amazon before I was aware of your TH-cam channel.
    The Feather Popular is listed as one of the most gentle/least aggressive DE razors you can get. Refer to: www.badgerandblade.com/forum/wiki/Modern_Double-Edged_Safety_Razors_Ranked_by_Aggressiveness when you are considering your razor purchase.
    As I said, I've been wet shaving for a very long time (I'll be 52 next month), and mostly prefer straight razor shaves. But when traveling or in a hurry, I use a DE. I MUCH prefer to have a very gentle razor (like the Feather Popular) with a VERY sharp blade (like the standard Feather blade) over an aggressive razor. I have tree stump whiskers and baby soft skin. The combination of a very gentle razor and ultra sharp blade gets me baby butt smooth every time.

    You should try olives oil, as a pre shave, is the cheapest and best thing for your skin ;-) After warming your face with a towel, put 3 drops at your finger, one for your left cheek, one for your right cheek and one for your neck. After that you can start lathering ;-) and it will be a very awesome shave... Just try.... Cheers Mark

    • @howcroft22
      @howcroft22 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also sometimes use olive oil, you can use any type of vegetable oil for a cheap pre shave. Most pre shave oils are just vegetable oil ,castor oil , and other essential oils for scent, they hype them up so they can jack up the price. A really good oil to use is grapseed oil, not only does it form a protective barrier and soften your beard. Its really good for acne so its perfect for pre shave oil.

    • @Mark_Ocain
      @Mark_Ocain 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A little castor oil is good as well. I don't know what it is about castor oil but it is very healing for the skin.

    Hey Geo! another great vid. Quick question, do you feel you could do another shave (3 passes) with the blade loaded into that razor after this 3 pass shave? Or would you just go with a fresh blade? I've been using Astra blades and testing to see how long they last and usually by the third pass of a second shave I am feeling like that blade is a lot rougher across my face. I have a feather blade loaded for my next shave and will test again but I wanted to hear your opinion!

    Another great video. The black feather is what I have on deck for days after a "bad shave", as I have super sensitive skin. w/ heavy multi directional growth patterns. Its super smooth, and just aggressive enough to shave bbs, but not reirritate my skin. Great for beginners, and advanced users imo.... Is that a kent blk-4 brush? Ive been using my Kent blk-12 for past few months now and love it. Just wondering. Like Geo said, it really is a GREAT entry level razor as welll, for cheap 2!! Thanx

  • @ericramsey3337
    @ericramsey3337 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey man not ripping you on the shave or the video but your sideburns are not even. Use your index fingers to the length of the first side and then start shaving at the new markers to start the second side. Your ear, as well as we all, are not evenly placed on your head and everyone has one higher than the other. Using your fingers allows for a better level visual. Also if you tilt your head up remember to overcorrect the opposite direction when you cut to maintain a straight line. Tilting your head up and back stretches the skin and when your head returns to a natural level that pull will have caused a tilt in your shave. Great video otherwise. Just one of the pet peeves of an old Stylist. 2 things always check your haircut especially with a second mirror to make sure your neck line is even and use your fingers to check your sideburns!

    You didn't get any cuts at all? I get cuts and irritated skin when I shave against the grain. It's so annoying, but I'm 20 years old and I don't have a full beard growth yet. It's thin and uneven, and I have many bald spots. Do you think that's the reason? I use a safety razor and I use coconut oil and shaving soap. I shave with the grain first, but I go against the grain on the second pass because I like my skin to be smooth as possible. Anyway, I enjoyed watching your video. :)

    • @demoneyeslaharl
      @demoneyeslaharl 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Christer Endrè Pedersen You can do across the grain for the third pass, but in the opposite direction. For example, during the second pass, you go from ear to nose, the third pass you go nose to ear. You may also need a mild razor, like the feather popular that he uses in this video, and a blade that focuses on smoothness. The blade is probably the harder thing to look for because there are so many. I would suggest Personna Israel blades. The coating if has makes it quite smooth for me.

  • @fallofdutee
    @fallofdutee 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Feather Popular would be a good cheap razor to start with to find if it suits and to learn technique with. For an all-metal razor the usual recommendations are closed bar razors such as the DE89/R89 (same head) which are quite mild. Check out shaving forums for advice there too. You will also need blades too and a blade sample pack is a good way to go. My opinion would be to try Astra SP/Gillette Green super stainless to start with. Then move to sharpedge and eventually feather!

      This (popular) razor is a nice lightweight razor. You will find the Parker 99R to be heavier, heftier, and more aggressive shaving.

    I do not know how you shave that fast with a feather blade. I have to use them carefully if I don't want to end up blooding out.

    @geofatboy If you go the Cro-Magnon route, I'm guessing you will need the straight-razor to shave it off in the Spring? In other words, are straight razors better on full beards than DE's?

    Hey Quick question! What's the difference between open comb and closed comb? I have a beard but like to clean up my lines a bit which means I only shave a little bit of the neck and some of my upper cheeks. I want to get the Merkur bakelite I saw you use or the sledgehammer, which would you recommend? Thanks!
